AB - A new approach for the determination of the global minimum time for the case of the brachistochronic motion of the Chaplygin sleigh is presented. The new approach is based on the use of the shooting method in solving the corresponding two-point boundary-value problem and defining either the crossing points of surfaces or the crossing points space of curves in a three-dimensional space of two costate variables and the time of the brachistochronic motion of the sleigh. A number of examples for multiple extremals of the Chaplygin sleigh brachistochrone problem are provided. In these examples, the global minimum is the solution to which the minimum time of motion corresponds.

AB - The paper defines "equal oscillatory comfort zones" as a novel concept in the sphere of the bus vertical dynamics. Oscillatory zones are determined using the original and validated oscillatory model of the intercity bus and comfort criteria according to the international ISO 2631/1997 standard requirements. The bus spatial oscillatory model with 65 degrees of freedom (DOF) was built in the ADAMS/View module of the multibody software package MSC.ADAMS. The model was excited by two different real road surfaces: poor asphalt-concrete and good asphalt-concrete pavements, registered at the speed of 64 km/h and 90 km/h respectively. It was found by simulation that oscillatory zones with different comfort assessments exist in the bus. The most comfortable oscillatory zone is in the middle part of the bus (between the front and the rear axle), whereas the least comfortable oscillatory zone is on the rear bus overhang. For the purpose of the ride comfort harmonization, using Design of Experiments (DOE) analysis, new oscillatory parameters are proposed for passenger seats which do not ensure satisfactory oscillatory comfort level. It is concluded that harmonization of oscillatory comfort for all bus passengers could be achieved for good asphalt-concrete excitation. For the poor road excitation it is possible to achieve significant improvement of comfort, especially for the assistant driver and passengers in the bus rear overhang. On a poor asphalt-concrete pavement, by using the proposed seat oscillatory parameters, the allowed exposure time for vertical whole body vibration would be considerably extended. Relevance to industry: Oscillatory comfort has a particular importance for users of intercity buses traveling longer distances. Comfort assessment of each bus user and mapping of comfort zones can indicate the individual seat and group of the seats on which the oscillatory comfort is reduced. Proper selection of seat oscillatory parameters can improve users comfort. Results of such an analysis can significantly help bus designers and manufacturers in order to improve and harmonize oscillatory comfort on the whole vehicle platform.

AB - Using the optimal control theory, the problem of finding profiles of gravity flow discharge chutes required to achieve maximum exit velocity of granular material under the speed dependent resisting forces is solved. A model of a particle moving down a curve which is treated as a unilateral constraint is used. The fast flow condition and the condition that the particle does not leave the curve are introduced as the additional inequality constraints. The influence of the initial particle speed and the power of the speed in the expression for the resisting force on the optimal chute profile are analyzed.

AB - The Lyapunov first method generalized to the case of nonlinear differential equations is applied to the study of the instability of the equilibrium position of a mechanical system, whose motion is constrained by singular nonholonomic constraints. Starting from the results of S. D. Furta (On the instability of equilibrium position of constrained mechanical systems) three theorems on the instability are formulated. The first theorem considers the case of nonholonomic constraints that do not satisfy the condition of weak nonholonomity. The other two theorems are related to the case of weakly nonholonomic systems. In each of the formulated theorems it is shown that the minimum form of Maclaurin series for the potential energy has not a local minimum. Thus, a contribution has been made to the inversion of Lagrange's theorem.

AB - This paper deals with the brachistochronic motion of the Chaplygin sleigh on a horizontal plane surface. Two cases are considered, such as: the case when the magnitude of the horizontal reaction force at the contact point of the knife edge with the surface is unbounded, and the case when the magnitude of this force is bounded. The problem is solved by applying Pontryagin's maximum principle and singular optimal control theory. The angular acceleration of the sleigh is taken for a control variable. The problem considered is reduced to solving the corresponding two-point boundary value problem. In order to solve the obtained boundary value problem, an appropriate numerical procedure based on the shooting method is presented. Also, the paper analyzes the influence of the bounded magnitude of the reaction force on the structure of the controller sequence. It is shown that in the case of unbounded magnitude of the reaction force, the control is singular, and in the case of bounded magnitude, the control is, in a general case, a combination of singular and bang-bang controls.

AB - The paper analyzes the effects of vibrations on the comfort of intercity bus IK-301 users. Evaluation of vibration effects was carried out according to the criteria set out in the 1997 ISO 2631-1 standard for comfort in public means of transport. Comfort is determined for the space of a driver, passenger in the middle part of the bus and passenger in the rear overhang. Also, the allowable exposure time to vibrations in drivers for the reduced comfort criterion was determined according to the 1978 ISO 2631-1 standard. The bus spatial oscillatory model with ten degrees of freedom was developed for the needs of the analysis. Bus excitation was generated applying the Power Spectral Density of the asphalt-concrete road roughness, as described by the H. Braun model. The allowable vibration exposure time for the driver's body decreases as the spring stiffness of the driver's seat suspension system increases. Simulation was performed using the MATLAB software.

AB - This paper shows the process of braking force realization by air brakes with brake shoes accompanied by a suitable mechanical model. The complexity of adhesion nature as a physical phenomenon as well as the limited factors on which the braking force value depends are pointed out. According to this, the model of braking force realization based on the fuzzy set theory is explained. The procedure of fuzzy controller projecting with a task to regulate the value of kidding and by that the value of braking torque through the air pressure in the braking cylinder by maximizing the braking force that can be realized according to adhesion conditions is described. The testing of the optimization model under concrete adhesion conditions of the wheels on the rails is done at the end of the paper.

AB - The paper considers brachistochronic motion of a particle along a curve y=y(x) in an arbitrary force field in the vertical plane of Cartesian coordinate system. The curve is treated as a bilateral or unilateral constraint that can be smooth or rough. The projection of the reaction force of the curve onto the normal to the curve is confined to the fixed limits. A control variable u is given as the second derivative of the function y(x) relative to the horizontal coordinate x of the particle, i.e., u=d (2) y/dx (2). Applying Pontryagin's maximum principle and singular optimal control theory, the problem is reduced to numerical solving of the corresponding two-point boundary value problem. The procedure based on the shooting method is used to solve the boundary value problem. Two examples with friction forces of the viscous friction and Coulomb friction type have been solved.

AB - It happens very often that we want to design a cantilever beam, while all project
requirements are not fully known. Namely, we know roughly what the structure should
realize. In classical optimization standard procedure should be applied in order to satisfy all
the pre-requirements. What happens if the requirements can only be described, but not
explicitly set? This paper starts from the premise that some requirements are expressed
linguistically. We want that the length and the largest deflection of a cantilever beam are
suitable to satisfy the predetermined conditions. Also, the goals are that the bending stress
and the largest deflection have to be less than the allowable maximum value. The objective
of this paper is: on known constraints and known fuzzy goal functions we must execute
fuzzy projecting of a beam. Constraints are: the length of cantilever beam and its deflection,
while the goal functions are maximum bending stress and maximum deflection. On this
basis, with known cross-sectional dimensions, we can determine the maximum cantilever
beam load.

AB - This paper deals with the process of traction force realization described by a suitable mechanical model and is pointed to the adhesion phenomenon as a physical one, i.e. is a suitable factor that the value of traction force depends on. The model for the process of optimizing locomotive traction force based on using the fuzzy set theory is explained. The projecting process of a fuzzy controller regulating the value of skidding and the value of traction torque by increasing the value of traction force that can be realized according to adhesion conditions is described. Finally, testing the optimization model in several numerical examples under specific conditions of wheel-rail adhesion is done.

AB - The present paper deals with the problem of controller function in active system of tilting in high speed railway vehicles, which is based on different mechanical models of railway vehicles. According to the classical mechanical model of the vehicle, an appropriate mechanical multibody system is formed in this paper. In conformity with the basic constructive parameters of the active system of tilting, guidance control function of actuator operating process is formed. Basic mechanical model, in dependence of characteristic constructive parameters, according to the theory of robust robotic control is given in the form of closed kinematics chain with branching. For the concrete model of high speed railway vehicle, differential equations of motion are obtained in the form optimal for control function evaluation and calculation.

AB - The existing similarity measures between fuzzy sets have been analyzed at the beginning of the paper. The existing measures have been defined as the similarity measures of the two fuzzy sets. The constraints these measures include are that they are applied for the fuzzy sets whose membership functions are discontinuous. Likewise, the properties of the existing measures have been analyzed. It has been noted that in most frequent cases not even the basic properties these measures should fulfill have been fulfilled. On the basis of the existing measures, the similarity measure Z A,B between two fuzzy sets has been analyzed. This measure fulfills the basic properties. In certain cases this measure gives the indefinite result ∞/∞. The solution to this problem has been presented in this paper. With this solution, the measure Z A,B has been determined to the full in each case, and the constraints do not affect the quality of the solution. The new measure with which we can determine the similarity measure of more fuzzy sets has been defined using the measure Z A,B. With the introduction of the constraints for the new similarity measure among more fuzzy sets the new measure provides good results in all cases.
