AB - In the last decades, the field of fluid dynamics has evolved significantly thanks to the
development of experimental and measurement techniques (hot wire, LDA, PTV, PIV), as well as
the increasing computational capabilities and the improvement of available software and
methods, such as CFD. All these techniques generate enormous volumes of data. Extracting
valuable and useful information from them is often a time-consuming task, that could be aided by
Deep Learning (DL). Herein, some of the many possible applications of DL, in particular the
YOLO algorithm, in the practice of PIV, are considered and suggested.

AB - In the contemporary food processing industry,
there is a tendency to automatize sorting process along with
minimizing the waist. Therefore, the efforts to improve large –
capacity industrial systems for the sorting of agricultural
products are constant and go from various image processing
techniques towards the area of machine learning. Among deep
learning techniques, You Only Look Once (YOLO) algorithm
offers the potential of recognizing and determining the location
of noncompliant products. In this paper, the study that evaluates
the performance of YOLOv3 algorithm in sorting of raspberries
is represented, together with a logical solution model of a
centralized color sorting system and developed web application.

AB - Color sorting is a technological operation performed with the aim of classifying compliant and noncompliant agricultural products in large-capacity industrial systems for agricultural product processing. This paper investigates the application of the YOLOv3 algorithm on raspberry images as a method developed for the detection, localization, and classification of objects based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs). To our knowledge, this is the first time a YOLO algorithm or CNN has been used with original images from the color sorter to focus on agricultural products. Results of the F1 measure were in the 92–97% range. Images in full resolution, 1024 × 1024, produced an average detection time of 0.37 s. The impact of the hyperparameters that define the YOLOv3 model as well as the impact of the application of the chosen augmentative methods on the model are evaluated. The successful classification of stalks, which is particularly challenging due to their shape, small dimensions, and variations, was achieved. The presented model demonstrates the ability to classify noncompliant products into four classes, some of which are appropriate for reprocessing. The software, including a graphic interface that enables the real-time testing of machine learning algorithm, is developed and presented.

AB - Machine inspection is a mandatory technological process in industrial processing agriculture products. The camera detects color and shape based irregularities of the object resulting in a large number of parameters for decision-making and sorting product compliance. The goal was to discover a new criterion for decision-making using only the output signal of the RGB camera. Research employed the digital images of raspberries, blackberries, peas and yellow beans during real processing, obtained from a color sorter machine. The visual texture of the surface of the agricultural products was described via defined statistical indicators of color (color average value (Avg), standard deviation (Stdv), entropy (E), and lacunarity (L) was used from the sphere of image fractal analysis as one of the criteria. By applying the non-parametric tests: Wilcoxon signed rank and Friedman test, statistically significant difference was established for the L and Е criteria between compliant and non-compliant industrial products

AB - The uncertainty of three component laser Doppler anemometry (LDA), applied to investigation of the turbulent swirl flow in jet behind the axial fan is considered. The main sources of uncertainties are identified and estimated. They can be classified into two groups: one associated to single component velocity measurement, and the other, generated by LDA probes settings. Expressions for axial, radial and circumferential velocity component uncertainties are derived. They show that for velocity components that are not measured directly, but are calculated using transformation matrix (here axial and circumferential component), uncertainties depend on their ratio. For specific setting of LDA probes, uncertainty dependences on component value ratios are calculated. The results show that, for small velocity component ratio, impact of beam separation uncertainty and the uncertainty due to fringe distortion on measurement result is comparable to the impact of the uncertainty of angular positions of probes. The latter is remarkably dominant if the velocity component if the velocity component ratio is high, which is the case in some area of the here considered swirl flow. That indicates the importance of precise angular positioning in 3D LDA systems.

AB - Food processing industry is moving forward to a full automation of all processes, especially in technological line segments which represent critical control points of food safety. One of these points is color sorting by using machine vision, where inappropriate products are removed. Most important product appearance attributes are color and texture. During food processing, the product is captured by optical devices, mostly color cameras and lasers. The aim of this paper is to investigate new eligibility criteria for digital image segmentation by using only image from the camera. The goal is to describe the texture of the product, based on chosen mathematical measures, and to allow for recognition and then classification according to the predefined range of values in an appropriate class. Images of frozen raspberry were used. Image analysis of color parameters in RGB color space and statistical tests to examine normality of data were carried out. Thereafter, one-way Anova and correlation analysis was performed. Statistically significant difference was found for the values of two indicators: entropy and new criteria were derived from standard deviation, as well as mean values of pixels for every channel, and marked as L. After determining the range of these criteria, a new algorithm was developed for image segmentation written in Matlab. One of the results of applying this algorithm is that more than 80% of good products were recognized.

AB - Sainfoin seeds were irradiated by four different lasers (He-Ne laser, three semiconductor lasers of wavelengths 670 nm, 890 nm and of wavelength range 630-680 nm). Each group of seed was irradiated only once, using different exposure times: 1-, 2-, 3- and 4- minutes. The same procedure was applied before autumn (four months post-harvest) and spring sowing (eight months post-harvest). Laser bio-stimulation showed that the optimal operation of the laser was at 890 nm using 3- minutes exposure time in both sowing periods. Slightly weaker, but also significant (p >= 0.01) impact on improving germination was in case of laser of 890 nm using 2- and 4- minutes of exposure time, and 630-680 nm laser using 4- minutes exposure time in both sowing periods. In the spring sowing, only laser of 632.8 nm using 3- minutes exposure time and laser of 670 nm laser between 2- and 4- minutes exposure time had significant improvement of seed germination. In the autumn sowing, He-Ne lasers (632.8 nm) using 4-minutes exposure time, semiconductor lasers of 670 nm laser using 3- minutes exposure time, and 630-680 nm laser using 3-minutes exposure time, also significantly (p >= 0.01) increased seed germination compared to control.

AB - Finding the mode, in which two component laser Doppler velocimetry can be applied to flows confined in cylindrical tubes or vessels, was the aim of this study. We have identified principle issues that influence the propagation of laser beams in laser Doppler velocimetry system, applied to flow confined in cylindrical tube. Among them, the most important are influences of fluid and wall refractive indices, wall thickness and internal radius ratio and beam intersection angle. In analysis of the degrees of these influences, we have applied mathematical model, based on geometrical optics. The separation of measurement volumes, that measure different velocity components, has been recognized as the main drawback. To overcome this, we propose a lens with dual focal length primary focal length for the measurement of one velocity component and secondary focal length for the measurement of the other velocity component. We present here the procedure for calculating the optimal value of secondary focal length, depending on experimental set-up parameters. The mathematical simulation of the application of the dual focal length lens, for chosen cases presented here, confirmed the accuracy of the proposed procedure.

AB - Compared to manual inspection, which is inconsistent and subjective, sorters are able to assure product quality and food safety by more effectively identifying and removing defects and foreign material, while at the same time reducing labor costs and improving operating efficiencies. In this paper we analyzed color of the green beans in the way to find certain parameter which defined good color, acceptable for consumers because homogeneity and appearance have a significant impact on the consumer's decision and to see does and how different lighting effect on the color. The color recorded in the image is not an inherent value of observed object, because it is also influenced by the illumination properties (illuminance, spectral intensity distribution, color rendering index), as well as geometry and surfaces of neighboring objects. The CIE La*b* color space gave good results in a way that it define better the ranges of parameter a*.

Numerous studies have developed and investigated image processing procedures in color sorting machines, where as not many of them have considered the influence of illumination on numerical values related to the colors. In this paper, parameters related to the color of corn have been examined. In each image, the corn has been illuminated by one of four different types of light sources. And different luminous intensities of each type of light source have been applied. The processing of obtained images has been performed in MATLAB, and parameters of images in RGB, CIE L*a*b* and HSV color space have been analyzed. Further descriptive statistics analysis has been performed by IBM SPSS. The variations of parameters with the change of light intensity, showed no statistical significance. The change of the type of the light source has a significant impact on all analyzed features.

The improvement of component efficiency by the use of quantum generators, trimming and hybrid processes with nuclear radiation has been analyzed. The studied processes can be positive or negative depending on application. Besides the experimental approach to the processes and chosen interactions, the analytical description of our experiments, as well as ones from other references, has been performed. The contemporary couplings between the nuclear physics, laser techniques and respective dosimetric aspects have been considered.

AB - Transport tasks have radically changed in agriculture over the last decade. Speeds have
increased along with tractor power so that 50 km/h even with a full load is quickly reached,
which places more burdens on the brakes. Agricultural vehicles, especially those that can
travel over 40km/h, must be fitted with safe and efficient braking systems to reduce road safety
risks. Trailers being drawn must be the right size and weight for the vehicle drawing them and
they should also be able to cope with the speed of the towing vehicle. They must be well
maintained so that they don’t cause braking problems for the towing vehicle. In order to
address these issues, revised braking requirements will apply to all agricultural tractors and
their trailers (both new and existing) from 1 January 2016. They will also apply to equipment
such as slurry tankers, fertiliser or manure spreaders, grain chaser bins and so on.

AB - Among numerous methods of the modelling of laser interaction with the material equivalent of biological tissue (including macroscopic and microscopic cell interaction), the case of pathogenic prostates is chosen to be studied. The principal difference between the inorganic and tissue equivalent material is the term which includes blood flow. Thermal modelling is chosen for interaction mechanisms, i.e. bio-heat equation. It was noticed that the principal problems are in selecting appropriate numerical methods, available mathematical program packages and finding all exact parameters for performing the needed calculations. As principal parameters, among them density, heat conduction, and specific heat, there are many other parameters which depend on the chosen approach (there could be up to 20 parameters, among them coefficient of time scaling, arterial blood temperature, metabolic heat source, etc). The laser type, including its wavelength which defines the quantity of absorbed energy and dynamic of irradiation, presents the term which could be modulated for the chosen problem. In this study, the program Comsol Multiphysics 3.5 is used in the simulation of prostate exposed to Nd3+:YAG laser in its fundamental mode.

abstract = "Among numerous methods of the modelling of laser interaction with the material equivalent of biological tissue (including macroscopic and microscopic cell interaction), the case of pathogenic prostates is chosen to be studied. In this study, the program Comsol Multiphysics 3.5 is used in the simulation of prostate exposed to Nd3+:YAG laser in its fundamental mode.",

AB - The application of 2D laser Doppler anemometry systems is considered, in the case of fluid flow confined in simple cylindrical and in cylindrical tube with flat external surface of the wall. Geometric optics laws are applied to the central lines of laser beams. Measurement volume dislocations, calibration angles and distances of measurement volume centre from the photo-detector field of view centre are expressed. The expressions derived in this paper were applied to specific turbulent swirl flow in pipe. That revealed several advantages of use of a simple cylindrical tube over nowadays favored use of cylindrical tube with flat external surface. Those results suggest that current avoiding of laser Doppler anemometry measurements with simple cylindrical tubes should be reconsidered.

AB - Color of the food is the first parameter of quality evaluated by consumers. What is important is the acceptance of the product even before being consumed. Inspection of food products is done using machine vision, particularly analyzing and processing the images, where the parameters of each pixel on the surface of the recorded product must be known. Using different color spaces quantitative color value is obtained. Although there are many different color spaces, when it comes to food, the most frequently used is the CIE L*a*b* color space, due to its uniform color distribution and because its perception of color is closest to the one human eye. RGB color space, where a sensor in each pixel records the intensity of light in the red, green and blue spectrum, is also similar to human perception of colors and it is also frequently used. The problem with the L * a * b * scale is that commercial color-meters measure only a dozen of square centimetres of the product itself and the measurements are not representative for the most of heterogeneous materials. The aim of this paper is to present the analysis of images of chosen food products using the two color spaces. In each of the two color spaces, after determining the range of parameters appropriate to good quality products, the criteria for the discrimination of damaged products is defined and tested. The comparison of the applications of those criteria shows that, in the case of food, the transformation of RGB coordinates into the CIE L*a*b* color space makes it possible to achieve greater accuracy and improved calculation of appropriate color parameters.

AB - Laser-Doppler anemometry application in measurements of the 3-D swirl turbulent flow velocity in the cylindrical pipe, behind the axial fan, have been analysed. This paper presents a brief overview of uncertainty sources in the laser-Doppler anemometry measurements. Special attention is paid to estimation of laser-Doppler anemometry measuring volume positioning in cylindrical pipe flow due to optical aberrations, caused by the pipe wall curvature. The hypothesis, that in the central part of the pipe (r/R lt 0.6) exists a small, or negligible pipe wall influence on laser- -Doppler anemometry measuring position, is investigate. The required corrections, for measurements of axial, tangential, and radial velocity components such: shift of measuring volume and its orientation are analyzed and determined for used test rig and for some other pipe geometries.

AB - Many sources of uncertainties are inherent in LDA practices and must be recognized to obtain good experimental results. Analysis of uncertainty, for tests that include LDA measurements of velocity vectors in wind tunnels or in cylindrical pipe swirl flows is very complex problem. An overview of the most significant uncertainty sources in the LDA measurements is presented. One of the main groups of uncertainty sources is determined by the optical components arrangement. In this paper, special attention is paid to estimation of laser-Doppler anemometry uncertainty of measurement volume positioning in test devices caused by the wind and water tunnel windows thickness, or by the pipe wall curvature (without using refractive index matching). The required corrections, for measurements of velocity components such: shift of measuring volume and its orientation are analyzed and determined for VTI wind and water tunnels and for some very often used geometry of cylindrical pipes in industry. Depending on different experimental conditions, some of these sources of uncertainty may be neglected, but generally, it is necessary to take
into account all of them in all optical methods, as LDA, PDA, PIV and so on.

AB - The measurement of scattered light properties offers many optical, acoustic, dielectric, thermodynamic data about the scattering medium. Brillouin spectroscopy with various modifications and different laser types has been a measurement technique in acoustics for a long time, but it is still important as an autonomous technique. It enables more detailed and exhaustive knowledge of the acoustic and optical properties of matter. A series of Rayleigh-Brillouin spectra are recorded for a set of organic solvents and phytol. The equipment used in spectra recordings enables the measurement of four components of scattered laser intensity I-hh, I-hv, I-vv and I-vh. The ratios of the linewidth, as well as shifts, are determined for Rayleigh-Brillouin spectra. According to them, the hypersound velocity and absorption coefficients can be calculated. There is much software for data processing obtained in laser interaction with matter, with different programming tools. An analysis of spectra is performed, i.e. an examination of which distribution (Gaussian or Lorentzian) better explains the experimentally obtained diagrams.

AB - Retinopathy o Prematurity (ROP) is a leading cause of blindness in children. The ROP is a disease that occurs in premature infants and affects the blood vessels of the developing retina. The unique feature of ROP relates to its occurrence only in premature infants with immature and incompletely vascularized retina. We reduce the blindness from ROP by appropriate screening and effective diode laser treatment (diode red 810nm). Ocular fundus photos are performed as a part of ROP screening. During screening examination, the RerCam3, equipped with 130 degrees lens, is used to obtain the color images of both eyes. In all cases of active posterior ROP the laser treatment is performed. In those infants the fundus images are taken in sessions of laser treatment and it is repeated one or two weeks later. The goal of each imaging session is to obtain clear and focused images of all parts of the ocular fundus. The images are stored on the RetCam3computer hard drive.
This paper attempts to compare certain methods of quantifying results of several stages of the pathological eye conditions in clinical practice based on RetCam image records. The first image processing is related to application of color analysis by the program Matcad. It is scrutinized if the increased or decreased presence of certain color in an image of a full eye or specific parts of the eye indicates the degree/severity of the disease (pathological state). Another approach is the implementation of the program Image J. The third quantification belongs to fractional analysis where several approaches are executed related to the application of different filtrations. Herein it is addressed the analysis of concrete examples and analysis of different utility levels of processing technique. In particular, some issues of interaction of the three laser types with eye tissue in various operating modes (ex. Q-switched laser and others) are particularly discussed.

AB - Some current solutions and designs of devices and systems are analyzed, in this paper, concerning component and system dynamics and stability with aim to improve their design. Conventional solutions of non-optical type, that included fluid dynamics control, Pitot (Prandtl) tubes, etc., rely mainly on approximated hydrodynamics laws. For solid state dynamics, vibration control, laser vibrometers and seismometers have various designs. Many years ago, solutions aided with quantum generators - lasers, have been taken over a lot of tasks, creating that way laser metrology and diagnostics. On the other hand, quantum generator designers used experiences of various mechanical engineering disciplines. In this study, both theoretical and practical issues are considered and some results are presented. General approaches to laws considering critical phenomena and laws of similarity are also considered. .

AB - The experimental treatment of chosen material with laser beams, starting from continuous wave up to fs pulses, produces the necessity to find the common and sophisticated theoretical approaches to interaction modeling. For chosen materials, some laser treatment and damage analyses are performed. The provoked stresses and parameters of transport processes (penetration depth) are calculated by using the programs for electrical circuit analyses. Some inconsistencies in the treatment of large area laser-material interaction are discussed.
