AB  - The effect of the shielding gas arc welding process on the cavitation resistance of the three-component aluminum alloy AlMg4.5Mn and its welded joints was investigated. Welding was performed using the GTAW and GMAW processes in a shielded atmosphere of pure argon. After the welding, metallographic tests were performed, and the hardness distribution in the welded joints was determined. The ultrasonic vibration method was used to evaluate the base metal’s and weld metal’s resistance to cavitation. The change in mass was monitored to determine the cavitation rates. The morphology of the surface damage of the base metal and weld metal due to cavitation was monitored using scanning electron microscopy to explain the effect of the shielding gas arc welding process on their resistance to cavitation. © 2023 by the authors.

Fracture Behavior of AlMg4.5Mn Weld Metal at Different Temperatures under Impact Loading

AB  - This paper deals with a three-component aluminum alloy AlMg4.5Mn that was welded using a GTAW process in the shielded atmosphere of Ar+70%He+0.015%N2. The weld-metal toughness was evaluated at three different temperatures using instrumental Charpy pendulum impact testing to measure not only the total energy, but also the crack initiation energy and the crack growth energy. Fractographic analysis of the fracture surfaces and EDS analysis of large second-phase particles on fractured surfaces at each temperature were also carried out. Fractographic analysis at different temperatures indicated a clearly distinguishable fracture mechanism. It was inferred that the absorbed energy was closely correlated with the fracturing of surfaces. Moreover, it was concluded that with decrease in the amount of microscopic voids and dimples, the total energy absorbed also decreased.

Ovaj udžbenik je namenjen studentima koji slušaju predmet Mašinski materijali
1, na osnovnim akademskim studijama u drugom semestru sa fondom časova 1+1,
a napisan je prema nastavnom planu i programu. Osnovna namena ovog udžbenika
je da pomogne studentima u savladavanju osnovnih znanja iz nauke o materija-
lima, koja su im potrebna u toku daljeg studiranja. Pred autorima je bilo velikih
dilema kako, da na jasan način izlože veoma komplikovanu i raznovrsnu materiju,
imajući u vidu da prethodno stečeno srednjoškolsko znanje studenata, iz fizike i
hemije, nije ujednačeno.
Nakon uvodnih razmatranja o istorijskom razvoju i podeli materijala, prelazi se
na strukturu atoma i veze između atoma, kao i na kristalnu strukturu materijala
i greške u kristalnoj strukturi. Objašnjen je mehanizam difuzije u čvrstom
stanju, mehanička svojstva materijala, kao i oštećenja i vrste lomova u materijalima.
Takođe je razmatrana teorija legura i osnovne vrste dvokomponentnih dijagrama
stanja. Nastavnim planom i programom je predviđeno da se osim metalnih
materijala razmatraju, u manjoj meri, polimeri, keramike i kompozitni materijali.
Imajući u vidu stalni razvoj materijala kao i pojavu novih inženjerskih materijala,
svakako se vodilo računa da se i njima posveti odgovarajuća pažnja.
Na kraju knjige navedena je i literatura koja može da se koristi u cilju proširenja
znanja iz oblasti nauke o materijalima.
Tokom pisanja ove knjige ideja je bila da se materija izloži u što jasnijem, a donekle,
i popularnom stilu da bi bila dostupna i razumljiva studentima sa manjim obimom
predznanja iz ove oblasti. Zbog toga, strogo se vodilo računa da se, gde god je to
moguće, reči zamene dobrom slikom ili dijagramom.
Ukoliko uspešno savladaju ovo gradivo studenti mogu biti sigurni da će imati solidnu
osnovu za savladavanje gradiva iz određenih predmeta tokom studiranja, kao i da
će u praksi primeniti stečeno znanje.
Autori se zahvaljuju recenzentima i kolegama na korisnim primedbama i sugestijama.
Posebno se zahvaljujemo profesorima dr Veri Šijački Žeravčić i dr Nenadu
Radoviću koji su svojim korisnim predlozima i sugestijama doprineli poboljšanju
kvaliteta knjige. Takođe se zahvaljujemo dr Draganu Cvetkoviću za pruženu moralnu
podršku i nesebičnu pomoć pri tehničkoj obradi.

Predmeti koji nas okružuju izrađeni su od različitih vrsta materijala, pa je poznavanje njihovih
osobina, načina proizvodnje, postojanosti u radnom okruženju, mogućnosti nabavke
i cene od velikog značaja pri izboru materijala za konkretnu namenu. Tendencije savremenog
načina života su usmerene ka smanjenju potrošnje energije i zaštite životne sredine, pa
se pred inženjere, projektante i konstruktore postavljaju zahtevi da izaberu materijal koji
ima što manju cenu i masu uz istovremeno zadovoljavajuće fizičke, hemijske, mehaničke,
tehnološke ili neke specifične osobine. U svetu se dosta novca ulaže u istraživačke i razvojne
projekte za razvoj novih materijala ili modifikaciju osobina postojećih materijala.
Ovaj udžbenik je namenjen studentima Osnovnih akademskih studija koji slušaju predmet
Mašinski materijali 2 sa fondom časova 5 u trećem semestru na Mašinskom fakultetu
Univerziteta u Beogradu. Gradivo u ovom udžbeniku prati kontinuitet gradiva izloženog
u knjizi Mašinski materijali 1, pa je za praćenje nastave iz predmeta Mašinski materijali 2
neophodno predznanje iz tog predmeta. Cilj autora je bio da ovako složenu problematiku
što jednostavnije prikažu, a da se pri tome održi odgovarajući akademski nivo. Uvek, kada
je to bilo moguće, autori su se potrudili da odgovarajuće objašnjenje ilustruju dobrom
slikom.
Plan i program predmeta Mašinski materijali 2 se sastoji iz dve celine i to: metalni materijali
i postupci spajanja materijala zavarivanjem i lemljenjem.
U prvom delu udžbenika opisani su metalni materijali, njihov način dobijanja, kao i fizička,
hemijska i mehanička svojstva. Od metalnih materijala najviše pažnje je posvećeno
železu i njegovim legurama jer su to još uvek najzastupljeniji konstrukcioni materijali u
mašinstvu. Železo gradi dve grupe legura: čelike i gvožđa; pa je opisan način njihovog
dobijanja, mehaničke i fizičke osobine, kao i njihovo označavanje po najnovijem standardu.
Takođe su opisane neravnotežne transformacije pri hlađenju čelika, kao i termička,
termomehanička i termohemijska obrada. U nastavku je dosta pažnje posvećeno aluminijumu
i njegovim legurama, jer su oni po zastupljenosti odmah posle čelika. Bakar, nikl,
titan i drugi obojeni metali su takođe prikazani.
U drugom delu udžbenika dati su osnovni pojmovi u zavarivanju i opisani su konvencionalni
postupci zavarivanja. Takođe su prikazana ispitivanja zavarenih spojeva metodama sa razaranjem
i bez razaranja, greške u zavarenim spojevima i nivoi kvaliteta zavarenih spojeva.
Kao postupak spajanja materijala, pored zavarivanja, može da se koristi i lemljenje,
pa su na kraju opisani njegovi osnovni principi.
Na kraju knjige navedena je literatura koja može da se koristi u cilju proširenja znanja iz
ovih oblasti.
Autori se zahvaljuju recenzentima, dr Nenadu Radoviću, redovnom profesoru Tehnološkometalurškog
fakulteta Univerziteta u Beogradu i dr Aleksandru Sedmaku, profesoru emeritus
Mašinskog fakulteta Univerziteta u Beogradu, koji su svojim korisnim predlozima
i sugestijama doprineli poboljšanju kvaliteta knjige. Takođe se zahvaljujemo i kolegama
iz laboratorije "KonMat" koji su nam ustupili slike iz IBR-a, kao i kolegi dr Radovanu
Puzoviću, profesoru Mašinskog fakulteta, na nesebičnoj pomoći.
I na kraju, ne kao manje važno, želimo da istaknemo da ova knjiga sigurno na bi ovako
izgledala da nije bilo ogromnog truda i strpljenja prof. dr Dragana Cvetkovića, i na tome
mu neizmerno hvala.

Ovaj udžbenik je namenjen studentima Osnovnih akademskih studija koji slušaju predmet
Mašinski materijali 2 sa fondom časova 5 u trećem semestru na Mašinskom fakultetu
Univerziteta u Beogradu. Gradivo u ovom udžbeniku prati kontinuitet gradiva izloženog
u knjizi Mašinski materijali 1, pa je za praćenje nastave iz predmeta Mašinski materijali 2
neophodno predznanje iz tog predmeta. Cilj autora je bio da ovako složenu problematiku
što jednostavnije prikažu, a da se pri tome održi odgovarajući akademski nivo. Uvek, kada
je to bilo moguće, autori su se potrudili da odgovarajuće objašnjenje ilustruju dobrom
slikom.
Plan i program predmeta Mašinski materijali 2 se sastoji iz dve celine i to: metalni materijali
i postupci spajanja materijala zavarivanjem i lemljenjem.
U prvom delu udžbenika opisani su metalni materijali, njihov način dobijanja, kao i fizička,
hemijska i mehanička svojstva. Od metalnih materijala najviše pažnje je posvećeno
železu i njegovim legurama jer su to još uvek najzastupljeniji konstrukcioni materijali u
mašinstvu. Železo gradi dve grupe legura: čelike i gvožđa; pa je opisan način njihovog
dobijanja, mehaničke i fizičke osobine, kao i njihovo označavanje po najnovijem standardu.
Takođe su opisane neravnotežne transformacije pri hlađenju čelika, kao i termička,
termomehanička i termohemijska obrada. U nastavku je dosta pažnje posvećeno aluminijumu
i njegovim legurama, jer su oni po zastupljenosti odmah posle čelika. Bakar, nikl,
titan i drugi obojeni metali su takođe prikazani.
U drugom delu udžbenika dati su osnovni pojmovi u zavarivanju i opisani su konvencionalni
postupci zavarivanja. Takođe su prikazana ispitivanja zavarenih spojeva metodama sa razaranjem
i bez razaranja, greške u zavarenim spojevima i nivoi kvaliteta zavarenih spojeva.
Kao postupak spajanja materijala, pored zavarivanja, može da se koristi i lemljenje,
pa su na kraju opisani njegovi osnovni principi.
Na kraju knjige navedena je literatura koja može da se koristi u cilju proširenja znanja iz
ovih oblasti.
Autori se zahvaljuju recenzentima, dr Nenadu Radoviću, redovnom profesoru Tehnološkometalurškog
fakulteta Univerziteta u Beogradu i dr Aleksandru Sedmaku, profesoru emeritus
Mašinskog fakulteta Univerziteta u Beogradu, koji su svojim korisnim predlozima
i sugestijama doprineli poboljšanju kvaliteta knjige. Takođe se zahvaljujemo i kolegama

AB  - The problem considered in this paper is the welding technology of the steel assembly of a firefighter truck rear bridge semi-housing. Since in this procedure the welding is done of the two dissimilar steels, it is necessary to analyze effects of welding on mechanical properties and microstructure of individual joint's zones. The weldability of the base metal was considered first (semi-housing tube and flange), then the welding method and the filler metal were selected and, finally, the technological parameters of welding were calculated. The computational and experimental methods were used for the base metal weldability estimate, based on the hardness measurements in the joint's critical zones and analysis of their structures. Experimental investigations performed were aimed for verification and/or eventual correction of the proposed welding technology.

AB  - Surface welding of rail steel with self-shielded wire was conducted with different heat inputs, and the influence of welding heat input on the total impact energy and its components, crack growth rate and fracture mechanism was systematically investigated. It is shown that toughness decreases as heat input increases, but, with a temperature decrease, these differences are not so marked. An increase of heat input leads to increasing the share of transgranular brittle fracture, what is in complete accordance with the obtained energy values. It is established that fatigue life increases when increasing the welding heat input, while resistance to crack growth decreases in the final deposit layer up to the HAZ at all heat inputs. Based on obtained results, the optimal value of heat input is defined for the selected welding procedure.

Synthesis and characterization of new refractory coating based on basalt

AB  - Basalt is a hard volcanic rock. Good technical properties make basalt an
important raw material for the production of glass and glass-ceramics for the application
in various departments of industry. It is a cheap and widespread raw material for the
synthesis of different products such as basalt wool, basalt fibers, basalt plastics, composite
materials. The new application of basalt is to obtain refractory coatings and
application in foundries and protection against fire, corrosion, and erosion. The basic
components of the foundry coatings are refractory filler, binder, additives, and solvent.
Preparation of basalt-based filler is done by grinding and mechanical activation at grain
diameter 20μm. The composition of the coating was determined about the parameters
of the casting process and ranged within limits: filler 92-95%; binder 2,2-2,5%; additives
0,5-1,5% and solvent to the density of coating: 2 g/cm3. Coating suspension with this
density showed high sedimentation stability (below 4.5% of precipitated matters for
24h). These foundry coating can enable the development of new methods of casting
alloys with casting temperature over 1200⁰C.
Composition of basalt-based protective coatings was determined by research
and ranged within the limits: 80-85% refractory filler, 12-17% binder based on epoxy
resin, with organic additives and solvent. To characterize the coating, an ultrasonic
vibration method with a stationary sample was used in accordance with the ASTM G32
standard. The mass loss of samples in the function of the cavitation time was monitored.
Sample surface degradation level was quantified by using the image analysis.
During the test, changes in sample morphology were monitored by means of the scanning
electron microscopy method. Cavitation rate was determined as an indicator of the
resistance of the coating under the effect of cavitation. It has been shown that the
cavitation rate in the case of coatings applied to metal surfaces is higher (v = 0.108
mg/min) than in the case of coatings applied to non-metallic surfaces (v = 0.0435
mg/min). In order to achieve greater resiliency of the coating under the effect of cavitation,
good adhesion of the coating and a higher coating thickness are important. Test
results can provide an estimate of the resistance of coat layers in similar operating
conditions. These coatings are intended for the protection of metallic and non-metallic
surfaces, parts of equipment in metallurgy and mining.

AB  - U istraživanjima je primenjena ultrazvučna vibraciona metoda za ispitivanje kvaliteta zaštitnih
vatrostalnih premaza na bazi bazalta. Određena je otpornost slojeva premaza na dejstvo kavitacije.
Detaljnom analizom promena površine uzoraka premaza utvrđen je mehanizam oštećenja pod dejstvom
kavitacije. Dobijeni rezultati ispitivanja potvrđuju mogućnost primene ove metode za brzu ocenu
kvaliteta zaštitnih premaza i prognozu otpornosti i postojanosti premaza na nanetim površinama.
Takođe, proučeno je i ponašanje livačkih premaza na bazi bazalta u kontaktu sa tečnim metalom,
nastajanje i razvoj oštećenja na površini premaza pod dejstvom struje tečnog metala u fazi ulivanja. Na

Takođe, proučeno je i ponašanje livačkih premaza na bazi bazalta u kontaktu sa tečnim metalom,
nastajanje i razvoj oštećenja na površini premaza pod dejstvom struje tečnog metala u fazi ulivanja. Na
osnovu rezultata istraživanja procenjen je rizik nastajanja defekata na površini odlivaka.",

AB  - The paper examines the cavitation resistance of glass-ceramics samples based on basalt from the Vrelo Kopaonik deposit. The experiment was conducted using an ultrasonic vibration method (with the stationary sample) according to the ASTM G-32 standard. Test samples were obtained by melting, casting and thermal treatment of the raw basalt rocks. For the evaluation of cavitation resistance, a change in the mass of the sample in the function of time was monitored. The level of degradation of sample surface was quantified using the image analysis. The change in the morphology of the sample surface with the test time was followed by scanning electron microscopy. The results showed a high degree of cavitation resistance of glass-ceramic samples based on basalt, which indicates the possibility of their application for the production of parts of equipment in metallurgy.

AB  - This paper examines the possibility of using basalt-based glass ceramics for construction of structural parts of equipment in metallurgy and mining. An ultrasonic vibration method with a stationary sample pursuant to the ASTM G32 standard was used to evaluate the possibility of the glass ceramic samples application in such operating conditions. As the starting material for synthesis of samples, olivine-pyroxene basalt from the locality Vrelo-Kopaonik Mountain (Serbia) was used. In order to obtain pre-determined structure and properties of basalt-based glass ceramics, raw material preparation methods through the sample crushing, grinding, and mechanical activation processes have been examined together with sample synthesis by means of melting, casting, and thermal treatment applied for the samples concerned. The mass loss of samples in function of the cavitation time was monitored. Sample surface degradation level was quantified using the image analysis. During the test, changes in sample morphology were monitored by means of the scanning electronic microscopy method. The results showed that basalt-based glass ceramics are highly resistant to cavitation wear and can be used in similar exploitation conditions as a substitute for other metal materials.

AB  - U radu je ispitivana otpornost na dejstvo kavitacije uzoraka livenog bazalta. Uzorci su dobijeni topljenjem, livenjem i termičkim tretmanom izdrobljenih bazaltnih stena iz ležišta Vrelo Kopaonik. Eksperiment je vođen primenom ultrazvučne vibracione metode sa stacionarnim uzorkom prema standardu ASTM G-32. Za procenu otpornosti na dejstvo kavitacije praćena je promena mase uzoraka u funkciji vremena delovanja kavitacije. Nastajanje i razvoj oštećenja pod dejstvom kavitacije praćeni su skening elektronskim mikroskopom, a nivo degradacije površine uzoraka kvantifikovan je primenom analize slike. Rezultati su pokazali visok stepen otpornosti na dejstvo kavitacije uzoraka livenog bazalta, sa kavitacionom brzinom 0,0294 mg/min. To ukazuje na mogućnost njihove primene za izradu izvesnih konstrukcionih delova opreme za primenu u metalurgiji, kao zamena za metalne materijale.

AB  - The paper presents the results of research on cavitation resistance of the composite based on unsaturated polyester resin and basalt powder, as reinforcement. Basalt powder was obtained by grinding and micronising basaltic rocks from the Vrelo-Kopaonik deposit. Different amounts of basalt powder as reinforcement were applied (g): 0.15; 0.30; 045; 0,50. The mechanical properties (tensile strength, bending strength, hardness) and cavitation resistance properties were determined for the resulting composite. An ultrasonic vibration method (with stationary specimen) was applied according to ASTM G32 standard. Studies have shown that the mechanical properties and cavitation resistance of the composites increase with the addition of basalt powder as reinforcement.

AB  - The paper analyzes the morphology of cavitation damage of raw and sintered basalt samples. The experiment was conducted using the ultrasonic vibratory cavitation test method according to the ASTM G-32 standard. During the determination of the resistance to the effect of cavitation, a change in the mass of samples was observed in the function of the cavitation time of operation. The morphology of damage caused by the effect of cavitation was followed by scanning with an electron microscope, and the level of degradation of the surface of the samples was quantified using the image analysis. The results showed a significantly higher degree of resistance of sintered basalt, with a cavitation rate of 0.019 mg/min relative to raw basalt, with a cavitation rate of 0.738 mg/min. After 120 minutes of exposure to the cavitation effect, a smaller number of small pits on the surface of sintered basalt were observed, while a higher level of damage to the surface with the appearance of numerous pits was found in raw basalt, which can be connected in some places to larger and deeper pits in some places. The obtained results indicate the possibility of using sintered basalt for the production of parts that will be exposed to the effects of high cavitation loads.

AB  - Smanjenje otvora žljeba može značajno doprineti efikasnosti zavarivanja i produktivnosti teških metalnih konstrukcija Uobičajena je upotreba uglova žljeba od 45° i 60°. Smanjenje ugla otvora žljeba smanjuje potreban broj zavara, čime se smanjuje trajanje zavarivanja, potrošnja materijala za ispunu i zaostali naponi i deformacije. Međutim, smanjivanje ugla žljeba dovodi do određenih poteškoća. Teško je kontrolisati luk u uskom žljebu, što može dovesti do problema sa kvalitetom spoja. U ovom radu je prikazano zavarivanje sučeonih spojeva od čelika debljine 22 mm sa uglom žljeba od 20°. Zavarivanje je izvršeno korišćenjem MAG postupkom zavarivanja, uz softversku kontrolu luka.
AB  - Reduction in groove opening can significantly contribute to welding efficiency and productivity of heavy metal structures. It is common practice to use welded joint groove angles of 45° and 60°. Reduction of the groove opening angle decreases the necessary number of welding passes, thus decreasing the welding duration, filler material consumption and residual stresses and strain. However, groove angle reduction leads to certain difficulties. It is hard to control the arc in a narrow groove, which could lead to welded joint quality issues. In this paper, welding of butt joints made of 22 mm thick steel with the groove angle of 20° is shown. Welding was performed using the MAG procedure, with software controlled ar.

AB  - In this paper is presented behavior of microalloyed steel weld metal with niobium during impact testing, as well as microstructural characterization. Impact tests were done on instrumented Charpy pendulum at room temperature, at -40 degrees C and -55 degrees C. At room temperature, crack propagation energy is much higher than crack initiation energy, while at -40 degrees C and -55 degrees C crack growth energy is lower than crack initiation energy. Fractographic investigation of the fracture surfaces has shown that at room temperature ductile trans-granular fracture is dominant, with a small amount of brittle trans-granular fracture. At lower temperature, the share of brittle fracture is increased, and inter-granular brittle fracture becomes dominant

AB  - Stabilnost procesa zavarivanja ima značajan uticaj na postizanje propisanog
nivoa kvaliteta zavarenog spoja. Povećanje stabilnosti utiče na smanjenje
mogućnosti pojave nesavršenosti, odnosno grešaka u samom spoju. Stabilnost procesa zavarivanja se ogleda u stabilnosti električnog luka. Promene
dužine luka tokom zavarivanja utiču na varijaciju parametara zavarivanja,
tačnije na jačinu struje i napon. Na osnovu praćenja parametara zavarivanja
u realnom vremenu može se izvršiti statistička analiza dobijenih rezultata.
U radu je prikazan uticaj brzine dovođenja žice i vrste zaštitne atmosfere na
stabilnost MIG/MAG postupka zavarivanja pri upotrebi metalne punjene
elektrodne žice.

AB  - Zavarivanje se široko primenjuje u industriji pri izradi različite opreme,
mostova, kranova, transportnih sredstava i sl. Ono ima odlučujući uticaj na
kvalitet, pouzdanost, vek i cenu izrade navedenih konstrukcija. Međutim,
kvalitet izvedenih zavarenih spojeva je teško ili je često gotovo nemoguće
utvrditi ispitivanjima na samim konstrukcijama. Zbog toga je potrebno
praćenje toka izrade zavarenih konstrukcija od ugovaranja i projektovanja,
preko kvalifikacije i sertifikacije osoblja i opreme, kvalifikacije procedura
zavarivanja i kontrole tokom i nakon završene izrade konstrukcije. Zahtevi za
kvalitet koje treba ispuniti u pojedinim fazama izrade konstrukcija definisani
su u standardima serije EN ISO 3834.
Odstupanja izvedenog kvaliteta zavarenih spojeva od potrebnog najčešće
nastaju u fazi zavarivanja. Do sada nije postojala mogućnost za kontinualno
praćenje, beleženje i skladištenje podataka o parametrima zavarivanja. U radu
je prikazan sistem zasnovan na informacionim tehnologijama, koji omogućava
prikupljanje i beleženje podataka o parametrima zavarivanja, upotrebljenim
materijalima i angažovanim zavarivačima, njihovo poređenje sa zadatim vrednostima i obustavljanje zavarivanja u slučajevima utvrđenih odstupanja. Na
taj način se znatno poboljšava kvalitet i pouzdanost zavarenih konstrukcija.

AB  - Welded joints represent locations where failure is most likely to occur in welded structures. Welded joint failure depends on their vulnerability to crack initiation and growth. These factors are significantly influenced by the welding technology. The effect of welding technology on the frequency of welded joint failure is complex, and has been thoroughly researched in literature. However, there are still numerous factors whose influence is not sufficiently explained. In this paper, the ratio of strength and plasticity of parent materials and weld metals on deformation properties of welded joint zones were analysed, along with the effects of groove edge temperature on cooling time in the heat affected zone and the effect of multiple defects on local stress increase.

Failure analysis of carbon steel screws under the service in the presence of corrosion environment

AB  - The aim of this paper was to determine the causes of screws failures in compressor valves, obtained from petroleum industry. The analysed screws were in exploitation and deposition coated. Before the fracture analysis, control calculation of screws is done in order to determine, if the screws are properly dimensioned. After visual and radiographic examination, their chemical composition and structure were analysed. Detail fractography was performed on fractured surfaces to try to obtain an impression about screws failure mechanism. Qualitative analysis of deposit was employed in order to confirm if there was any possible influence of surroundings during their failure in terms of corrosion-assisted cracking. The macrofractography of originally broken surfaces shows a rough and complex topography of fracture surfaces indicating to a possibility that screws failure has been a result of complex loading conditions. Presence of sulfur containing particles on the fracture surfaces of broken screws and in deposit reveals a possibility that failure was environmentally-assisted.

Qualitative analysis of deposit was employed in order to confirm if there was any possible influence of surroundings during their failure in terms of corrosion-assisted cracking. The macrofractography of originally broken surfaces shows a rough and complex topography of fracture surfaces indicating to a possibility that screws failure has been a result of complex loading conditions. Presence of sulfur containing particles on the fracture surfaces of broken screws and in deposit reveals a possibility that failure was environmentally-assisted.",

AB  - Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to point out the possibilities for friction welding of dissimilar steels which are used in various industries. In addition, friction welding is a welding method that is applied for executing the very responsible joints. This research is focused on friction and tribological processes in the friction plane of the two pieces during the welding. Design/methodology/approach - The present study research has been conducted based on the experimental testing of cylindrical specimens and results are analyzed. Findings - The austenite grain size is affected by several factors through the friction process phase and the compacting phase during the welding. The very fine grain is the consequence of the high degree of the plastic deformation of the near-the-contact layers even in the friction phase. The viscous layer, which is formed during the stable friction phase, is the area where the moving of matter occurs according to a very complex mechanism. Originality/value - The paper contains useful results from the area of conventional friction welding of dissimilar steels and it can be very useful to researchers and engineers who deal with similar problems.

The influence of heat input on the toughness and fracture mechanism of surface weld metal

AB  - Surface welding is a way to extend the exploitation life of damaged parts and constructions and the heat input has a major influence on the weldment properties. In this paper is shown the influence of the heat input on the toughness and the fracture mechanism of the surface welded joint. Surface welding of high carbon steel with self shielded wire was conducted with three different heat inputs (6kJ/cm, 10 kJ/cm and 16 kJ/cm). Total impact energy, crack initiation and crack propagation energy were estimated at room temperature, -20 degrees C and -40 degrees C. Fracture analysis of fractured surfaces was also conducted and it has been found that increasing of heat input leads to an increase of share of transgranular brittle fracture, what is in complete accordance with the obtained energy values. Based on all obtained results, the optimum value of heat input for welding procedure applied was defined.

AB  - The problems related to welding of the high strength steel, aimed for manufacturing of welded structures operating in the prominent wear conditions, is considered in this paper. The paper presents an analysis of possibilities and prescribing the technology for welding the high strength steel HARDOX 450. The methodology for estimate the weldability of this steel was established in the theoretical part of the paper, as well as calculations of the welding parameters, while the hardness was investigated in details and the macro and micro structures of the individual welded joint zones were estimated in the experimental part. Obtained experimental results could be usefully applied for selecting and establishing the optimal welding technology for structures made of this steel. The technology thus established and the GMAW welding regime can enable successful execution of the welded joints and reduce the possibility for appearance of flaws and cracks to a minimum.
