AB - International shipping is still the most important transportation method. Besides the uncountable benefits, ships have a considerable role on environment. Greenhouse gas emissions is the most negative effects of freight transport and has undesirable effects on the environment. Exhaust gases are the primary source of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) from ships and carbon dioxide is the most important GHG, both in terms of quantity and of global warming potential. In view of rising environmental concerns of GHG, shipping lines must also consider cutting down their carbon footprints in their strategic and tactical planning. Intermodal freight transport, where freight is shipped from origin port with gateway ports by a sequence of at least two transportation modes, offers the possibility of shifting freight (either partially or in full) from one mode to another in the hope of reducing the greenhouse emissions by appropriately scheduling the services and routing the freight. Traditional planning methods for scheduling services in an intennodal transportation network usually focus on minimizing travel or time-related costs of transport. The main objective of this paper is to find for the most favorable solution from a range of permissible solutions in terms of the criterion adopted, the lowest transport costs and the minimum emission of gases when transporting the container. The developed mathematical model is verified by the example of container transportation from Shanghai to Belgrade using four scenarios and one hypothetical model. The mathematical model gives us the possibility to observe the entire range of solutions, as well as the ability to rank them, by which a simple selection of a group of the most favorable solutions is made, while simultaneously looking at transport costs and gas emissions. The model responds to different customer requirements as some require lower transport costs, while others are focused on minimizing and faster delivery times, taking into account the increasingly important issue of environmental sustainability by minimizing gas emissions. The mathematical model as a separate software package was implemented by Agent Plus in the process of business improvement through continuous monitoring of continuous changes in the market, which also verified its application in practice.

AB - Research trying to determine the impact of the use of daytime running lights (DRL), in vehicles, on road safety are lasting throughout the decades. The largest number of previous studies were focused on the search for a relationship between the use of daytime running lights and the number of traffic accidents. As the occurrence of accidents is affected by many factors, this paper examines whether there are differences in drivel's estimation of passenger car speed when daytime running lights are turned on or off. In order to examine these issues in more details, driving simulator research was conducted. The respondents estimated passenger car speed of 30 km/h, 50 km/h, 70 km/h and 90 km/h, in both conditions (with and without DRL). The results of this research clearly indicate that there are differences in the estimation of passenger car speed when DRL are turned on or off. These differences are statistically significant for higher vehicle speeds (70 km/h and 90 km/h). Furthermore, demographic factors, frequency of driving, as well as involvement in traffic accidents, show significant impact on vehicle speed estimation. The recommended measures (that imply the usage of the DRL only outside of the residential areas), would greatly contribute to the protection and preservation of the environment, primarily in built-up areas.

AB - The paper presents a proposal of mathematical models for the determination of propulsion coefficient, eta pp, intended for the analysis of motor freighters applied on the river watercourses. As the main paper contribution three different model types are developed, depending on the variable which contributes to eta pp value. These variables are: 1. the freighter sailing velocity, (nu); 2. the installed capacity of the main drive motor of outboard unit, (N-inst); 3. the combination of these two variables, (N-inst, nu). The models are verified on the examples of several motor freighters which are applied at Danube river. The special attention is paid to the determination of the optimum approximation function in each case. In all three cases it is a quadratic function. The correlation coefficient for the comparison in all analyzed examples is higher than 0.87, being even higher than 0.99 for the first model.

AB - Container transport today plays a very important role in the transport of goods with a constant tendency of growth in the context of global economic globalization. The advantages of container transport have been recognized since the 1980s, and they relate to the whole economy and even society as a whole. Increased number of business entities involved in the process, improved coordination and transport management, enabled the achievement of economies of scale in door-to-door modality, all of which led to cost savings and profit increases. Transportation costs and transit time are the two most commonly considered problems in container transport. Also, carbon dioxide emissions can no longer be ignored: on the one hand, companies have a moral obligation to operate in a sustainable way, and on the other hand, as customers become more and more aware of the enormous impacts on the environment. The main goal of the doctoral dissertation is the concept of multimodalism and the creation of a new generic knowledge for making the optimal decision in terms of more adopted heterogeneous criteria: transport costs, transit time, carbon dioxide emissions. In this paper a mathematical model is generated and provides the opportunity to observe, in addition to the optimal, full spectrum of possible solutions, giving us the possibility of their ranking, observing the three heterogeneous criteria at the same time. Also, a special software package for the process of improving the operations of logistics companies has been developed through the continuous monitoring of uninterrupted changes in the market. The advantage of the model is that it can be applied to different nodes and container merchandise flows in intermodal networks, taking into account concept of multimodalism by itself. In the practical domain, the expected results provide companies with the ability to make decisions about transport routes, taking into account all three optimized criteria, leaving the possibility of decision depending on the weight coefficients that are at the moment at stake as most important.

AB - Free vibration of an Euler-Bernoulli beam with rigid bodies connected to the beam ends by both revolute joints and torsional springs is considered. The mass centers of rigid bodies have both the transverse and the axial eccentricity relative to the neutral axis of the undeformed beam. The coupling of the partial differential equations of axial and bending vibrations of the beam due to boundary conditions is considered. The frequency equation and the mode shape orthogonality condition of the system are derived. In order to illustrate the effect of the transverse and the axial eccentricity on the vibration behavior of the beam, a numerical example is provided.

AB - Intermodal freight transportation refers to a multi-modal chain of container-transportation services which usually links the initial shipper to the final consignee of the container (door-to-door service) and takes place over long distances. Container transportation is a major component of intermodal transportation and international commerce. Container flow should be optimal to ensure proper resource utilization and profitability to players. Various multi-objective evolutionary algorithms have been developed to efficiently solve optimization problems in container flows. This paper presents a short review of optimization problems in intermodal transport using sea and land legs together regarding three mostly observed objectives (transport cost, transit time and CO2 emissions).

AB - The paper defines "equal oscillatory comfort zones" as a novel concept in the sphere of the bus vertical dynamics. Oscillatory zones are determined using the original and validated oscillatory model of the intercity bus and comfort criteria according to the international ISO 2631/1997 standard requirements. The bus spatial oscillatory model with 65 degrees of freedom (DOF) was built in the ADAMS/View module of the multibody software package MSC.ADAMS. The model was excited by two different real road surfaces: poor asphalt-concrete and good asphalt-concrete pavements, registered at the speed of 64 km/h and 90 km/h respectively. It was found by simulation that oscillatory zones with different comfort assessments exist in the bus. The most comfortable oscillatory zone is in the middle part of the bus (between the front and the rear axle), whereas the least comfortable oscillatory zone is on the rear bus overhang. For the purpose of the ride comfort harmonization, using Design of Experiments (DOE) analysis, new oscillatory parameters are proposed for passenger seats which do not ensure satisfactory oscillatory comfort level. It is concluded that harmonization of oscillatory comfort for all bus passengers could be achieved for good asphalt-concrete excitation. For the poor road excitation it is possible to achieve significant improvement of comfort, especially for the assistant driver and passengers in the bus rear overhang. On a poor asphalt-concrete pavement, by using the proposed seat oscillatory parameters, the allowed exposure time for vertical whole body vibration would be considerably extended. Relevance to industry: Oscillatory comfort has a particular importance for users of intercity buses traveling longer distances. Comfort assessment of each bus user and mapping of comfort zones can indicate the individual seat and group of the seats on which the oscillatory comfort is reduced. Proper selection of seat oscillatory parameters can improve users comfort. Results of such an analysis can significantly help bus designers and manufacturers in order to improve and harmonize oscillatory comfort on the whole vehicle platform.

AB - Container transport represents a key component of intermodal transport and a substantial contribution to the rapidly growing international trade. The container trade should be optimal to provide a suitable resource utilisation and profitability to key operators, providing them an easy and relatively cheap access to international markets. Numerous algorithms have been generated to provide an efficient solution to optimisation problems in container trade. This paper analyses the supply-chain network focusing on container import from the Far East to Serbia through selected Mediterranean ports (Koper, Rijeka, Bar, Thessaloniki and Constanta). An optimisation mathematical model was developed, minimising the transit time and transportation costs of container imports to Serbia, by means of using various liner shipping services on the deep-short sea and truck-rail-barge inland transport networks from selected ports. By using the bi-objective model for container flows from the Far East through Mediterranean ports, the optimal path for container import to Serbia has been determined. Certain groups of customers require the lowest freight rates, while others give priority to a faster delivery.

AB - The paper analyzes the effects of vibrations on the comfort of intercity bus IK-301 users. Evaluation of vibration effects was carried out according to the criteria set out in the 1997 ISO 2631-1 standard for comfort in public means of transport. Comfort is determined for the space of a driver, passenger in the middle part of the bus and passenger in the rear overhang. Also, the allowable exposure time to vibrations in drivers for the reduced comfort criterion was determined according to the 1978 ISO 2631-1 standard. The bus spatial oscillatory model with ten degrees of freedom was developed for the needs of the analysis. Bus excitation was generated applying the Power Spectral Density of the asphalt-concrete road roughness, as described by the H. Braun model. The allowable vibration exposure time for the driver's body decreases as the spring stiffness of the driver's seat suspension system increases. Simulation was performed using the MATLAB software.
