AB  - The paper analyzed three generations of R744 systems: the basic booster system, the booster system with parallel compression, and the multi ejector system. The aim was to compare these systems from the point of view of efficiency and electricity consumption. The analysis is based on the model with two temperature levels of evaporators –30 °C and –10 °C, and with a total cooling capacity of 250 kW and 150 kW, respectively. The analysis was carried out for the climatic conditions of the city of Belgrade in the summer period when the greatest differences in operation are expected. The results showed that the next system generations achieve savings in electricity consumption for the considered period.

AB  - The effects of different freezing methods and long-term frozen storage on quality of strawberry and raspberry were investigated, that is, the retention of initial property and free radical scavenging (AO) activity after individual quick freezing (IQF) and conventional (discontinuous) freezing. The physicochemical properties, vitamin C, and AO activity were more affected by long-term frozen storage than by freezing itself; however, their better retention was obtained after IQF. Moreover, AO activity was found to be higher in frozen samples compared to fresh fruits, but significant decrease was detected after 8 months of frozen storage. Despite the significantly higher initial content of vitamin C in strawberry, it demonstrated a lower AO activity than raspberry. Sensory attributes were significantly affected by freezing; the most considerable changes were recorded on their texture/firmness, especially after conventional (slow) freezing. Therefore, IQF can generally be suggested as a more suitable method of preserving these delicate fruits than slow freezing. Practical applications Nowadays, consumers are increasingly interested in foods that possess not only good nutritional value but also health-promoting property. Berries are known as rich sources of micronutrients and antioxidant compounds, but consumption of fresh strawberry and raspberry fruits may be limited because of seasonal and market availability; therefore, they must be preserved commonly by freezing. Frozen food industry is of crucial importance for developing countries, in which the fast freezing industry is rapidly developed. Investigation of the effect of industrial freezing and frozen storage on retention of the quality-related property and antioxidant activity is important for providing the best quality for consumers and health benefits, as well as international fruit trade. In addition, the results obtained in this study could provide best practice and guidance for the frozen fruit industry.

Effect of freezing in the industrial conditions on quality of strawberry fruits

AB  - Freezing is the method usually used for preserving delicate fruit, because the product tends to maintain its original attributes, i.e., keeping its nutritional properties as close as possible to those of fresh fruit. Strawberry is a widespread and highly demanded fruit, but the fresh fruits are available in a short period of time and the largest amount of strawberry is processed by freezing. The aim of the paper is to determine the effect of process of freezing in the industrial conditions, with precooling, on the relevant parameters of the strawberry quality.  The fruits were frozen in the conventional freezing tunnel by cold air temperature of –33 °C until reaching a temperature of –15 °C in the thermal center of the fruits. Packaged frozen fruits were stored in the chamber  at –18 °C. In order to determine the changes in strawberry quality, the content of dry matter, total sugars and acids, pH, vitamin C, and sensory quality characteristics were analyzed. Also, quality index of the fresh and frozen strawberry is determined by calculation. The obtained results showed that there were no significant changes in the physicochemical parameters of quality after the freezing of the strawberry fruits. Significant  changes are found in the sensory characteristics and the most remarkable is the loss of consistency and firmness of the frozen strawberry. Also, some modified color, taste and aroma of the strawberry fruit have been noticed after freezing in the industrial conditions.

AB  - This paper deals with the procedure for measuring the relevant parameters of plate-finned tube heat exchangers operating as an air heaters. Besides the description of the experimental installation, the most important geometric characteristics of these appliances are given. In order to determine the relevant parameters for dry and wet regimes (for cases with and without spray cooling), experimental measurements of the heat and hydraulic performance of the heat exchangers were made. Water flowed through the pipes as a warmer fluid. During the experiments, the flow rates and temperatures of the working fluids were varied within the limits defined by the operating parameters of the installation itself, sufficient to allow the obtained results to be generalized. The experimental data were processed by appropriate statistical methods; the aim was to determine equations suitable for engineering practice. The coefficients of the air-side heat and mass transfer and friction factor are defined on the complex geometry of this type of heat exchangers under realistic operating conditions, as a function of the relevant similarity criteria.

AB  - This paper presents an analysis of convective heat load of frozen surfaces. A mathematical  model for determination of "dry" and "wet" heat loads has been formed. The mass heat transfer  coefficient  σ  i s estimated by the  Chilton -Colburn's analogy .  T he impact of re levant  parameters of  convective  loads (flow velocity and relative humidity over ice, the surface temperature of the ice  rink  and the characteristic length of ice rink )  has been analyzed . Finally, measures  for  improv ing  the energy efficiency of the system  has been  highlighted.

AB  - Thermoeconomic analysis of spiral heat exchanger is conducted. Different geometrical parameters, such as outer diameter, plate height, passage gap, etc. are used and varied in a wide range. Detailed thermal and total costs analyses were performed for two spiral heat exchanger with different process fluids (water and thermal oil) with temperature changes, while the wall temperature was kept constant (condensation). The results were shown graphically. It is determined that optimum values of number of entropy generation units correspond to minimum total annual cost. The optimal solution could be found in the recommended range of geometric sizes for defined inlet and outlet temperatures and process fluid-flow rate.

AB  - Berries are a large and economically very important group of fruit. Serbia is not at the top in the  production of this fruit, but is at the top in exported quantities of berries.  Almost the total amount  of berries are exported i n frozen condition. The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of  freezing process on the quality and sensory characteristics of berry fruit. Investigation were carried  out with the strawberry, raspberry and blackberry fruits. Within the sensory qu ality analysis,  special emphasis is placed on maintaining the strength and color of these delicate fruits. As quality  parameters, content of total sugar and acid, dry matter content and pH value s of berry fruits were  analysed. The content of vitamin C in t he berries, before and after process of freezing, were  determined. The obtained results showed that there was  no significant changes in chemical quality  parameters. Somewhat larger changes was  in sensory characteristics, as determined by the loss of  streng th and consistency, especially in strawberry fruit.

AB  - Fruit has a significant place in the total value of agricultural production in Serbia and an increasing amount of fresh fruits has been exported recently. For a more significant placement of fresh food on foreign markets, it is necessary to provide quality protection during transport and storage. Postharvest losses of fresh fruits and vegetables are very high, especially in undeveloped countries. Therefore, modern postharvest technologies, such as modified and controlled atmosphere, are increasingly used to prolong storage life of fresh fruits. ULO (Ultra Low Oxygen) controlled atmosphere has suppressed all other solutions in terms of quality and prolonged storage life (up to 300 days) of apples. In this paper, the optimum conditions and recommended storage regimes for different apple varieties in ULO atmosphere have been reported.

AB  - In this paper it is considered the possibility of using geothermal energy in the territory of Republic Serbia in the systems that run an organic Rankine cycle (ORC) with R245fa as the working fluid. Although the most common geothermal resources that can be encountered in the territory of RS is moderate water temperature, geothermal water from the locality Vranjska Banja with a highest temperature of 96°C was adopted as a heat source for driving this system. This system was compared with the conventional system for electricity production of the same power (Rankine cycle with water as the working fluid and coal–fired boiler), in order to calculate the annually reduction in CO2 emission into the atmosphere from the burning of conventional fuel, as well as the savings in its consumption.

AB  - The paper deals with the problems of measurement of respective operating parameters of air cooler with finned tubes. It is given a PI diagram of the tested refrigeration system. The most important geometrical characteristics of this heat exchanger are shown. Experimental work included measurement of thermal performance on a physical model – the heat exchanger, which cooled the air by using secondary refrigerant, which has not changed phase flowing through the pipes. Flow rates and temperatures of working fluids were varied in defined operating ranges of experimental installation, which were sufficient to make generalization of experimentally obtained data. In conclusion, it is given the most important results that were obtained during the experimental and mathematical analysis of this exchanger in terms of cooling and drying air.

AB  - Proizvodnja voća i povrća u Srbiji zauzima značajno mesto u ukupnoj vrednosti poljoprivredne
proizvodnje. U novije vreme sve veće količine svežeg voća i povrća se i izvoze. Za sigurniji plasman
na inostrano tržište neophodno je obezbediti očuvanje kvaliteta sveže hrane prilikom skladištenja i
transporta. Gubici svežeg voća i povrća su jako veliki, naročito u nerazvijenim zemljama. Zato se
sve više uvode u upotrebu i koriste savremeni uslovi čuvanja kao što su kontrolisana i modifikovana
atmosfera za skladištenje svežih plodova. ULO kontrolisana atmosfera nesumnjivo je potisnula sva
druga rešenja kada je u pitanju kvalitet skladištenog voća i povrća. U ULO atmosferi najviše se
skladište jabuke. U ovom radu analizirani su optimalni uslovi i preporučeni režimi za čuvanje
različitih sorti jabuke u ULO hladnjačama.

AB  - More recently the interest for antioxidant properties of food was increased, due to their health-promoting properties. In the analysis of food, in addition to finding the usual quality parameters, one more often determines its antioxidant potential. The present study evaluated the effect of freezing process on raspberry fruits changes. The content of dry matter, total sugars and acids, vitamin C, as well as sensory analysis of quality were determined. Antioxidant potential was measured by DPPH method, testing the ability of DPPH radical neutralization. The results indicate that the freezing caused minor changes in chemical quality parameters. The changes in sensory quality characteristics were higher. The most marked was the loss of consistency, then flavor changes, and the taste of raspberry fruit was some modified.

AB  - This  paper   presents  influence  of  relevant   operating   parameters   to  performances  of   refrigeration devices as  part of  the technical systems intended  for  ventilating of industrial  storage of refined sugar . For the designed  technical  ventilation system , using  the  method of  "coupling of  performances  characteristics   of  refrigeration   plant  components ",  the  effect  of  evaporation  and  condensation  temperature ,  as  well  as   temperature  and  relative  humidity   of  the  treated   air  are  analyzed .   It   was   also   found  quantifiable    impact    of   some    relevant   parameters    on   energy    consumption.
