AB  - Theoretical cycle analysis is an indispensable part of the refrigeration system and heat pump (HP) design. However, due to the simplicity of the calculations and numerous assumptions, there is a deviation from the actual behavior of the system. In this paper, a single-stage, reversible CO2 system, which can operate in both air-conditioning and heating mode, with and without an internal heat exchanger (IHX), was presented. In the heating mode, the deviation of the theoretical cycle from the actual cycle of the heat pump was analyzed, under various operating conditions. Actual cycles were formed based on the experimental investigation of this system. The changes of various parameters and deviations that are made due to a simpler calculation are presented.

AB  - This paper analyzes the operational characteristics of the Tuzla brewery refrigeration system after the installation of the Danfoss IPS8 air purging device. In order for an analysis such as this to be conducted correctly, one must understand where in the brewing industry the need for refrigeration occurs, how non-condensable gases are accumulated inside of the refrigeration system, and how the separation of non-condensable gases is done. After the theoretical part of the analysis, in which the thermodynamic basics of the ammonia refrigeration cycle is explained, an analysis of annual savings was conducted. The results of the analysis are presented in the form of annual savings in electricity consumption, for different operating conditions of the specific refrigeration system with and without a purger. At the end of this analysis, the amount of released non-condensable gases were also calculated.

AB  - The largest amount of energy in Serbia households is spent on heating needs. Therefore, the main idea of this paper is to compare the heating bills for a residential building in Belgrade using various energy sources. Electric boiler, gas-fired condensing boiler, and air-to-water heat pump are analyzed. For calculating expenses, the current electricity and gas rates in Serbia have been used. For selected cases, both primary energy use and CO2 emission have been compared.

AB  - The paper analyzed three generations of R744 systems: the basic booster system, the booster system with parallel compression, and the multi ejector system. The aim was to compare these systems from the point of view of efficiency and electricity consumption. The analysis is based on the model with two temperature levels of evaporators –30 °C and –10 °C, and with a total cooling capacity of 250 kW and 150 kW, respectively. The analysis was carried out for the climatic conditions of the city of Belgrade in the summer period when the greatest differences in operation are expected. The results showed that the next system generations achieve savings in electricity consumption for the considered period.

AB  - The use of carbon dioxide (CO2) refrigeration systems is increasingly present in modern supermarkets. Compared to conventional systems with freons, these systems use a natural and environmentally friendly refrigerant, but their energy efficiency is lower. However, with the advent of new technologies and better understanding of carbon dioxide, space has been created for system improvement and the introduction of new technical solutions. Also, one of the useful methods for improving the operation of the transcritical CO2 system is the determination of the optimum high side pressure in the gas cooler.
In this paper, two transcritical CO2 systems (1st generation) are presented, which represent a potential technical solution for the system that will be carried out in the Laboratory for Thermal Science at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Belgrade. In order to maintain the maximum coefficient of performance (COP) with optimum high side pressure, a thermodynamic analysis was carried out for one selected system. In addition to the influence of the ambient air temperature, the possible affecting parameters on  COP and optimum high side pressure was also considered. Finally, a proper control equation is given.

AB  - The effects of different freezing methods and long-term frozen storage on quality of strawberry and raspberry were investigated, that is, the retention of initial property and free radical scavenging (AO) activity after individual quick freezing (IQF) and conventional (discontinuous) freezing. The physicochemical properties, vitamin C, and AO activity were more affected by long-term frozen storage than by freezing itself; however, their better retention was obtained after IQF. Moreover, AO activity was found to be higher in frozen samples compared to fresh fruits, but significant decrease was detected after 8 months of frozen storage. Despite the significantly higher initial content of vitamin C in strawberry, it demonstrated a lower AO activity than raspberry. Sensory attributes were significantly affected by freezing; the most considerable changes were recorded on their texture/firmness, especially after conventional (slow) freezing. Frozen food industry is of crucial importance for developing countries, in which the fast freezing industry is rapidly developed. Investigation of the effect of industrial freezing and frozen storage on retention of the quality-related property and antioxidant activity is important for providing the best quality for consumers and health benefits, as well as international fruit trade. In addition, the results obtained in this study could provide best practice and guidance for the frozen fruit industry.

The physicochemical properties, vitamin C, and AO activity were more affected by long-term frozen storage than by freezing itself; however, their better retention was obtained after IQF. Moreover, AO activity was found to be higher in frozen samples compared to fresh fruits, but significant decrease was detected after 8 months of frozen storage. Despite the significantly higher initial content of vitamin C in strawberry, it demonstrated a lower AO activity than raspberry. Sensory attributes were significantly affected by freezing; the most considerable changes were recorded on their texture/firmness, especially after conventional (slow) freezing. AB  - Freezing is the method usually used for preserving delicate fruit, because the product tends to maintain its original attributes, i.e., keeping its nutritional properties as close as possible to those of fresh fruit. Strawberry is a widespread and highly demanded fruit, but the fresh fruits are available in a short period of time and the largest amount of strawberry is processed by freezing. The aim of the paper is to determine the effect of process of freezing in the industrial conditions, with precooling, on the relevant parameters of the strawberry quality.  The fruits were frozen in the conventional freezing tunnel by cold air temperature of –33 °C until reaching a temperature of –15 °C in the thermal center of the fruits. Packaged frozen fruits were stored in the chamber  at –18 °C. In order to determine the changes in strawberry quality, the content of dry matter, total sugars and acids, pH, vitamin C, and sensory quality characteristics were analyzed. Also, quality index of the fresh and frozen strawberry is determined by calculation. The obtained results showed that there were no significant changes in the physicochemical parameters of quality after the freezing of the strawberry fruits. Significant  changes are found in the sensory characteristics and the most remarkable is the loss of consistency and firmness of the frozen strawberry. Also, some modified color, taste and aroma of the strawberry fruit have been noticed after freezing in the industrial conditions.

AB  - The paper analyzes the influence of different parameters on the effective Coefficient of Performance (COP) of a ground source heat pump. Heat pump located in the Laboratory for Thermal Science Engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Belgrade is adopted for model.  Since the change in soil temperature more or less depends on the change in air temperature,  the average monthly air temperatures for the considered heating seasons 2014 ÷ 2018 were used in  the calculation. The model enables the analysis of various parameters on performance of heat pump,  such  as  the  change  of the  soil  temperature,  as well  as the  change  of  the return  water  temperature  from the heating system.

AB  - In order to establish a reliable procedure for estimation of heat transfer coefficient, experiments on plate finned tube heat exchangers have been conducted on five exchangers. Using own and previously published experimental data databank of 969 working regimes, a new correlation was formed. Correlation is based on hydraulic diameter and porous velocity and on the ratio of characteristic surfaces of the finned tube bundle. Statistical parameters of a new correlation for estimation of heat transfer coefficient are very good, and correlation covers a wide range of geometrical and other parameters of heat exchangers that are industrially important.

AB  - Посредством предложеног новог техничког решења омогућава се постављање спектрометријских сензора на платформу која се потом агрегатира и прикључује на трактор у три тачке помоћу његовог подизног механизма. Доње прикључне тачке платформе везане су за рамску конструкцију платформе помоћу четири завртањске везе и могуће је подешавање њиховог међусобног растојања у хоризонталном правцу. На крила платформе се може поставити различит број сензора. Могуће је подешавање размака између њих. Средње крило налази се на вертикалним вођицама, те се његовим вертикалним кретањем подешава растојање између сензора и усева. Два бочна крила платформе везана су зглобном везом за средње. У транспортном положају бочна крила се подижу вертикално, а у радном положају се спуштају у радни положај и имају распон 6410 mm.

AB  - On the hitherto installed chillers/rooftop units/dry coolers and air coolers, a significant improvement in cooling was noticed in the summer mode when the pipe bundle is sprayed with water. Tests have been performed on systems that produce water mist (micron-sized water droplets), which are formed by spraying water under high pressure through the nozzles/nozzle openings. When a drop of micron-sized water comes in contact with warm air, it evaporates very quickly, absorbing a certain amount of heat, which results in cooling the air. This improves the operation of the cooler in critical periods when the ambient air temperature is very high. The aim of the test is to determine the improvement of the cooler operation under operating conditions with the application of the described system in relation to the operating mode without water spraying (dry operating mode).

When a drop of micron-sized water comes in contact with warm air, it evaporates very quickly, absorbing a certain amount of heat, which results in cooling the air. This improves the operation of the cooler in critical periods when the ambient air temperature is very high. The aim of the test is to determine the improvement of the cooler operation under operating conditions with the application of the described system in relation to the operating mode without water spraying (dry operating mode).",

AB  - This paper deals with the procedure for measuring the relevant parameters of plate-finned tube heat exchangers operating as an air heaters. Besides the description of the experimental installation, the most important geometric characteristics of these appliances are given. In order to determine the relevant parameters for dry and wet regimes (for cases with and without spray cooling), experimental measurements of the heat and hydraulic performance of the heat exchangers were made. Water flowed through the pipes as a warmer fluid. During the experiments, the flow rates and temperatures of the working fluids were varied within the limits defined by the operating parameters of the installation itself, sufficient to allow the obtained results to be generalized. The experimental data were processed by appropriate statistical methods; the aim was to determine equations suitable for engineering practice. The coefficients of the air-side heat and mass transfer and friction factor are defined on the complex geometry of this type of heat exchangers under realistic operating conditions, as a function of the relevant similarity criteria.

AB  - The aim of this paper is a theoretical analysis of the operation of an air-to-water heat pump located in the Labo-ratory for Thermal Science at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Belgrade. This results provide the basis for further experimental analyzes of this installation.
The paper gives a comparative overview of the performance of a scroll and reciprocating compressor when pro-pane (R290) is used as a refrigerant. Also, the analysis of the influence of internal subcooling on the thermodynamic cycle is presented. Finally, according to the developed model of the heat pump performances investigation, the change in the average values of Coefficient of Performance (COP) during the average heating season, for the period 2014 – 2018, is shown.
AB  - Cilj ovog rada je sveobuhvatna teorijska analiza toplotne pumpe vazduh–voda koja se nalazi u Laboratoriji za termotehniku Mašinskog fakulteta u Beogradu. Ostvareni rezultati predstavljaju odličnu osnovu za eksperimentalna ispitivanja ove instalacije.
U radu je dat uporedni pregled performansi spiralnog (skrol) i klipnog kompresora kada se kao rashladni fluid u instalaciji toplotne pumpe koristi propan (R290). Takođe, urađene su analize uticaja unutrašnjeg prehlađivanja na termodinamički ciklus i analiza performansi toplotne pumpe na osnovu napravljenog modela. Na kraju, prikazana je promena vrednosti efektivnog koeficijenta grejanja (COP) za prosečnu grejnu sezonu, u periodu od 2014. do 2018. godine, na osnovu podataka Republičkog hidrometeorološkog zavoda Srbije.

AB  - The paper analyzes the electric energy consumption of three different refrigeration installations: cascade refrigeration system with R134a in the high-temperature circuit and CO2 in the low-temperature circuit, single-stage refrigeration system operating with R404A, and two-stage transcritical CO2 system. The indirect impact of the refrigeration system on global warming through electric energy consumption was examined.
Thermodynamic cycles of these installations have been described and models have been developed to analyze the electric energy consumption required to drive the compressor as the largest consumer, for the cooling capacity of the evaporator 5,7 kW at evaporation temperature -30 °C for meteorological 2017, in the city of Belgrade. As a basis for comparative analysis, the existing cascade refrigeration system, which is located in the Laboratory for Thermal Science at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Belgrade, was selected.

AB  - Thermoeconomic analysis of spiral heat exchanger is conducted. Different geometrical parameters, such as outer diameter, plate height, passage gap, etc. are used and varied in a wide range. Detailed thermal and total costs analyses were performed for two spiral heat exchanger with different process fluids (water and thermal oil) with temperature changes, while the wall temperature was kept constant (condensation). The results were shown graphically. It is determined that optimum values of number of entropy generation units correspond to minimum total annual cost. The optimal solution could be found in the recommended range of geometric sizes for defined inlet and outlet temperatures and process fluid-flow rate.

AB  - Previous researches have proved that newly introduced parameters such as void velocity and others can be successfully used for correlating the heat transfer and pressure drop parameters. In order to establish a reliable procedure for estimation of air pressure drop, experiments on plate finned tube heat exchangers have been conducted, as well as the extensive investigation of the open literature. Using own and previously published experimental data, new correlation for estimation of air pressure drop have been established, covering a wide range of parameters of industrial importance. New correlation is comprehensive and statistically superior to any other pressure drop correlation.

Using own and previously published experimental data, new correlation for estimation of air pressure drop have been established, covering a wide range of parameters of industrial importance. New correlation is comprehensive and statistically superior to any other pressure drop correlation.",

AB  - Prilikom rada hladnjaka vazduha – isparivača na temperaturama nižim od 0°C dolazi do stvaranja leda na njegovoj površini što smanjuje njegovu efikasnost. U industrijskim amonijačnim postrojenjima čest je slučaj da se pregrejana para sa potisa kompresora koristi kao medijum za otapanje (zbog česte upotrebe izraza topli gas u praksi i njegove
jednostavnosti, u nastavku će se koristiti taj termin). U radu je opisan nov pristup otapanja toplim gasom gde se koristi
njegova celokupna toplota promene faze tokom trajanja procesa otapanja. Na taj način dolazi do uštede energije, direktnim smanjenjem potrošnje toplog gasa (manja količina gasa se vraća na usis kompresora,) kao i skraćenja vremena
otapanja. Polazna tačka pri analizi uštede energije je često primenjivani način otapanja amonijačnih isparivača toplim
gasom, kontrolisanog pomoću ventila konstantnog pritiska (pritisno kontrolisano otapanje).Ovaj princip otapanja je da
se proces kontroliše preko pritiska koji vlada u isparivaču tokom otapanja, što ne dovodi do potpune kondenzacije
toplog gasa. U početku otapanja celokupan protok toplog gasa će se kondenzovati, ali kako proces teče sve će se manja
količina kondenzovati, i pred kraj imamo situaciju da je najveći deo protoka čini topli gas (tj. vlažna para, velikog stepena suvoće) koji bespotrebno opterećuje kompresor. Kod otapanja sa potpunom kondenzacijom, proces se ne kontroli-
še preko pritiska na već preko stanja gasa na samom izlazu iz isparivača, to jest dozvoljava se da samo tečna faza
toplog gasa napusti isparivač. Ovo uzrokuje da kompresor relativno malu količinu gasa (nastalu ekspanzijom tečnosti
sa pritiska otapanja na usisni pritisak kompresora) treba ponovo da komprimuje i to umnogome manju ne samo u odnosu na pritisno otapanje već i u odnosu na protok kada je isparivač u režimu hlađenja. Na istom isparivaču i pri istim
uslovima rada, mereni su i upoređeni rezultati rada u obe metode otapanja kako bi se dobio merodavan zaključak.
Analizom merenih podataka vidi se da je protok toplog gasa manji kod nove metode otapanja kao i da je vreme otapanja skraćeno.

AB  - Last few decades energy consumption in buildings increases. With a higher population and bigger requirements for comfort, energy needs grow exponentially. Concerning dispensation of the reserves of many energy fuels and energy ineffective work of HVAC systems, their optimization must be done. In such optimization, particular care should be taken not to damage thermal comfort.
In order to promote the improvement of energy efficiency in buildings, for example, the Safe House building in Belgrade was taken. A system of hot-water heating with radiators and a heat pump as an efficient source of heat is designed. Afterward, the energy performances of the building were determined and an analysis of the energy consumption and CO2 emissions was carried out for the implemented system.

After the field measurements have been conducted, simple but unambiguous procedure has been used to establish heat performance parameters including the heat duty and fouling factor. Advantage of hereby presented method is that it can be used for analysis of any other similar heat transfer equipment.

AB  - This paper deals with heat exchangers having plain finned tubes in staggered (triangular) pattern. The objective of this paper is to provide the heat transfer and friction factor correlation which can be used in engineering practice. For this purpose, the experimental data of several (most cited) authors who deal with this type of heat exchangers are used. The new correlations are established to predict the air-side heat transfer coefficient and friction factor as a function of the Reynolds number and geometric variables of the heat exchanger - tube diameter, tube pitch, fin spacing, tube rows, etc. In those correlations the characteristic dimension in Reynolds number is calculated by using the new parameter - volumetric porosity. Also, there are given the errors of those correlations.

AB  - An analysis of the absorption refrigeration system with a solution of LiBr -water as the working  fluid driven by solar energy is presented in this paper. There are given the physi cal and  mathematical models of the refrigeration system including two different types of solar collectors  -  vacuum and flat plate. Calculations of the dynamic characteristics of the system for July of the  typical meteorological year for Belgrade are carried out and some of the most important technical  and energy parameters are analyzed. It is shown that the application of the vacuum collectors  provides many advantages over flat plate collectors.

AB  - The objective of this paper is emphasizing the importance of maintaining the cooling systems from
the perspective of exploitation safety. The comparative analysis of the natural and synthetic refrigerants is
made. An overview of the location of possible operation problems is given. There are cited the most
common mistakes of industrial cooling installations that hinder maintenance and lead to incidents followed
by leaking in the exploitation conditions. The accent is put on parts of refrigeration installations at high
pressure in specific periods of operating (evaporator defrosting). Special attention should be paid on
monitoring of leaking in liquid lines (especially with over-flooded systems). Finally, the routes and
suggestions for better maintenance and safety improvements are given.
