AB - For many years, from the theoretical and practical aspects, the first and second laws of illumination have been in use. Both mentioned laws were applied in various scientific disciplines, such as physics, ergonomics, architecture, horticulture, as well as in many engineering disciplines. The first law of illumination is called the Inverse Square Law. The second law of illumination is called Lambert's Cosine Law. Conceptually, both of these laws are related to surface illumination. The first law of illumination determines the illumination of the surface on which the light ray falls at a right angle. The second law of illumination determines the illumination of a surface on which light rays fall at a certain angle different from 900. In this paper, it is shown why both of these laws are not adequate in conceptual terms. The presented examples additionally show what inaccuracies in illumination calculation can occur based on the application of these laws, especially the second law of illumination. The paper presents a new concept of illumination based on the illumination of the point of space. In addition, a new, universal law of illumination has been formulated here, which from a theoretical and practical point of view is more precise than the previously mentioned laws of illumination. This new law of illumination fully reflects the nature of the light emitted by a light source, which does not depend on the orientation of any surface upon which the light beam encounters. Previously formed first and second laws of illumination can be completely replaced from the theoretical and the practical aspect by the newly formed universal law of illumination, which opens up new possibilities for the advancement of the science of illumination and other scientific disciplines that use this knowledge.

AB - Many companies around the world that develop different types of products still do not apply ergonomics at all during this process, or apply it on an intuitive basis. Very few companies are aware of the importance of engaging ergonomists in the design team, as well as the benefits that can be achieved on that basis. With this in mind, this paper aims to point out the role of ergonomics and ergonomists in the design of consumer products. A novel model that refers to the phases of designing a product has been presented, for the purpose of showing how and when ergonomics can be applied during the design process. For each phase, examples have also been given. In addition, the paper identifies potential reasons that have influenced the current situation referring to the insufficient application of ergonomics in the designing of consumer products. This paper could serve as a guide for the implementation of ergonomics and engagement of ergonomists in the process of product designing.

AB - The research presented in this paper refers to the possibility to understand the information
presented by symbols, which indicate safety status and possible troubles regarding automobiles and driving. The testing included sixteen symbols, six of which were ISO-verified and recommended symbols. The study included 204 youth respondents. The study used a multidisciplinary, ergonomic approach, based on research of the usability of symbols. The basic task of subjects was to recognize the symbols and to rate their confidence on the five-point scale that they gave exact answers. For each symbol, hypotheses about the proportion of correct answers at the population level were tested, applying the inferential statistics technique. The ISO criterion of 67% successful symbol recognition was adopted as the limit value for the justification of the use of symbols. The test results showed that
eight out of sixteen symbols did not meet this criterion. The results of this research indicate that it is
necessary to take certain measures in order to improve the understanding of the function of symbols on vehicle dashboards. One of the proposed measures consists in the improvement of training courses in driving schools, which from a theoretical but also a practical aspect should include education about symbols on car dashboards, primarily those responsible for informing about the safety status. In addition, a redesign of the symbols that had the lowest recognition rate can be recommended.

AB - Recent years have witnessed an increasing number of electric bicycles on the roads and a rise in the number of road crashes involving e-bicyclists. There are various causes of road crashes involving e-bicyclists. Out of the total number of fatalities in traffic, bicyclists account for 9% in the Republic of Serbia. Road crashes occurring when motor vehicles overtake bicyclists make up 13% of the total number of road crashes involving bicyclists. Having in mind the above-mentioned, an experimental study has been conducted in order to analyze whether the use of helmets and reflective vests, different vehicle categories, and the speed of electric bicycles affect the lateral distance when overtaking e-bicycles. This research analyzed the lateral distance of 1228 vehicles overtaking an e-bicyclist. There are statistically significant differences in the lateral distance when overtaking an e-bicycle regarding helmet use, different vehicle categories overtaking the e-bicycle, and different speeds of the e-bicycle. The results showed that a faster speed of an e-bicycle led to a shorter lateral distance when overtaking it and that SUV drivers (along with motorcycle drivers) had the shortest lateral distance when overtaking e-bicycles.

AB - Although belittling as a psychological and behavioral phenomenon is common in everyday life and especially among the younger population, there is not a single scientific work in the world that previously exclusively treated only the aforementioned phenomenon. The paper discusses the relationship between the person who belittles and the person who is belittled. Classification of the causes that determine the appearance of belittling in human behavior has been performed into five basic categories. Then the risks associated with belittling comparative human values and achievements were considered. In the example of a tragic event with a fatal outcome, it was shown how dangerous it can be when belittling is applied as a pattern of behavior. In addition to the theoretical consideration of this phenomenon, the paper provides initial practical guidelines for elements of various social structures, including the authorities and people who govern nations, how to eradicate or significantly reduce the occurrence of this harmful form of behavior, in order to create solid foundations for the unhindered future prosperity of humanity.

AB - Today's times are characterized by increased mobility of people, primarily by road traffic. The number of zones where roadworks are carried out is continuously increasing, so the number of risky situations in which drivers can find themselves is also increasing. Roadwork zones represent high-risk conditions in traffic, both for road users and construction workers. This paper presents and analyses data on road crashes and their consequences in roadwork zones, including the analysis of four typical roadwork situations that could pose a risk for traffic participants. The obtained results can be used to prevent similar accidents in the future in road construction zones.

AB - The topic of this paper is the EU Machinery Directive (MD) and the contribution of ergonomics and the Federation of European Ergonomics Societies (FEES) to the development of this Directive. At the beginning, the contribution of FEES to the process of development of this Directive is considered through the analysis of the activities of this European organization so far. Then, the key changes envisaged by the new MD were discussed, as well as the possible consequences of the planned changes. Aspects of the inclusion of artificial intelligence in MD, as well as the effects of MD on Industry 4.0 have also been taken into account. In addition, certain future possible contributions of ergonomics for the improvement of MD have been identified, primarily those based on the analysis of errors in the human - machine system.

AB - It is generally recognized that sight is the most important sensory perception used to collect information while driving, comprising up to 90% of the total information collected. It is of great importance that those objects and stimuli that must be perceived to drive safe, are the ones that will be the first to be observed and located by the driver. It is especially demanding when objects are perceived using mirrors in the vehicle. For the above reasons, an experimental study was carried out, which includes the evaluation of the distance with/without rear-view mirrors in the vehicle. The results show the difference in the estimation of distances when a rear-view mirror is used and when the rear-view mirror is not used. The test objects were various colors, so the results involve also this aspect of perception. The above results play an important role in improving the safety of all road users.

The testing included 4 symbols, three of which were ISO verified symbols. This study of the usability of symbols on a sample of respondents showed that the understanding of the information presented using symbols is relatively low and ranges between 51% and 65%. By testing statistical hypotheses, it was found that at the population level, these values are even lower. Suggestions have been given that should initiate the improvement of the usability of this type of symbol.

AB - The research presented in this document addresses the ability of drivers to understand what information has been presented by symbols that are used to indicate certain status of vehicle lights. The concept known as usability can be applied extensively to ergonomic design and testing of a wide range of products and systems, including cars. In order to assess drivers' understanding of what information is exactly presented by symbols that are used to describe the state of the lighting system of an automobile, a usability test was designed. The test included 4 symbols, three of which were ISO-approved symbols. This study of usability of symbols on a sample of drivers showed that understanding of information represented by symbols is relatively low, ranging from 41.93% to 61.29%. Certain statistical tests allow for prognosis results on a population level, using the data based on a sample. For that purpose, we used the Z-test of a sample proportion. Testing of statistical hypotheses yielded even lower values of symbols understanding at the population level, for each tested symbol. Suggestions have been made to improve the usability of this type of symbol.

For the above reasons, experimental research was carried out in which it examined how the designed traffic playground can be used in the education of children about traffic safety. For research purposes, a traffic playground was designed in a real and virtual environment. 60 children between the ages of 7 and 10 participated in the experiment. The recognition of the elements of design traffic playgrounds, as well as the behavior of children when crossing the street in a virtual and real traffic environment, were examined. Children have a higher percentage of correct answers in the virtual traffic environment than in the real traffic environment.

AB - The subject of this paper is the identification of hazards for the workplace of the operator of bucket-wheel excavator, as well as risk assessment. The original HRN (Hazard Rating Number) method was used to assess the risk. The modification that has been proposed in this paper consists of determining the MPLi values for each identified hazard. This means that risk assessment in line with this new approach involves calculating more than one MPL value. In this way, unlike the classical approach, the variety of hazards in intensity or quantity over time is taken into account. In addition, this new approach takes into account the exposure time of workers. In this way, the effect of different consequences on the health of workers for each identified hazard is included. This further allows a preventive/corrective strategy to be developed depending on the calculated HRNi values. It also opens the possibility to apply adequate corrective action depending on the current situation, which provides significant savings in the system. In this way, the company's management has a number of strategies at its disposal that it can activate in the event of a change in the situation.

AB - In addition to all of the severe consequences on human health, the SARS-CoV-2 virus pandemic resulted in economic repercussions. Many people have lost their jobs around the world, some have been directed to forced leave, and wages have been cut in many branches of industry. All of this created a sense of concern and sometimes panic among the workers. The goal of this study was to examine the extent of induced employee concerns as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic's detrimental influence on economic trends. One of this study's key goals was to consider if there was a statistically significant difference between the level of concern of employees who work for governmental institutions and firms and those who worked for private companies. The results of the analysis indicate that in general, the level of concern about detrimental effects of the pandemic on the job determinants is higher among employees in the private sector. In addition, seen as a whole, the level of concern of employees has not been dramatic, but it cannot be neglected and it requires further attention.

AB - The subject of this study is the functioning of companies with a large number of employees in the conditions of a pandemic, on whose work the life and work of the majority of the population of a country largely depend. Such are, for example, companies from the energy sector. If the infection caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus were to spread in such companies, the consequences for the life and work of citizens would be incalculable. Through the control of human - object interaction, ergonomics contributes to preventing the transmission of infection. In order to assess the application of ergonomic, organizational and safety measures to prevent the spread of infection, a questionnaire was formed in this paper. It was used in a case study that included a company of national importance with a large number of employees, which operates within the Electric Power Industry of Serbia. The research included 158 employees in this company. Observation, interviewing and insight into relevant company documentation were used as control methods. The results of the research showed a high agreement of the results collected by the mentioned methods. The study showed that most ergonomic measures are applied to suppress the transmission of the infection, as well as that they give satisfactory results. However, one of the biggest problems is group work, when it is often not possible to maintain the prescribed distance between employees. In this regard, the new role of ergonomics and its experts was emphasized, which consists in redesigning work tasks and the workplaces in a way that will not endanger work efficiency, and which will contribute to preventing the spread of infection among employees.

In addition to the hazards arising from the design of the machine itself, ergonomic hazards have been identified, as well as hazards arising from the working environment. The HRN (Hazard Rating Number) method was used to assess the risk. The emphasis of the paper is on the comparison of the original HRN method with two modifications of this method. The mentioned modifications refer to the tabular values of the influencing factors used in the risk assessment. It was concluded that the original HRN method still represents a solid basis that allows its application in practice for risk assessment.

AB - The COVID-19 virus pandemic has caused a state of global economic uncertainty. This problem affects not only employees, but also the population of pensioners. The stability of pension systems in many regions of the world is threatened by a pandemic. Such a situation causes a feeling of uncertainty and fear among pensioners. Due to possible reductions in the amount of pensions, they become unsure whether they will be able to meet their basic living needs. All this is reflected in the perception of pensioners regarding their inability to pay bills for electricity, water, heating, medicines, or food in the coming period. Although this problem is expressed in a large part of the human population, this is the first paper in the world to consider this problem. In order to investigate this problem, a questionnaire was formed, which refers to the assessment of the level of concern (fear) of pensioners in terms of meeting basic subsistence needs in the pandemic. The research was conducted on a sample of pensioners from Serbia. The analysis of the research results indicates the segments that are of particular concern to retirees, as well as that additional attention should be paid to this problem on a global scale.

AB - The COVID-19 virus pandemic has caused numerous changes in people's lives and work. As an inevitable consequence of the application of various measures of physical distancing and isolation prescribed by state institutions, the health care system and companies, the development of social isolation of people has occurred. This social isolation caused mental stress. In order to assess the level of induced stress due to the existence of social isolation, a new method was developed in this paper, which involves the use of a new SICS questionnaire to assess this impact. The paper presents the advantages of applying this method. One of the main advantages of the mentioned method is the simplicity of application, because it does not require two questionnaires to assess the mentioned impact, but only one. In addition, this method does not require the use of complex tools for mathematical data processing. The SICS questionnaire also has certain advantages. It enables unambiguous measurement of stress, because here stress is viewed in its original form, as a phenomenon of mental stress, effort or load caused by a certain event or circumstance. In addition, the SICS covers a greater number of relevant determinants of social isolation as a result of a pandemic than other tools previously used for that purpose. Measurement accuracy has also been improved, as each question measures stress that is induced as a consequence of a precisely defined factor of social isolation. Other advantages of this questionnaire include the fact that the data obtained by its application are easy to interpret, without the need to assess stress before and during social isolation. SICS was formed with the aim to primarily measure the objective component of social isolation. The questionnaire was successfully tested on a sample of 500 citizens of Serbia.

AB - The importance of adequate lighting in buses for urban passenger transport is great, for the reason that adequately designed lighting contributes to the comfort and safety of passengers. In addition to the fact that passengers expect that the buses participating in public transport meet adequate lighting conditions, they also expect that identical or approximately the same lighting conditions (as well as other environmental conditions) exist in all buses, regardless of brand or type of a bus that participates in transportation. In this way, a balanced quality of service is achieved and a positive effect on customer satisfaction. The focus of this paper is to investigate the existence of differences in the distribution of light in different types and brands of buses used for urban passenger transport in Belgrade. For this purpose, five locations where illumination was measured were selected: at eye level for the seated passenger position, at floor level at the aisle location, at floor level at the stair location, at eye level for the standing position of the passenger at the aisle location and at the location of warning signs. The research included 140 buses that have participated in urban passenger transport. As an additional factor, the zones of higher and lower street lighting were taken into account. This factor has not previously been taken into account in considerations of this kind. Based on the testing of statistical hypotheses, the results of the research showed that at none of the five mentioned locations there is a uniform level of illumination in the observed sample of buses. In order to eliminate this shortcoming, certain recommendations have been given for lighting designers of buses.

abstract = "The importance of adequate lighting in buses for urban passenger transport is great, for the reason that adequately designed lighting contributes to the comfort and safety of passengers. AB - This paper aims to point out the negative effect that democracy
can have on the achievement of social goals, based on the
stimulation of a certain type of human behavior. It is common
knowledge that democracy is a civilizational creation that forces
decision-making based on a majority vote. In addition, democracy
is characterized by freedom of expression, where each individual
has the right to express their own opinion. Although these two
characteristics of democracy sound promising and logical at first,
they do not always give good results in practice. Moreover, in
some cases, a democratic approach to achieving social goals can
yield extremely poor outcomes. On the basis of a virtual example,
which represents a simulation of a real situation, it has been
shown how this is theoretically and practically possible.

AB - The Ergonomics and Human Factors Regional Educational CEEPUS Network was established and approved for funding as a result of collaboration between nine universities with a key role in teaching and cultivating ergonomic knowledge and the profession of ergonomist (especially in industrial and logistics systems fields). The prestigious participating universities in Belgrade, Budapest, Krems, Maribor, Nitra, Poznan, Timisoara, Varna and Zagreb aim to promote cooperation in research (providing support for doctoral programs, joint scientific and didactic publications) and in education, at the level of European requirements and standards, but with a focus especially in the Danube region. The aim of the network is to facilitate, encourage and support education, research and professions in the field of ergonomics and the human factor, mainly through mobility, guidance and joint support of doctoral programs (in accordance with existing legislation, rules and regulations in each partner university), and in the long term it is aimed at creating a common doctoral training in the field.
