AB - Primena profilnih strugarskih noževa u industriji prisutna je unazad nekoliko decenija. Upotreba profilnih noževa u industriji je u ekspanziji, a ovu sve veću popularnost mogu pripisati smanjenju troškova proizvodnje i uštede vremena obrade.
AB - Form tools have been used in industry for a number of decades. Their use is booming and such growing popularity can be attributed to minimized manufacturing costs and shorter manufacturing time. On the other side, one of the major drawbacks is the method of their design. It reflects in the constraints present in the machining of straight-line and circular arc segments of a workpiece. For each segment the rake angle has a different value, which imposes an additional constraint. In case it is necessary to use form tools to manufacture complex-geometry parts, the value of the rake angle would require to be zero. The paper presents contemporary design method of circular form tools by implementing CAD system. This way, it is not only provided a constant value of the rake angle across the entire cutting edge, which can be different from zero too, but also optimum tool geometry for machining a desired material. Additionally, the geometry of a form tool designed using a new method was experimentally tested.

AB - A pilot plant scale fiber membrane system was developed for the removal of dissolved oxygen from water via nitrogen vacuum. Feed water was introduced to the shell side; a nitrogen gas was applied to the lumen side, as an inert gas, of the hollow fiber. Outlet concentrations of oxygen in water depend on membrane module, inlet concentrations of oxygen in water, water flow, and nitrogen concentrations in inert gas and nitrogen flow. The effects of nitrogen purity on removal efficiency of dissolved oxygen were investigated. Equations for oxygen concentrations and efficiency due to nitrogen purity have been given.

AB - Although contact condensers are extensively used for various industrial applications, procedures for calculation and sizing these vessels are scarce in the open literature. However, before new and reliable calculation procedures can be derived, it is important to obtain properly verified experimental results. In this paper, a novel validation procedure is introduced for the case of condensation of the complete amount of vapor that enters the device. The proposed procedure is based entirely on the theoretical model that must always be fulfilled in the aforementioned case. This fact makes it very useful in verification of experimental results for contact condensers with no vapor outflow.

The proposed new model for economic optimization of pipe diameter is based on simple economic balance approach. The model covers the region of complete turbulence (so called rough pipe flow). Final result estimates somewhat different pipe diameter values than the widely cited Genereaux equation for smooth pipe flow.

AB - Reboilers are essential for the proper work of distillation and stripping columns. Hereby the intensity of axial mixing along the reboiler (Peclet number) is used for the reboiler separation efficiency modeling and estimation for binary systems. Two fully worked examples show that the separation (Murphree) efficiency varies significantly depending on the adopted reboiler flow model. Murphree efficiency ranges between 1.40 and 0.663 in example 1, and between 1.962 and 1 in example 2. The general conclusion is that the reboiler performance must be considered carefully in the case of design of the new plants,as well as in the case of "brown field" projects.

AB - The purpose of this paper is to present the method for solving multiobjective nonlinear optimization of planetary gear trains. Optimization of gear train was successfully accomplished using the genetic algorithm (GA). The weighting method is used to approximate the Pareto set. This method transforms the multiobjective optimization problem into single-objective optimization problem by associating each objective function a weighting coefficient and then minimizing the weighted sum of the objectives. The GA based approach produced quite satisfactory results promptly supplying the designer with the preliminary design parameters of planetary gear train for different gear ratios. The results showed that the genetic algorithm is useful and applicable for optimization of planetary gears desgin.

AB - Industrial robots represent a promising cost-effective and flexible alternative for some machining applications. This paper describes the concept of reconfigurable robot multi-axis machining systems for machining the complex parts of light materials with lower tolerances having freeform surfaces. For the basic configuration of a five-axis robotic machining system, the robot modeling approach is shown in detail as well as the prototype of developed control system with programming in G-code. The experimental robotic machining system has been verified by successful machining of several test work pieces.

Normalized Efficiency for Stagewise Operations

AB - Tray efficiency in gas-liquid operations is a widely discussed theme, and the shortcomings of Murphree's, Hausen's, Standart's, and Holland's efficiencies are well-known. The new parameter "normalized efficiency" is defined as the ratio of the real tray mass transfer rate and theoretically maximal mass transfer rate obtained for the counter-current plug-flow model for both phases in the case of infinite contact surface. Normalized efficiency has several advantages over the previously defined efficiencies: the range of normalized efficiency is 0-1; normalized efficiency values for gas and liquid phases are equal. Furthermore, normalized efficiency can be easily used for determining the required number of trays in mass-transfer operations or for estimating the overall column efficiency. The usage of normalized efficiency does not raise any dilemma about the interpretation of experimentally obtained results for trays working in distillation and sorption columns.

AB - Estimation of the tray (plate) efficiency is the basis of trayed column design. A newly introduced parameter "normalized efficiency" (eta) is compared to the stripping factor (lambda) in order to derive a correlation which can be useful in engineering practice. The proposed correlation is based on the numerous data gathered from various literature sources describing distillation, absorption, and stripping (desorption) columns and covering sieve, tunnel, bubble-cup, uniflux, and jet trays, in the range lambda = 0.0391-2196. The final form of this correlation is eta c = {1/1 + 1.5 lambda(0.9) for lambda lt = 1 lambda 0.3/1.5 + lambda(0.3) for lambda lt = 1 with correlation ratio Theta = 0.883 and standard deviation Delta(av) = 13.1%.

AB - Parallel kinematic machines (PKM) are still a research-and-development topic in many laboratories although many of them, unfortunately, have no PKM at all. Therefore, the use of a desktop educational 3-axis parallel kinematic milling machine is suggested as a help in the process of acquiring basic experiences in the field of PKM. The developed desktop educational 3-axis parallel kinematic milling machine is based on a newly developed 3-DOF spatial parallel mechanism. This paper describes the structure of the machine, modeling approach, and control and programming system based on PC Linux platform with real-time extension and EMC2 (the Enhanced Machine Controller) software system.
