AB - In recent years, Additive Manufacturing (AM) has become an increasingly popular method in industrial
applications for fabricating components with complex geometries, offering several benefits over traditional
(subtractive) manufacturing methods. Among all available AM technologies, ‘‘vat photopolymerization’’ is still
a reliable approach for manufacturing high-resolution components at relatively small costs. This particular
AM technology is based on the photopolymerization process where 3D objects are created by light-induced
solidification and it has been broadly developed and used in the past decades. Depending on the employed
light source there are three different subtypes of this technology, namely: SLA, DLP, and mSLA. Among all
three listed, the Masked Stereolithography Apparatus (mSLA) technology has emerged as a promising approach
due to the much simpler AM machine construction compared to the other two. However, the mechanical
properties of mSLA components have not been studied extensively, hence there is a lack of knowledge of
how AM process parameters and post-processing treatments affect the final mechanical properties of mSLA
components. This work presents an experimental investigation of the compressive and flexural mechanical
responses of components produced through this relatively new AM technology. A series of static and cyclic
tests were conducted with varying layer thickness and post-curing times. It is demonstrated that a thorough
optimization of the mentioned variables is required to obtain parts with the desired mechanical properties.

AB - Failure analysis of welded joint with multiple defects was performed taking into account the effect of all defects, not just a dominant one. Four cases of multiple defects in welded joint under the uniaxial tensile loading were investigated using extended Finite Element Method. Two-dimensional Finite Element Models were made according to the tensile specimens with initial crack located in a critical area of welded joint. For each multiple defects case, numerical simulation was performed with three initial crack depth. Engineering Critical Analysis was made using Failure Assessment Diagrams for each defect that was determined as critical for its welded joint case. Numerical simulation showed that the geometry of the most prominent one from a point of view of structural integrity. It was concluded that the vertical misalignment in combination with a secondary defect, had the most adverse effect which can lead to failure of welded structure.

AB - The performance of thermo insulation rendering mortars with alternations in ratios
of powdered cordierite and talc was examined. The goal was to confirm that recycled
kilnware cordierite can be reapplied in the mortar design without significant deterioration in
performance in comparison with OPC mortar. Differential thermal analysis was employed for
examining thermally induced reactions. The ca vitation erosion, in testing sequences ranging
from 30 to 120 minutes, was used to assess the compa ctness of the mortar structure. The
physico mechanical properties of experimental mortars were investigated. The morphologies
of the mortar tablets upon cavi tation were studied using a scanning electron microscope. It
was established that cordierite and talc filler in amounts up to 20% enhance microstructural
packing and mechanical strengths due to improved cementation and therefore contribute to
cavitation er osion resistance. Hig her amounts of talc cause structural degradation and mass
loss during cavitation tests. Reducing manufacturing costs, energy consumption, and
greenhouse gas emissions are the main objectives of t he production of this waste based
constr uction composite, as the reuse of waste materials can help achieve a number of

AB - This paper deals with damage analysis of gear ring after manufacturing process, just before in-service period. Tooth gear ring segments were made of 40MnCrSi3V low-alloyed cast steel, which chemical composition and mechanical properties were given in table 1 and 2, respectively. Concerning parent material characteristics, in this case low-alloyed cast steel 40 MnCrSi3V, inspection and control of gear segments were necessary to be performed after manufacturing. Non-destructive testing method with magnet particles (MT) of fluorescent suspension of particle size 3 µm was performed for potential defects detection. Surface indications were observed on 8 out of 12 gear segments on these new parts, where the lengths of the cracks goes up to 110 mm. Some of the observed defects were shown in Fig. 1. Defects were located in segments main body the gear teeth, its main body etc. Taking into account aforementioned, observed defects on new gear ring segments were caused in manufacturing process i.e. by casting process and inadequate cooling rate.

AB - This paper is based on extensive research about the influence of multiple different welded joint defects on the integrity of welded structures. In this particular case, the focus was on the heat affected zone and its different sub regions - up to this point, it was observed as a whole, with homogeneous mechanical properties along its cross-section. Due to the need to describe its behaviour in more detail, it was concluded that metallographic characterisation of the heat affected zone is necessary. Metallographic tests have provided a detailed insight into the micro-structures with the heat affected zone, which would be difficult to predict in this case, due to specific conditions, i.e., a welding technology which was adopted with the purpose of deliberately causing a number of defects in the welded joint. This would result in a more realistic distribution of mechanical properties along the heat affected zone, which in turn would provide more accurate input data for numerical simulations, since the use of finite element method will be the next step in this research.

AB - Fatigue cracks growth in three different wing spar geometries is simulated using xFEM, as the most suitable numerical method for this purpose. The goal of this analysis was to find out how crack paths affect number of cycles, i.e. fatigue life, so that the optimal geometry can be defined. The extended finite element method was applied using Morfeo/Crack for Abaqus software. Results provided better understanding and prediction of multiple cracks propagation in complex 3D structures and provided data for the optimal design of wing spar.

abstract = "Fatigue cracks growth in three different wing spar geometries is simulated using xFEM, as the most suitable numerical method for this purpose. The goal of this analysis was to find out how crack paths affect number of cycles, i.e. fatigue life, so that the optimal geometry can be defined. The extended finite element method was applied using Morfeo/Crack for Abaqus software. Results provided better understanding and prediction of multiple cracks propagation in complex 3D structures and provided data for the optimal design of wing spar.",

AB - This paper deals with research and analysis of energy efficiency in electric vehicles. In the
context of the increasing popularity of electric vehicles as a viable alternative to traditional internal
combustion vehicles, it becomes crucial to understand and improve their efficiency Factors affecting efficiency are considered, including aerodynamics, vehicle mass, electric drive and battery efficiency, as well as the influence of external factors such as route driving and speed. The research
results were then analyzed in order to determine the key factors that can increase the efficiency of
electric vehicles, such as optimizing aerodynamics, reducing vehicle mass and recovering braking
energy, which can significantly improve energy efficiency. Different ways of optimizing the electric
drive and batteries were also investigated in order to reduce energy loss during driving.

AB - This article aims to investigate the mechanical characteristics of specimens fabricated using Selective Laser Sintering technology. The research covers flexural specimens, produced by PA12 materials. CAD model dimensions were selected according to the ISO 178 standard, and the chosen specimen geometry is 96 x 8 x 4 [mm] in bulk. All specimens were produced using a specialized machine Fuse 1 (FormLabs, Summerville, MA). Four specimen batches were produced, each with a different printing orientation (i.e. vertical and horizontal) and location on the printing plate (i.e. in the middle and on the edge of the powder bed). The specimens are tested using a Shimadzu universal machine for testing the mechanical characteristics of materials, AGS-X 100 kN, with a unique additional tool for testing 3-point bending specimens.

AB - The analysis of pressure changes in water and steam flow along the entire once-through steam boiler tube system at the 650 MWe lignite fired Unit was carried out after the long operational period of almost 30 years without a chemical cleaning of the pipe system. A significant increase of the hydraulic resistance was recorded in comparison to the design values in the evaporator tubes, both in the water heating zone and in the evaporation zone with the two-phase mixture flow. The cause of this adverse effect is the formation of a wavy surface of the magnetite layer deposited on the inner wall of tubes. The significantly increased absolute roughness on the inner wall of tubes was determined on the basis of measured pressure drops at sections of the tube system and numerical calculation performed with a thermal-hydraulic model of single-phase and two-phase water and steam tube flows. The model is based on the steam-water two-fluid model with mass, momentum and energy balance equations and mechanistic correlations for the steam-water interface transfer processes. The model is suitable for the single and two-phase flow parameters prediction in the span from subcritical to supercritical and near critical pressure conditions. Conducted calculations provide detailed insight in the fluid pressure, velocity and temperature change in the boiler tube system. After the long operational period the pressure drop in evaporating tubes almost doubles in comparison to the design values. The presented results are a support to boiler's design, operational procedures and maintenance.

AB - Seismic actions cannot be predicted in time, location or intensity. Serious earthquake actions can cause the occurrence of different levels of damage of the elements and the structure as a whole, which can even lead to their collapse. The methods for evaluation of seismic performance of structures are discussed in this paper and the focus of the paper is on reinforced concrete (RC) buildings. Building structures are designed and built according to different standards that were valid at the time of their construction. Those standards were, more or less, less demanding than the current European, American and other modern standards. Criteria for the determination of damage degree are discussed in the paper. Review and comparison of international Code provisions related to this topic are discussed as well. Fragility analysis of existing buildings with different structural systems is a rational approach, based on the application of probabilistic methods. They are applied in order to determine and predict the structural performance and probable levels of damage. The classification of damage level and residual bearing capacity is essential after strong earthquake. This is necessary in order to decide the appropriate interventions, such as shoring and others. They are evaluated based on the condition of structures, considering: residual deformations, cracks, crush of concrete and so on. The methods of nonlinear analyses are used in order to determine the structural response and the results of the analysis are used for the fragility assessment. Post-earthquake assessment and analysis of seismic performance are analysed.

AB - The main subject of this manuscript is mountain streams used by construction of small hydro power plants. The motivation for this research stemmed from a number of conflicting opinions about the justification of the construction of small hydropower plants and their facilities. This research encompasses different methods for the analysis of the justification of the construction of a small hydropower plant, starting from tradition in correlation with water mills, through a techno-economic approach to a complex multi-criteria research model. All methods are represented by objective formulas. World experiences are also presented, through the level of potential utilization, compared to the degree of development. The possible positive and negative impacts of the construction of such facilities for the exploitation of the potential of small watercourses were analyzed. After the conducted research, and with respect to the principle of minimum energy, which has become the paradigm of modern civilization, it can be concluded that using the potential of small watercourses by building small hydropower plants belongs to the domain of using renewable energy sources and that it is a function of sustainable development. Decision makers are recommended to exclusively apply a multi-criteria methodology, which can holistically include all technical, economic, environmental, social and other non-profitable but important impacts.

development. Sustainability is necessary to be obtained in the education process in civil
engineering too. The results created within educational institutions have a long term
impact on society development. Civil engineering is important branch of economic
development. A knowledge base derived from the experience of built facilities creates
significant competitive advantage on the market. From the other side the benefits for the
whole society, created by knowledge, are available during the complete life cycle of
constructed object. If knowledge is concerned as one of sources of value in civil
engineering then its continuous improvement and development in civil engineering
projects is imperative of vital importance. The main goal of this manuscript is to present
the aspects of skills and knowledge acquisition and their improvement of civil and related
professions. The goal was also to develop methodology for efficient problem solving in
civil engineering and science and also to find the effective approach in sustainable
utilization of available resources, as the first condition for advances in science and

simulate on the most adequate way all the conditions and restrictions, requirements and
conflicting interests of one energy system. The main goal of the optimization of one energy
system is to find an optimal operation mode at the present stage, and to research possible
future optimal installation from the aspect of cost and sustainability, considering technical
and economical criteria, as well as emission and other environmental criteria. Different
scenarios of introducing renewable power plant in a whole energy system of one country
are developed. Evolutionary multiple objective genetic algorithms are applied. The results
of such artificial intelligence model show the maximal economy, technical and
environmental effects of introducing higher capacities of renewable resources in a system.

AB - SLS technology has become popular in various industries due to its ability to produce
complex components with less effort than traditional methods. The study used PA 12, a
commonly used material in SLS printing, to create three types of specimens that were tested
for their mechanical characteristics. The specimens were designed based on ISO standards
(i.e. ISO 178, ISO 527-2, ISO 604) and printed on the Fuse 1 (FormLabs, Summerville, MA)
3D printer in four batches. These batches differed according to the printing orientation (i.e.
horizontal and vertical) and the printing location (i.e. in the middle and on the edge of the
powder bed). The printed specimens were then tested on subjected to a standard tensile
testing machine (SHIMADZU AGS-X 100kN).
The study found that the specimens printed according to ISO 178 standard vertically in the
middle of the powder bed had the smallest deviations in mechanical characteristics. On the
other hand, the specimens printed based on ISO 604 standard had the biggest deviations.
These findings suggest that the printing orientation and location on the powder bed can affect
the mechanical properties of SLS-printed components

These findings suggest that the printing orientation and location on the powder bed can affect
the mechanical properties of SLS-printed components",

AB - Selective laser sintering (SLS) is one of the additive manufacturing technologies dedicated to the production of high-quality parts with complex geometries. Here, polyamide 12 (PA12) is a commonly used material, for manufacturing parts with sufficient mechanical and thermal properties. In SLS, many manufacturing parameters have an effect on the mechanical properties of final parts. Even the decision regarding the orientation of a part in a powder bed may have a significant effect on the mechanical properties. In this research, the influence of horizontal (H) and vertical (V) printing orientations on the ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of fabricated PA12 specimens are examined. Our research findings show that H specimens exhibit larger deformations and smaller UTS value scatter in comparison with V specimens. Also, worth pointing out is the fact that V-oriented specimens have a higher elastic modulus. One can assume that the sintering process is more effective in V specimens, due to a more uniform laser beam trajectory than in the H specimens' case.

AB - This paper deals with investigations of mechanisms governing explosive boiling of water films on hot copper substrate with plain surface. The investigations are based on results of molecular dynamics (MD) simulations in which film thickness (7.5 nm, 17 nm and 25.5 nm) and substrate temperature (800 K, 700 K and 600 K) are set as parameters. Analyses of heating transients, which lead to explosive boiling event, are done comparing the following quantities for considered MD configurations: time instant of explosive boiling onset, dynamics of vapour generation, increase of water film thickness due to thermal expansion and vapour generation, evolution of water temperature as well as heat transfer from the copper substrate to the water film. These analyses have shown that explosive boiling onset is related neither to the value of substrate temperature nor to the film thickness in a straightforward way. The investigations of temperature and per atom energy in the water region near the heating substrate surface have revealed that beside thermal also mechanical mechanisms can play significant role in triggering of explosive boiling. The mechanical mechanisms, related to pressure wave propagation in liquid film, comprise occurrence of tensile stresses which induce / intensify generation of vapour phase in the near wall region. The obtained results show that thermal effects are dominant in cases with high substrate temperature and thick liquid films as in these configurations the water temperature reaches spinodal value and explosive boiling is triggered before expansion wave reaches the near wall region. In cases when water in the near wall region is strongly overheated (but well below spinodal temperature), tensile stresses induced by expansive wave propagation cause intensive vapour generation and contribute dominantly to occurrence of explosive boiling. Finally, in cases with lower substrate temperature and thin liquid films, an interplay of thermal and mechanical mechanisms leads to explosive boiling. Beside these, the disjoining pressure seems to play a role in cases with thin liquid films.

AB - Building Information Modeling (BIM) technologies have recently reached a high level of organization and are largely based on international standards that regulate both the structures of information models and the processes of their creation and management. Numerous data formats have been developed that enable automatic checking of model quality. However, the entire development so far treats information only as a highly structured collection of data.
If we take into account that information implies communication and that information does not exist without the receiving party, we will understand that all existing BIM models represent only a source of information, and that the information itself is created based on the needs of the recipient. The current solution for determining what information is needed by those using BIM models are information requirements. Up until now, they were realized as classic documents, now they get a formalized form that is computer interpretable in the form of the Information Delivery Specification standard. The format enables specification of four prerequisites (why, when, who and how) that are specified by Level of Information Need standard as the way to ensure relevance of BIM information.
The paper explores ways of providing greater support for the needs of information recipients, which would enable more successful use of complex BIM models and enable obtaining relevant information in the process of daily use of BIM models for real events in the building during its construction or use.

AB - Highway bridges in seismically active regions are often subjected to multiple earthquakes, including multiple main shocks during their service. Repeated seismic events result in reduced structural capacity and may lead to bridge collapse, causing disruption in the normal service. Serious earthquake events cause damage of the elements, with different damage level, even causing them to collapse. It is very important to save the damaged or weakened structures by emergency supporting or/and later strengthening, and to perform rehabilitation of their seismic resistance. The methods of evaluation of seismic resistance of damaged elements and structures are discussed in this paper. After evaluation of the damage degree and determination of the required demands and available seismic resistance of structures, redesign must be performed. Also, the method of rehabilitation of the elements and entire damaged bridge structures are analysed, including both traditional and advanced techniques. The focus of this paper is on reinforced concrete (RC) bridges. Post-earthquake assessment and analysis of the seismic performance of the bridges are analysed. Review and comparison of the international Code provisions related to topic are discussed as well. Criteria for the choice of structural interventions are discussed, as well.

AB - In this paper, the seismic response of a three 5 story reinforced concrete (RC) frame system buildings is analysed through the fragility and vulnerability analyses. The constructions are designed in accordance with the structural Eurocodes. All three buildings have the same area, but different shape in the base. For the analysis of the response of structural system to the earthquake actions, the method of nonlinear static (NSA) analysis was applied and based on the obtained results, fragility probability density functions and vulnerability curves were constructed using statistical methods. Structural damage state threshold parameters are determined based on the methodologies described in RISK-UE project. Comparative analysis of the structural damage probability for the three analysed RC buildings is applied in both main directions and as the whole as well. Based on the analysis results, final remarks and conclusions were formulated.
