AB - The paper presents an analytical model for travel time evaluation in double-deep, triple-deep, quadruple-deep and fivefold-deep tier-captive shuttle-based storage and retrieval system (SBS/RS). Under the assumption of the deepest location rule for the storage process and the nearest neighbour rule for the retrieval process, the expressions for single-command and dual-command cycle times of the shuttle vehicle and elevator are developed, from which the SBS/RS performance can be estimated. The model based on the probability theory enables the evaluation of all individual times that make up the cycle times and assessment of the average number of totes relocated during a retrieval process. Special attention is devoted to the modelling of the relocation of totes which block access to the requested tote during the retrieval process. The validity of the analytical model is examined via the developed simulation model. The given case study shows that the proposed analytical travel time model results match the results of the simulation model. The presented modelling strategy could be applied to bigger system racking depths following the same modelling logic.

AB - Purpose – The paper undertakes a bibliometric analysis and assessment of journal publications in the field of
container terminal operations research (CTOR), in an attempt to identify high-impact papers (HIPs) published in
Science Citation Index/Social Science Citation Index (SCI/SSCI) journals ofCTORsubject category from1973 to 2020.
Design/methodology/approach –Astructured approach for identifying the HIPs is developed based on the
utilization of bibliometric and network analyses.
Findings – The CTOR papers are assessed in terms of publication outputs, distribution of outputs in SCI/SSCI
journals, authorship, institutions and countries, as well as citation life cycles of papers with the highest total
citations since their publication until the year 2020. The results show that between 1989 and 2015, there were 82
HIPs in the field of CTOR, which have been cited at least 200 times, with more than 50% of these citations
allocated in the second part of paper citation life cycle according to the database of Google Scholar.
Practical implications – The practical implication of the aforementioned reviewing and assessing journal
publications of CTOR is that it offers the ability to reveal the tone of its development through addressing main
characteristics of the relevant HIPs as determined by the highly cited papers in this field of research.
Originality/value – This paper offers a unique analysis and assessment in the field of CTOR by identifying
the relevant HIPs and their associated scientific actors (authors, institutions and countries), thus facilitating the
future research effort in the field of CTOR.

AB - A numerical analysis of welded connection between two steel structures is performed with the usage of the finite element approach. A frame stage‐like structure is placed between the main horizontal girders of the structure of the hall. A visual inspection of the frame revealed numerous irregularities of welds which brought demand for redesign and overall check. The emphasis in this paper is comparative calculation of initial and redesigned welded end‐joints, without imposing the optimal technical solution. It is used modern and particular finite element software for calculation of welded joints. The values of stresses in the welded joint as well in plates and members are lower than the permitted values for both models. However, the influence on the main structure is reduced with redesigned technical solution. The level of stresses is lower along with reduction of rotational stiffness of the joint. This can be considered as a relief to the main girders of the hall structure and should be a cost and a goal for supporting any additional structure.

AB - The paper deals with strength of load-carrying fillet welds with application of two different approaches. First one is calculation by classical/scholar approach while second one is devoted to finite element analysis. The classical approach is concerned with national and European engineering practice. The finite element approach includes the application of particular tool which preserves main recommendations from modern postulations in design of joints. The object of interest is welded beam-to-column joint with different structural elements and the stresses are obtained for two models. It is investigated correlation of results of weld stresses from both the approaches. Direct matching of results was neither expected nor found but basic correlation is revealed within the joint behaviour under loadings. Considering finite element approach as prevailing, its advantage is clearly shown throughout inclusion of local effects of plates. However, classical approach is essential for proper understanding of joint behaviour and should be always the first step in structural analysis. The usage of at least two different approaches is one way of improving safety checks in engineering and stands for purpose of validation or verification of design.

The roots of conveyor systems and principles of operation go back to the ancient times, with a first trace of primitive belt conveyor found in the beginning of the 17th century. The early belt conveyors can be found in the late 18th century due to the invention of Oliver Evans in USA and in the 19th century, by Lyster in England and Lopatine in Russia. The first modern solution of the heavy-duty belt conveyor was proposed by Thomas Robins in the last decade of the 19th century, with the basic principles of operation which remain unchanged up to now.

AB - This paper gives survey on up-to-date studies which deal with numerical simulations of bolted end-plate moment connections. The selection is performed with the aim to cover different design concepts which reflect the problem of joint behaviour in general. Main characteristics of joint design and corresponding analysis features are presented in tabular form intended to serve as guidance for appropriate modelling of bolted
end-plate connections. Consequently, the procedure for conducting numerical simulation in proper mode is proposed by authors. An illustrative example-case study of analysis of a extended stiffened end-plate bolted beam-to-column joint is shown. The design case is modelled with two finite element software packages which have different approaches and levels of complexity. Finally, the analytical calculation of this joint is done according to Eurocode 3 with the aim of validation. The moment-rotation curve, as a basis in this field, is obtained for each model. The results from numerical simulations with both the approaches are in good correlation. Basic characteristics of two mentioned design approaches are also explained as an orientation for engineers and reserchers in this field.

AB - The paper presents M^X / M / c batch queues in which the group size is
given by the shifted-Poisson and Poisson-like distributions. This queue
model deduced the expressions for the specific cost ratio involving the
state probabilities, the utilization factor, the mean and the variance of the
group size. Proposed model discusses the total queuing system costs of
container at container yard (CY) and specific cost ratio to improve the best
values for container performances at CY. The analytical approach make
the model appropriate to analyze. The special cases can be solved exactly,
which is shown in another paper dealing with the application of this
methodological approach.

given by the shifted-Poisson and Poisson-like distributions. This queue
model deduced the expressions for the specific cost ratio involving the
state probabilities, the utilization factor, the mean and the variance of the
group size. Proposed model discusses the total queuing system costs of
container at container yard (CY) and specific cost ratio to improve the best
values for container performances at CY. The analytical approach make
the model appropriate to analyze. The special cases can be solved exactly,
which is shown in another paper dealing with the application of this
methodological approach.",

Container Yard (CY) as an Operational System based on a particular
batch arrival multi-server M^X / M / c queue described and analysed in
[4], where the batch size ( X ) has the shifted-Poisson and Poisson-like
distributions. Using a more general formula for such queue models, here
it is deduced the expressions for the specific cost ratio involving the state
probabilities, the utilization factor, the mean and the variance of the group
size. Applying this expression, the various results are presented when the
number of yard cranes at container yard in port is 1, 2 or 3.

AB - Stackers are one of the vital parts of the system that work on the exploitation of coal in open-pit mines. During their exploitation life, they are exposed to hard working conditions in which dynamic and stochastic loads act on them. Therefore, the analysis of their dynamic behavior is necessary in order to prevent failures and ensure a longer working life. Given that the structure of the stackers is a dominantly spatial truss structure, the paper presents the procedure of forming a spatial reduced dynamic model of the stacker superstructure and analysis of the influence of the eccentricity of the discharge boom tension pulley created during the production process. The results are given through the displacements and accelerations of the referent points of the structure. The quantification of the eccentricity influence from the aspect of the dynamic behaviour of the machine is presented and discussed.

lifting device for lifting unit loads. This particular auxiliary lifting device
has extraordinary design. It is a device with a relatively large lifting
capacity, mechanism for span adjusting and mechanism for rotation
around vertical axis ± 360°. The final design solution has passed through
several modifications. The first design solution had capability of rotating
around vertical axis but the span could be adjusted manually by placing
hooking elements into predefined places along the span of the auxiliary
lifting device. The second design solution represented a mechanized
version of the first design solution in which the span adjustment was
performed mechanized using an electric motor. Further iterations in the
design sustained minor changes and adjustments. The final design solution
was produced and tested in operation.

is examined here in a historical perspective. For this purpose, the selected period is from
the ancient time, i.e. occurrence of conveying equipment, and up to the end of the nineteenth
century. The basic postulation of a modern machine, including conveyors, is often
interlinked to that of its ancestor, which may be simple and primitive. Ancient machines
and principles of their work were the basis for later improvements which also brought the
inventions in engineering. For instance, Archimedes lifted water to high altitude with a
screw, which was regarded as the ancestor of today’s screw conveyor and essentially his
design has not changed since then. Bucket elevators also have their predecessors dating
back to ancient times. In the concrete case of belt conveyors, a first trace can be found in
the beginning of the seventeenth century, even classified as primitive example. During the
Industrial Revolutions, various machines, such conveyors, appeared. The first modern-like
belt conveyors are dedicated to the late eighteenth century due to the invention of Oliver
Evans in USA and to the nineteenth century, by Lyster in England, Lopatine in Russia and
Thomas Robins in USA. The technical solutions developed by the end of the nineteenth
century were forerunners of the today’s belt conveyors, while the key operational principles
have not changed.

AB - The paper deals with the mathematical modelling of the dynamic behavior of the structure of the ship unloader. It is given the procedure for formulation of the reduced dynamic model which retains the main aspects of the behavior of the structure and yet is simple enough to be performed with standard engineering tools. The approach is applied on the real bridge-type grab ship unloader but can also be used on similar complex structures. Initially, the complete structure is modelled with finite element software where the natural frequencies were obtained. This 3D model is reduced to an equivalent plane model of the sea-side part of the boom. The postulation of the analytical approach is based on the model of a simple beam with an overhang where dynamic analysis is concerned with the Rayleigh Ritz method for estimating the adopted admissible functions. The results of the modal analysis of the reduced mathematical model showed a small difference from the results of finite element analysis which stands for the verification of the presented approach.

AB - The analysis of behaviour of extended one-sided stiffened bolted end-plate moment connection is revisited here. On the basis of experimental tests, the behaviour of beam-to-column joint with and without stiffener is investigated. The stress distribution and deformation characteristics were determined and discussed with corresponding results of finite element analysis of joint behaviour. Furthermore, the extensive finite element simulations were carried out and the obtained results are discussed in this paper. The main analyzed parameters are the geometrical characteristics of the plates added to the beam-to-column joint. Their influence on joint resistance and stiffness is observed including the possibility of material cost optimization. Overall, the comparison of used approaches confirms their conjoint importance except for the postulation where the stiffener is assumed to behave as a strut in the joint. Also, there are some practical recommendations in design which can be used by engineers.

AB - Tie-rods of the bucket wheel and counterweight booms are vital parts of the bucket wheel excavator slewing superstructure. This paper is dedicated to the problem of identifying the stress state of the critical cross-section ('net section') of the eye plates on these tie-rods. It presents the results of the experimental and numerical investigations carried out on the eyebar model. The results show the appearance of a plastic deformation in the zone near the contour of the hole even when the eye is subjected to the loads within the range of the permissible loads prescribed by the standard DIN 22261-2. Plastification in the eye net section occurs across the full thickness of the plate, but it does not jeopardize the integrity of the structure. The stress value in the eye net section, calculated in accordance with the standard DIN 22261-2, is significantly lower than the actual stress values around the hole and serves only as a comparative value for the static strength proof for the eye.

AB - The end-plate bolted connections are widely used in the construction of metal buildings and steel portal frames and play a crucial role in the safety of steel structures. Studies agreed that joint rotational behavior should be considered in frame analysis due to the fact that majority of these joints are semi-rigid. This paper gives a survey on the progress in this topic, based on the studies in the last decade and main design approaches which are analytical, numerical and experimental. There are noted some principal characteristics of each method, along with some advantages and disadvantages. The illustrative example is given to describe the situation when all the mentioned methods are included on the single joint. It is proposed, as a good practice, to propose analytical model in that way to comply with experimental verification and to use numerical model in the form of validation in the last stages of joint design. Finally, it is noted that joint behavior under monotonic or cyclic loading, within the scope of the ductile failure modes of the joint, can be controlled with the design parameters of the end-plate and bolts.

AB - The aim of this research is to study the dynamic behaviour of a real gantry crane subjected to the actions induced by the trolley and payload movement. A specific numerical procedure was developed and implemented in the finite element method in order to simulate different trolley movement modes on the crane's main beam. From the results, it is clear that the crane displacement, especially the longitudinal one, is strongly dependent on the acceleration both in the starting phase and in the stopping phase to which the trolley is subjected during its movement on the crane main beam. The last part of this research simulates the sudden stop of the trolley movement and subsequent payload swinging; in this case, the length of the rope that suspend the payload to the trolley has a fundamental role in the trend and maximum longitudinal crane displacement value.

AB - This paper deals with problems and possible solutions for the
improvement of container transport of Serbia by using Danube as a
waterway. Given the geographical position in relation to the Danube,
Serbia has a sufficient number of ports on this river, which could be an
element of further development of the economy and therefore can be
considered as a great potential. An analysis of import and export of
container that was done in this paper indicates that Serbia has substantial
potential to transport containers on Danube. Consequently, there are
sufficient justifications for the design and construction of a modern
container terminal on the Danube which will connected Serbia with main
Europian ports and which will contribute to the further progress of the
Serbian economy.

concerning the M /G/1 queue using the known general expression for
the specific cost ratio and the Pollaczek–Khintchine formula for the
M /G/1 queue. Moreover, we also present related numerical and
graphical results including the cases concerning the M /M /1 and
M / D/1 queues. The deduced formula gives a possibility for
comparison of values of specific cost ratio of different M /G/1 type
queues. The corresponding optimization is considered in the sense of
minimization of values of the appropriate specific cost ratio under some
constraints to the values  (the utilization factor). The proposed method

form M X g /D/1// s . We deduce the recursive equation for the steadystate

The provided analysis presents current container flows in Serbia and the forecast for the next 5 and 10 years (including three scenarios: realistic, pessimistic and optimistic), at first for the whole country, but later on the analysis was focused on the Danube gravitating regions in Serbia and finally to the existing Port of Novi Sad in order to evaluate its potential to become a logistics center. It was concluded that the construction of a new container terminal in the Port of Novi Sad on the Danube aims to bring about a significant change in the container transport system in Serbia, but also in the region or the Danube countries.

AB - This paper deals with the LCA of a ball bearing used in belt conveyor idler.
Previous work had shown that ball bearing is manufacture intensive
product. Therefore herein conducted LCA is cradle-to-gate analysis and it
was focused on the production stage of the ball bearing. Chromium steel
and stainless steel were considered as ball bearing materials. Results had
shown that chromium steel from the ball bearing has the highest
environmental impact in all impact categories, followed by processes
related to machining of the chromium steel and forging. Change of the
lubricant harmed the environmental properties in this case. Future work
should consider different materials for raceways and balls.

AB - A new optimization model of Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (AS/RS) containing three objective and four constraint functions is presented in this paper. Majority of the researchers and publications in material handling field had performed optimization of different decision variables, but with single objective function only. Most common functions are: minimum travel time, maximum throughput capacity, minimum cost, maximum energy efficiency, etc. To perform the simultaneous optimization of objective functions (minimum: "investment expenses", "cycle times", "CO2 footprint") the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II (NSGA II) was used. The NSGA II is a tool for finding the Pareto optimal solutions on the Pareto line. Determining the performance of the system is the main goal of our model. Since AS/RS are not flexible in terms of layout and organizational changes once the system is up and running, the proposed model could be a very helpful tool for the warehouse planners in the early stages of warehouse design.

AB - A holistic approach to analyzing the dynamic behaviour of a bucket wheel excavator (BWE) superstructure, which is practically neglected by technical regulations but nowadays widely used during their design and redesign, is presented in the paper. The procedure for determining the potential and kinetic energy and the vector of generalized non-potential forces of the system, leading to the development of a reduced spatial dynamic (RD) model of the BWE with two masts is presented in detail. Direct validation of the established model has been performed by comparing the values obtained for the first ten natural frequencies (NFs) of the finite element (FE) model to those obtained by the RD model. Percent deviations of values of the NFs obtained for the RD model are very low compared to those obtained by the FE model (~1% for three fundamental NFs). Indirect validation of the RD model used in this research i.e. validation of values of the NFs which have been obtained by calculation and the respective modal deflection shapes has been achieved by comparing them to the studies containing the results of numerical-experimental research on the dynamic characteristics of BWEs of the same design concept. The values of NFs are of the same order of magnitude and the corresponding deflection shapes are in full compliance with those of the experimentally-analyzed BWEs.
