AB - Determining the correlation and regression is a statistical method applied when several random variables are simultaneously being measured on the same statistical sample and if their interdependency is being investigated. The correlation and regression between random variables of the pre-breakdown current and breakdown voltage of the vacuum switchgears has been investigated in the paper. The switching operations leading to welding and disconnection of closed contacts have been the parameters. The investigations have been carried out under well controlled laboratory conditions on commercial vacuum switchgears with CuCr contacts.

AB - This paper investigates the ageing process of some common elements used for overvoltage protection. Tested elements are overvoltage diodes, varistors and gas filled surge arresters. Ageing process is considered as a function of previous number of element activations. Experiments are performed both with voltage and current transients. Statistical analysis of experimental data has shown that all elements investigated are subjected to the ageing during their functional operation. After 1000 overvotage diode activations, the volt-ampere characteristic curve "breaking" has been noticed in the range of higher currents, while the breakdown voltage value is reduced. In the case of varistor, it is determined that with higher number of activations comes an increase in the value of breakdown voltage and the shift of volt-ampere characteristics in the field of higher voltage. As for the aging of gas filled surge arresters, it has been shown that past activations reduce the value of dc breakdown voltage and lead to narrowing the area bounded by the 0.1% and 99.9% quintiles of the impulse characteristics.

AB - Temperature effects and thermally induced noise in photo detectors are significant in the detection processes. Degradation of electrical and optical characteristics of the photo detectors in the increased temperature conditions is one of the most important limitation factors for their application. Since most of the electrical processes in semiconductor devices depend, in some extent, on the temperature, investigations at temperatures higher than room temperature may reveal possible changes in output characteristics of the device. From the technological point of view, thermally induced noise increase minimum signal that can be detected, and this is especially important for the low energy and non ionizing radiation detectors, since the noise level presents the major performance limitation. In this paper these effects are studied through frequency noise level measurements and measurements of the main output characteristics of solar cells.

AB - U radu se razmatra stabilizacija električnog pražnjenja u gasovima primenom spoljašnjeg jonizujućeg zračenja. Razmatrano je pražnjenje modela gasnog odvodnika prenapona u pasivnom i aktivnom radnom režimu. Korišćen je originalno razvijen model gasnog odvodnika prenapona. Parametri merenja su bili pritisak gasa i međuelektrodno rastojanje. Primenjeno zračenje je bilo: α-zračenje, γ-zračenje, X-zračenje i neutronsko zračenje. Merenja su vršena pod dobro kontrolisanim laboratorijskim uslovima.
AB - This paper investigates the stabilization of electrical discharges in gases by means of external ionizing radiation. Discharges in a gas-filled surge arrester model were studied in both passive and active regimes of the device. An originally developed model of the gas-filled surge arrester was used. Gas pressure and the interelectrode gap were the variable parameters in our measurements. Applied radiation types included α-particles, γ-rays, X-rays, and neutrons. Measurements were performed under highly controlled laboratory conditions. The combined measurement uncertainty of the applied procedure was estimated as being under the 5% level. The results obtained are followed by a theoretical explanation. The crucial result is the conclusion that ionizing radiation does not necessarily degrade the gas-filled surge arrester's functionality but that it, rather, improves it under certain conditions.

AB - Faced with an alarming increase of energy consumption on one side, and very limiting amounts of available conventional energy sources on the other, scientists have turned to the most promising renewable energy sources. Possibilities for the application of solar systems based on photovoltaic (PV) conversion of solar energy are widespread, primarily because of their relatively low cost and the very important fact that solar energy is the most acceptable source of electrical energy from an environmental point of view. Recently, increased investments in the development of PV technology have been observed worldwide. However, as with every other energy source, PV technology also has some limitations and disadvantages, primarily connected to its low efficiency. There are several trends in the development of solar cells, but the two main directions are the improvement of the conventional solar cell characteristics based on semiconductor materials, and exploring the possibilities of using new materials. The aim of this paper is to present some different approaches for the improvement of solar cells.

There are several trends in the development of solar cells, but the two main directions are the improvement of the conventional solar cell characteristics based on semiconductor materials, and exploring the possibilities of using new materials. The aim of this paper is to present some different approaches for the improvement of solar cells.",

AB - Regardless of the very high standards in the production of electronic devices, all of them are more or less, prone to the effects of aging even if they are not exposed to extreme (hostile) working conditions. One of the most limiting factors for all kinds of detectors is their noise, such as frequency dependent generation-recombination noise, burst noise and 1/f noise. Common source of noise that is connected to the hostile working conditions is radiation. Photovoltaic (PV) conversion of solar energy is one of the most up-to-date semiconductor technologies that enables application of PV systems for various purposes. Solar cells, the basic elements for photovoltaic conversion of solar energy, are especially susceptible to radiation damage, primarily due to their large surface. The lifetime of the solar cell is restricted by the degree of radiation damage that the cell receives. This is an important factor that affects the performance of the solar cell in practical applications. Introduction of radiation-induced recombination centers reduce the minority carrier lifetime in the base layer of the p-n junction increasing series resistance, and lead to an enormous increase of noise in solar cells. After very high doses of radiation series resistance of the base layer could be so high that most of the power generated by the device is dissipated by its own internal resistance. The aim of this paper is to investigate the influence of radiation on output characteristics of solar cells in connection to their noise level that could lead to better understanding of transport properties, electron-hole pair creation etc.

The results obtained for CMOS-based EPROM (NM27C010) and E2PROM (NM93CS46) components provide the evidence that EPROMs have greater radiation hardness than E2PROMs. More over, the changes in EPROMs are reversible, and after erasure and reprogramming all EPROM components restore their functionality. On the other hand, changes in E2PROMs are irreversible. The obtained results are analyzed and interpreted on the basis of gamma ray interaction with the CMOS structure.

AB - This paper investigates the possibility of applying the time enlargement law for predicting how gas-insulated systems would behave when exposed to pulse voltage loads of different shapes. For this purpose, the validity of the time enlargement law in this case has first been tested and the most suitable theoretical distribution function of the breakdown time random variable established. Pulse characteristics of the investigated insulating system have subsequently been determined, by applying the time enlargement law to experimental values of the breakdown time random variable, obtained in measurements with predefined shapes of the voltage load. Pulse characteristics thus obtained were compared with the corresponding pulse characteristics derived from the area law. The results demonstrate the advantages of the time enlargement law method, especially in the case of a non-homogeneous electric field. The experiments were conducted with SF6 gas, at different values of the pd product (pressure x inter-electrode gap), in a wide frequency range of applied pulse voltages, for a homogeneous, radial and point-plane electrode configuration.

AB - Possibilities for the application of solar systems based on photovoltaic conversion of solar energy are very wide, primarily because of their relatively low cost and very important fact that solar energy is most acceptable source of electrical energy from the environmental point of view. However, as every other energy source, PV technology also has some limitations and disadvantages. In the first place, compared to some other sources, the efficiency of PV modules (i.e. solar cells) is relatively small. One of the most limiting factors for all kinds of detectors is their noise, especially frequency dependent generation-recombination noise, burst noise and 1/f noise. It has been suggested that the cause of the 1/f noise is the trapping of electrons at the surface states as well as in the bulk. That is why the improvement of electrical characteristics of contact layers is very important. Silicides are widely investigated as promising reliable and reproducible contacts. The aim of this paper is to present the possibilities of lowering noise in silicides (that could be used as contacts) and in solar cells as a whole.

AB - The aim of this paper is to examine the influence of temperature raising, as well as neutron and gamma irradiation on the dissipation factor (loss tangent, tg delta) and capacitance (C) of capacitors with polycarbonate dielectric. Operation of capacitors subject to extreme conditions, such as high temperature and in the presence of ionizing radiation fields, is of special concern in military industry and space technology. The obtained results show that the rise of temperature has a considerable influence on the loss tangent of these capacitors, while exposure to a mixed neutron and gamma radiation field causes a decrease of their capacitance.

AB - Rapid development and wide application of photovoltaic (PV) solar systems are primarily based on thorough investigations of the characteristics of solar cells. Though proved to be relatively stable (except perhaps amorphous silicon solar cells) under ordinary working conditions, solar systems are (like any other electronic devices) prone to the effects of aging, which could deteriorate their characteristics. The aim of this paper is to investigate the influence of aging on the main characteristics of solar cells such as efficiency, fill factor, short circuit current etc. To simulate and accelerate the effects of aging, solar cells were exposed to the radiation fields of different doses. Investigations were directed to the effects of defects and impurities that influence the minority carrier lifetime, better understanding of transport properties, electron-hole pair creation etc., that would ultimately lead to larger scale application of solar energy in the near future.

AB - Široka primena fotonaponskih (PV) solarnih sistema nameće potrebu izrade solarnih
ćelija od različitih materijala i struktura u cilju poboljšanja njihovih osobina i smanjenja cene
solarnih ćelija i struktura.
fotonaponskih generatora.

AB - This paper discusses the mechanisms of gas breakdown at low values of pressure and inter-electrode gap, i.e. in the vicinity of the Paschen minimum. In this area of pressure and inter-electrode gap values, breakdown occurs either through gas or vacuum mechanisms, and also the so called anomalous Paschen effect appears. Electrical breakdown of electropositive, electronegative and noble gases has been investigated theoretically, experimentally and numerically. Based on the results obtained, regions in which particular breakdown mechanisms appear have been demarcated. Special attention has been devoted to the anomalous Paschen effect as well as to the avalanche vacuum breakdown mechanism.

AB - This paper investigates the influence of the low-voltage capacitor dielectric material on the capacitive probe response in the nanosecond range. It was inferred which types of microscopic material structure, i.e. types of frequency characteristics of the material, would best suit the purpose. The capacitive probe with optimal characteristics was designed. An experimental system was formed, with the probe incorporated into the I-element of the pulse power generator (PPG). Measurements of the probe response in the nanosecond range were verified by numerical simulation. The use of materials with electronic polarization as low-voltage capacitor dielectrics confirmed the conclusions regarding their suitability for this purpose.
