AB - This paper addresses the problem of time difference of arrival (TDOA) based passive target localizationand proposes an improved chaos-driven hybrid differential evolution (DE) algorithm and butterfly optimization algorithm (BOA), named ICDEBOA, to solve this complex optimization problem. The proposed algorithm consists of a new mutation strategy with the mechanisms of the BOA algorithm incorporated into the DE algorithm. To boost optimization effectiveness, chaos theory is employed to adjust the control parameter values. The considered localization problem is formulated using the maximum likelihood estimator. To perform the accuracy comparison, the convex constrained weighting least squares algorithm is applied to the considered localization problem as the widely used method in literature. The statistical analysis shows that the proposed modifications to the ICDEBOA algorithm improve its optimization performance, as demonstrated by the improved performance on the CEC2014 benchmark problems. The ICDEBOA algorithm is also shown to be more robust than existing algorithms in noisy environments. Numerical simulation results show that the proposed ICDEBOA algorithm meets the CRLB and achieves better performance than the CWLS, DE, and BOA algorithms.

AB - The multi-objective optimization (MOO) of a planetary gearbox is a challenging optimization problem, which includes simultaneous minimization of a number of conflicting objectives including gearbox volume, contact ratio, power loss, etc., and at the same time satisfying a number of complex constraints. This paper addresses this complex problem by proposing a modified hybrid algorithm, named Multi-objective Hybrid Butterfly Optimization and Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm (HMOBPSO), which integrates PSO and Particle Swarm Optimization (BOA) algorithms with the aim to improve the performance with respect to the considered problem. The proposed approach solves the non-convex Pareto set and provides vital insights for lowering gear weight and efficiency and avoiding early failure. The experimental analysis employs numerical simulations to determine the Pareto optimal solutions to the formulated MOO problem. The results show that the proposed method offers significant improvements in terms of gearbox size, efficiency, and spacing compared to the conventional methods. In addition, an assessment of the optimization performance of the proposed HMOBPSO algorithm has been conducted by comparing it to other established algorithms across several ZDT and DTLZ benchmark problems, where it demonstrated its effectiveness.

AB - In this paper, we have considered tip interference and radial interference of internal involute spur gears. Equations of tooth profiles are provided and operating constraints for internal gears are defined. The undercutting and interference of the teeth profiles are the main problems for the practical application of internal gears in planetary gear trains, which requires particular attention in the design of planetary gear trains. The problem of avoiding interference of internal involute spur gears is especially challenging. Therefore, it is necessary to create the corresponding geometric models and express the above requirements by the corresponding functional constraints to verify the engagement condition. The developed geometrical model of the tooth surfaces is most helpful in the analysis of meshing interference, contact, and stress analyzing, manufacturing, measuring, and optimizing internal gear sets. The numerical results are tested by computerized simulation of the meshing of internal involute spur gears.

AB - This paper considers the problem of formulating the non-linear optimization model for determining the optimal parameters of planetary gearbox, which is solved using a metaheuristic optimization algorithm. To determine the optimal parameters of the planetary gearbox it is necessary to formulate complex objective functions and minimize them, which is often a conflicting problem. To solve this complex optimization problem, in this paper we propose to employ metaheuristic algorithms, which characterize pseudo-randomness and the ability to find the global optimal solution to the multimodal optimization problems. The proposed metaheuristic method is based on the Genetic Algorithm (GA) which is hybridized with the local-search Nelder-Mead method. For the considered optimization problem, the appropriate software is implemented in the MATLAB software package, to verify the results. Inside the considered optimization module, we have defined the appropriate objective functions and constraints which determine the construction of the planetary gearbox. The optimal parameters of the planetary gearbox obtained using the proposed metaheuristic algorithm are compared with the results obtained using several well-known algorithms in the literature. The simulation results of the proposed optimization method indicate a significant improvement in planetary gearbox performance compared to the parameters obtained with well-known algorithms.

AB - Accurate localization of target based on time difference of arrival (TDOA) measurements is of crucial importance in a large number of different military and civil applications, especially in security systems, radars, sonars etc. This paper focuses on the determining the position of a target from a set of TDOA measurements obtained on several receivers whose positions are known. The considered target localization problem is formulated as the optimization problem, where the corresponding objective function is obtained based on least squares (LS) method. Due to the complexity of the considered problem, the resulting objective function is highly nonlinear and multimodal. Therefore, to solve this complex optimization problem this paper proposes the hybridization of Genetic Algorithm (GA) with well-known Gauss-Newton (GN) method. The performance of considered hybrid algorithm is investigated and compared to well-known conventional optimization algorithms in solving the considered TDOA based localization problem. The simulation results of the proposed optimization method indicate a significant improvement in localization accuracy compared to well-known algorithms.

AB - This paper considers the problem of finding the position of a passive target using noisy time difference of arrival (TDOA) measurements, obtained from multiple transmitters and a single receiver. The maximum likelihood (ML) estimator’s objective function is extremely nonlinear and non-convex, making it impossible to use traditional optimization techniques. In this regard, this paper proposes the chaos-enhanced adaptive hybrid butterfly particle swarm optimization algorithm, named CAHBPSO, as the hybridization of butterfly optimization (BOA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithms, to estimate passive target position. In the proposed algorithm, an adaptive strategy is employed to update the sensory fragrance of BOA algorithm, and chaos theory is incorporated into the inertia weight of PSO algorithm. Furthermore, an adaptive switch probability is employed to combine global and local search phases of BOA with the PSO algorithm. Additionally, the semidefinite programming is employed to convert the considered problem into a convex one. The statistical comparison on CEC2014 benchmark problems shows that the proposed algorithm provides a better performance compared to well-known algorithms. The CAHBPSO method surpasses the BOA, PSO and semidefinite programming (SDP) algorithms for a broad spectrum of noise, according to simulation findings, and achieves the Cramer–Rao lower bound (CRLB).

The CAHBPSO method surpasses the BOA, PSO and semidefinite programming (SDP) algorithms for a broad spectrum of noise, according to simulation findings, and achieves the Cramer–Rao lower bound (CRLB).",

AB - Stackers are one of the vital parts of the system that work on the exploitation of coal in open-pit mines. During their exploitation life, they are exposed to hard working conditions in which dynamic and stochastic loads act on them. Therefore, the analysis of their dynamic behavior is necessary in order to prevent failures and ensure a longer working life. Given that the structure of the stackers is a dominantly spatial truss structure, the paper presents the procedure of forming a spatial reduced dynamic model of the stacker superstructure and analysis of the influence of the eccentricity of the discharge boom tension pulley created during the production process. The results are given through the displacements and accelerations of the referent points of the structure. The quantification of the eccentricity influence from the aspect of the dynamic behaviour of the machine is presented and discussed.

AB - This paper presents a new optimisation method for PID controller cascaded with a lead-lag compensator (PIDC). Parameters of the controller are obtained by solving the constrained optimisation problem. We propose two variants of the optimality criterion. The first one is defined through the max-min optimisation problem wherein objective function is the amplitude frequency response of the PIDC controller. The second one is based on an effective approximation of the minimum value of the amplitude frequency response of the PIDC controller. Consequently, we obtain a computationally less expensive problem. Both variants of optimality criterion result in efficient load disturbance and noise rejection, while robustness is ensured by constraining the value of the maximum sensitivity Ms. Good reference shaping is supported with proper constraints based on the Amplitude Optimum (AO) principle. Numerous batches of processes typically encountered in the industry are used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design method.

AB - Planetary gearboxes have a wide application in the field of transformation and transmission of power from the drive to the working machine, due to the compact structure, high reliability and efficiency. Due to the increasingly stringent performance requirements, which planetary gearboxes must satisfy, the research in this dissertation is focused on the problem of multi-objective non-linear optimization of planetary gearbox based on hybrid metaheuristic algorithm, which satisfies a number of strict requirements, such as: compact construction, minimization of power loss, load distribution and reliability in different operating conditions. In this work the formulations of the objective functions for the considered multiobjective optimization problem of planetary gearbox have been outlined along with the appropriate constraints. The formulated constraints have been analyzed and appropriate domains of practical applications of internal and external gear pairs have been formulated, with the aim to ensure proper working, mounting and meshing of considered gears. Furthermore, the theoretical formulation and numerical procedure for the calculation of the planetary gearbox power efficiency has been developed in this work. However, the objective functions and developed constraints of the considered Multiobjective planetary gearbox optimization problem are nonlinear and multimodal functions, and therefore the global optimal solution cannot be obtained using the conventional optimization methods. Therefore, in order to solve this multiobjective and complex optimization problem, the research in this dissertation is focused on metaheuristic optimization algorithms, which belong to the group of evolutionary algorithms, including: differential evolution algorithm and genetic algorithm, as well as the algorithms inspired by the biological systems, such as particle swarm optimization algorithm. To overcome difficulties in solving complex optimization problems, in this thesis the considered algorithms are modified with the development of adaptive techniques for setting the values of control parameters and hybridization of algorithms. In order to create an effective hybrid algorithm, the hybridization process has been preceded by extensive numerical simulations and statistical analysis of advantages and disadvantages of each algorithm. Therefore, the proposed hybridization of algorithms and introduction of adaptive control parameters can successfully combine the advantages and avoid disadvantages of each algorithm. In this way, the proposed modifications successfully combine the advantages of each algorithm and avoid their disadvantages, thus significantly expanding the scale of implementation of the proposed algorithms for complex optimization problems...

AB - Most widespread materials in Additive Manufacturing are PLA (PolyLactic Acid) and ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), which are dissimilar materials in terms of printing abilities and mechanical properties. PLA material originates from renewable resources making it better solution for environment in comparison with petroleum-based ABS material. Addition of second-phase particles to polymer matrix may have a substantial influence on mechanical properties of created material. Subject of this paper are natural PLA material and advanced PLA material with addition of second-phase particles (''PLA-X'') which has similar mechanical properties as ABS material, making it a perfect PLA based substitute. Tensile tests are conducted according to ISO 527-2 standard. Subject of this paper is the analysis of fracture behaviour of PLA and advanced PLA-X material, which ranges from brittle to formation of large craze zones before fracture. Analysis is conducted for five batches of both materials, with variation in printing parameters. The main focus of this research was to evaluate the influence of second-phase particles on fracture behaviour of PLA and advanced PLA-X material.

AB - The problem considered in this paper is the welding technology of the steel assembly of a firefighter truck rear bridge semi-housing. Since in this procedure the welding is done of the two dissimilar steels, it is necessary to analyze effects of welding on mechanical properties and microstructure of individual joint's zones. The weldability of the base metal was considered first (semi-housing tube and flange), then the welding method and the filler metal were selected and, finally, the technological parameters of welding were calculated. The computational and experimental methods were used for the base metal weldability estimate, based on the hardness measurements in the joint's critical zones and analysis of their structures. Experimental investigations performed were aimed for verification and/or eventual correction of the proposed welding technology.

AB - The aim of this research work is investigations of absorption characteristics of a circular seamless tube collision absorber filled by rigid polyurethane (PU) foam under axial load. Shrinking of circular tube passing through cone bushing starts after absorber is activated at the moment of collision. The energy absorption realises in three ways: elastic-plastic deformation of the tube wall, friction between absorption elements and compression the rigid PU foam inside the tube. Using rigid PU foam, as the seamless tube filler, in the process of collision energy absorption increases absorption power in comparing to with only empty tube, as well as gives gradual increases of deformation resistance during deformation process. Experimental research was prepared and realized in the laboratory using the scaled samples. The effect of rigid PU foam, configuration of absorber filled by PU foam on the absorption power and manufacturing technology of the samples, are considered and discussed in this paper. The results indicate that the shrinking foam filled tube absorber has for about 18% bigger absorption power than the empty one. Formation of numerical model and numerical analyses of shrinking foam filled tube absorber were realized using ANSYS software package. Force vs. stroke (F(s)) diagrams obtained by tests and numerical analyses are in a good correlation which confirms formed numerical model as a suitable for further quasi-static analyses and for dimensioning the similar types of absorber.

AB - Recently, calculus of general order alpha is an element of R has attracted attention in scientific literature, where fractional operators are often used for control issues and the modeling of the dynamics of complex systems. In this work, some attention will be devoted to the problem of viscous friction in robotic joints. The calculus of general order and the calculus of variations are utilized for the modeling of viscous friction which is extended to the fractional derivative of the angular displacement. In addition, to solve the output tracking problem of a robotic manipulator with three DOFs with revolute joints in the presence of model uncertainties, robust advanced iterative learning control (AILC) is introduced. First, a feedback linearization procedure of a nonlinear robotic system is applied. Then, the proposed intelligent feedforward-feedback AILC algorithm is introduced. The convergence of the proposed AILC scheme is established in the time domain in detail. Finally, simulations on the given robotic arm system confirm the effectiveness of the robust AILC method.

AB - Modern home windows include new approaches in their design and new material utilization to achieve best
resistance to harsh weather conditions and to achieve best possible thermal insulation. Chosen internal
structure of window frame and selected material affect on structural life. Integrity assessment of home window
frames covers experimental and numerical approaches, including experimental DIC method (Digital Image
Correlation-DIC) and FEA (Finite Element Analysis) numerical method. The aim of this research is to find the
matching between both techniques and to use only numerical method in future to assess the structural life of
home window frames with different internal structures in the design and different materials. Experimental
testing is performed on the Universal tensile testing machine ‘’Shimadzu AGS-X’’ with 100kN load capacity,
which is sufficient for home window frame testing. DIC cameras are used for recording of the experimental
technique and the output are displacements and deformations on observed structure. FEA simulation accepts
the before experimental conditions, i.e. maximal load, material characteristics and geometry. Matching of
experimental results and attained FEA simulation will allow for easier Integrity assessment using only
numerical simulations for future tests. Therefore, with mentioned technique new internal structures of windows
and different materials can be simulated and the obtained results will show if the chosen home window frame
structure and material selection is sufficient enough for practical use.

AB - In this paper, the coupled axial-bending vibration of planar serial frame structures composed of rigid bodies and Euler-Bernoulli beam segments is considered. The corresponding mode orthogonality conditions for this kind of structures are derived. It is assumed that the mass centers of rigid bodies have both the transverse and the axial eccentricity with respect to beam neutral axes and that the mass centers are located in the plane in which the rigid bodies perform planar motion. The system responses to initial excitation in the case of distinct as well as repeated natural frequencies are considered. Theoretical considerations are accompanied by four numerical examples.

AB - Tie-rods of the bucket wheel and counterweight booms are vital parts of the bucket wheel excavator slewing superstructure. This paper is dedicated to the problem of identifying the stress state of the critical cross-section ('net section') of the eye plates on these tie-rods. It presents the results of the experimental and numerical investigations carried out on the eyebar model. The results show the appearance of a plastic deformation in the zone near the contour of the hole even when the eye is subjected to the loads within the range of the permissible loads prescribed by the standard DIN 22261-2. Plastification in the eye net section occurs across the full thickness of the plate, but it does not jeopardize the integrity of the structure. The stress value in the eye net section, calculated in accordance with the standard DIN 22261-2, is significantly lower than the actual stress values around the hole and serves only as a comparative value for the static strength proof for the eye.

AB - Development of 3D printing in medical and dental applications has advanced significantly in recent years. 3D
technologies are commercially available, i.e. 3D printing and 3D scanning, allowing dentists to easily scan and
record state of hard and soft tissues following 3D printing of dental models or supporting structures-like surgical
guides and aligners. Thereafter, dental technicians work with these 3D printed dental models of upper and
lower jaw, as they previously have been working with plaster models, and because of attainable high
dimensional accuracy of these dental models 3D printing technology found its way in dentistry and will improve
both in today’s application and will expand the range of possible applications in dentistry.
The aim of this paper is to present stereolithography (SLA) 3D printing technology of dental working models.
SLA technology is mainly applied in rapid prototyping, but due to exceptional dimensional accuracy it easily
found its application in dentistry, where accuracy is of utmost importance. SLA technology works in layer-bylayer
manner, using UV lasers to polymerize, i.e. solidify, liquid photopolymer resin placed in a vat. Only
accuracy issue of this technology occurs when using more layers to build a model, i.e. if an error appears at a
certain layer it will stack on succeeding layers and will create notable dimensional mismatch. Materials used
in this research are grey standard resin, dental model resin, long-term biocompatible clear resin and
biocompatible photopolymer resin. Created dental models are used for planning and making dental crowns
and bridges.

AB - Manufacturing of railway vehicles require use of many different special support tools which have a role to simplify production process and to increase productivity. Beside, design of these elements requires a special care about worker safety. Subject of this paper is static strength analysis of the mobile lifting platform designed for railway industry. This type of mobile platform is used for worker outside of the wagon body and can provide operation up to 4000 mm. Platform was designed from steel tubes, square and circular cross section joined by welding and moving joints. Hydraulic cylinder, with adequate and controlled initial force, is used for platform lifting and lowering platform. Static strength analysis was done using finite element method by SolidWorks software package. Bearing in mind very complex construction of mobile platform, simplification of numerical model was done. Platform structure was divided in three subassemblies: working platform, folding scissors and lower chassis, and for each of them numerical analyses were performed. In accordance with purchaser requests loads were applied on the working platform, while the reaction force was measured at constraints located on the lower chassis and at the joint between the piston of hydraulic cylinder and scissors structure. Next to primary analysis of the main platform structure, static strength analyses were carried out for fences and stairs. All analyses were accomplished in accordance to valid standards. Obtained results showed that the assemblies of mobile platform, including fences and stairs, are able to withstand load of workers and required equipment without permanent deformation.

AB - This paper contains results of tests performed in order to determine mechanical properties
of steel P460NL1, used as filler material during the execution of welded joints. Arc welding
of samples from which the specimens were taken was carried out through the application of welding process 111, because it is one of the processes for the execution of pipelines for pressure equipment. Microspecimens with diameter of 1,5 mm were tested in order to determine tensile properties of material taken from the heat-affected zone and weld metal, while specimens with diameter of 6 mm were tested in order to determine tensile properties of parent material. Standard Charpy V-notch specimens were used in order to determine impact energy. Results of metallographic tests which refer to the structure of a pipe welded joint are also presented.

AB - Surface mining systems (SMSs) are among the most significant 20th century achievements in mining industry, whose significance to miners is comparable to the invention of dynamite in the 19th century. However, problems of SMS risk assessment are very scarce in relevant literature. For this reason, this paper aims to establish a consistent risk quantification approach for bucket wheel excavators (BWEs), the backbones of these systems. Based on the original structural scheme of a BWE, the risk parameters assessing criteria stemming from multidecadal experience and the database of recorded standstills (in the considered case, one hour of SMS downtime generates indirect financial losses of approximate to 15000(sic)), a study was conducted applying the Service FMECA technique to the BWE SRs2000 (one of the best-selling models from "Takraf"), with the following conclusions: (a) the material conveying subsystem is the highest contributor in the total number of mechanical and electrical failures, as well as in total downtime; (b) during the monitoring period, there were no extreme risk level failures. Besides, corrective actions for reducing risk levels of the most critical mechanical and electrical failure modes are given in the paper. The presented approach for risk quantification for a BWE can be successfully applied to other SMS subsystems, notably spreaders.
