AB  - This paper deals with experimental investigations of the influence of electro-pneumatically operated ball valve (EPV) on fluid-structure interaction (FSI) effect. The experimental setup for investigation of water hammer and its side effects, unsteady friction, cavitation, column separation and FSI is installed at Faculty of  Mechanical Engineering, Podgorica, Montenegro. Experimental runs have been performed with different  initial values of pressure in the upstream end high-pressurized tank and with EPV fixed and released. Some 
of the obtained results are presented and conclusions are given.

AB  - In the last decade, hydrological data measurements, acquisitions and analyses of various Montenegrin mountain watercourses were carried out comprehensively. The data were analyzed respecting the hitherto known approaches in determining the small hydropower plant (SHPP) installed parameters. The SHPP installed parameter Ki is the ratio of the design flow and averaged perennial flow obtained from the flow duration curve at the planned water intake location. Due to the specifics of the rivers, it was not possible to define the installed parameters easily and clearly. For this reason, an improved multidisciplinary approach was conducted, which would lead to clearer general guidelines for quality and efficient determination of the SHPPs installed parameter respecting environmental requirements for each of them. The range of SHPP installed parameters is determined according to the technical and economic criteria. In this paper, the conclusions for three different SHPPs are presented comparing the calculated results and in-situ ones.

Design discharge determination for SHPPs with below 1 MW capacity

AB  - The basic parameters for determining and calclulation of installed capacity 
and energy production of the small hydro power plant (SHPP) are design discharge and net head. The SHPP installed parameter Ki is the ratio of the design discharge and averaged perennial discharge obtained from the flow duration curve at the planned water intake location, so that being knowledgeable about the turbine design discharge is of great significance.The paper shows the previously mentioned parameters for nineteen planned SHPPs with capacities bellow 1 MW at the territory of Montenegro. For each SHPP, design discharge is determined according to two criteria: the highest electricity production and the highest income.

AB  - This paper presents comparison of results obtained by dynamic pressure transducers, which measure fast pressure changes during transients, installed on experimental setup for investigation of water hammer and its side effects, unsteady friction, cavitation, column separation and fluid structure interaction (FSI). Apparatus, situated at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Podgorica, is comprised of high presusurized tank, steel pipeline and outflow tank. Four dynamic and four absolute high-frequency pressure transducers are positioned within the valve units along the pipeline. Results of the dynamic and absolute pressure measurements are compared and analyzed. Proposals for the future improvement of experimental setup are given.

AB  - Analysis of transient processes is necessary at the design stage as well as 
 during refurbishment of a hydropower plant (HPP). Comprehensive analysis of non-stationary phenomena during transient processes at HPP implies investigation on possible improvements through operation and constructive protection measures. In this paper, the analysis of relevant constructive measures for HPP Pirot is presented comprising the improved tri-linear guide vanes closing law, which can be implemented  instead of the current linear one. HPP Pirot is equipped with the two-chamber surge tank and synchronous pressure regulating valves (SPRVs) on the turbines. SPRVs are  installed directly at turbines spiral cases, and their opening law is complementary to the closing law of the guide vanes. Prior to analyzing the HPP characteristics during emergency shut down regime for various potential surge tank types, the research of the safety of the existing surge tank with the improved closing law has been conducted for the same operational condition.
