AB - Mining equipment working time is critical for ensuring output and fulfilling mining project deadlines. In order to find trends and possible downtime minimization measures, this article analyses numerous types of excavators, dump trucks, loaders, backhoe loaders, bucket wheel excavators, and surface-top hammer drill rigs in Serbian mining sites. The study collects data on mechanical, electrical, technological, organizational, abuse and meteorological downtimes types with the aim to highlight efficient ways for minimizing non-operational periods, hence improving the overall productivity and safety of mining operations in the industry. Special emphasis is put on excavators whose role in the mining industry is pivotal, directly impacting project timelines and financial outcomes. The methodology includes analysing the duration and implications of different downtime categories. Collected data showed non-parametric features, according to the descriptive statistics. To compare the data, the non-parametric Mann-Whitney U-test is implemented. The results of the research showed that, in most cases, there is a difference in the duration of downtimes between different categories of excavators` downtimes. However, a comparison between excavator downtimes and other machinery downtimes has not shown any statistically significant differences. This analysis aims to contribute to the optimisation of mining equipment usage, offering valuable insights for mining industry stakeholders.

AB - Transport and mining companies are vulnerable to a variety of hazards, and this paper offers a novel conceptual framework for organisational resilience assessment at different organisational levels. It is based on a safety climate and performances assessment in companies in the transport and mining sector. The framework contains factor and reliability analysis and continues by applying the SMART method from the perspective of resilience corners: anticipate, monitor, react and learn. The highest resilience coefficients at all organisational levels are obtained regarding safety awareness, safety training and safety communication areas, while the lowest values are observed for risk assessment and the organisational environment. The obtained results indicate that the ‘monitor’ resilience corner must be improved at all organisational levels, employees trained and procedures changed, since employees do not sufficiently use experience from previous events. The very high values at all organisational levels of the coefficients regarding the ‘anticipate’ and ‘learn’ resilience corners indicate organisational adaptation to changes through corrective activities, rather than planned preventive ones. All hierarchical levels have good resilience indicators, except for middle management, which expressed an adequate resilience index, due to the lower ratings of the safety training, organisational commitment, risk assessment and management support areas.

AB - The mining industry has been steadily expanding annually to keep up with the increasing demands. Consequently, used machinery needs to work efficiently, which indicates that unexpected downtimes should be at the minimum possible level. Proper identification and risk evaluation of the potential breakdown is the most important element for efficient equipment maintenance and breakdown prevention. This research has focused on its reliability function determination and analyzed the consequences of downtime and the cost of repairs over a period of one year. Delays on the observed mining machine were classified according to the type of downtime: mechanical, technological, power/electricity, and downtime due to external influences. Input elements for risk assessment were severity of consequence (S), probability of occurrence (O), and failure detectability (D). The method used in this paper is based on the cost of maintenance and the impact of bulldozer breakdowns on reliability in order to maintain profitability and, by reducing the number of unwanted events caused by sudden failure of parts, increase safety during operation. Results show that the monitored bulldozer belongs to the lowest defined risk class, so its use is economically justifiable.

AB - Numerous authors have demonstrated the effectiveness of the risk-based approach in the mining sector. However, the majority of earlier research has ignored the role that auxiliary machines, in total risk management play in favor of heavy machinery. This study aims to analyze backhoe loader maintenance data in order to offer a risk assessment approach for auxiliary machinery in open-pit mines. The severity, occurrence, and detection of failures were the three component indicators that together determined the overall risk, as per the FMEA method. The purpose of the Pareto chart was to grade the detection indicator by illustrating the failure type distribution and distinction. The downtime data statistical testing results enabled analytical calculation of the system's reliability and mean downtime, which in turn allowed for the evaluation of the frequency and severity of failures. As a result, a framework for evaluation was put out, supported by data that was gathered, and included a three-dimensional risk assessment matrix. The focus of further research efforts should be on expanding the present sample data in sense of quantity and also to analysis of other machines in the whole mining system.

AB - Despite being the oldest, the mining industry continues to be a major source of pollution, with more people killed or injured than in all other industries. Additionally, social tension related to this sector is widespread around the world, since mining businesses continue to have a significant negative influence on land, water, air, biota, and people through direct and indirect mechanisms. The mining machinery workplaces, which are in the focus of this study have the largest environmental footprint. The dominance of technology-centered design in present research streams is most likely the explanation for the lack of advancement in the mining industry. The SmartMiner project creates shift from technology-centered design and its concept creates solutions for improving the standard of environmental quality in complex systems and suggests a paradigm change to a Human and Data-Centric Engineering. By aligning advanced operator I4.0&5.0 and society S5.0 standards, the SmartMiner project develops solutions for raising the level of environmental quality in complex interactions between physical, behavioural, and organizational processes field. Proposed paradigm can be easily transferred to other industries. The safety of mining machinery operators in their immediate surroundings and their regular alignment with value chain stakeholders are the first steps in our original idea approval process. Research moves to the operator macro-environment, which is determined by organizational contextual factors, and is encompassed by the development of intelligent, ergonomic, non-invasive, and dependable operator aid systems for regulating physical environment job stressors - noise, human vibration, lighting, temperature, air quality, workplace layout issues, etc., with high potential to solve environmental and human health issues and to influence overall performance.

AB - The paper presents research into the possibility of applying machine learning algorithms in the prediction of stoppages and/or failure of excavator units. Regression trees, Random Forest and Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithms were tested with different hyperparameter variations on the collected set of data on the causes and downtime of stoppages of the observed excavator units. The result indicates that the trained SVM algorithm with sufficient accuracy (MSE 0.106) can predict the stoppages of the observed excavator units. Further research is aimed at expanding the database and further improving the possibility of predicting the level of danger for various causes of stoppages and/or failure of the observed excavator units.

Further research is aimed at expanding the database and further improving the possibility of predicting the level of danger for various causes of stoppages and/or failure of the observed excavator units.",

AB - An appropriate maintenance strategy can maximize a machine’s capacity and economic lifetime and also produce yearly savings of several million euros. That being said, a risk assessment approach can help companies identify the systemic bottlenecks that are interfering with their development and cut a large portion of their profit each year. This paper presents a hybrid reliability-Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) methodology to assess the risk associated with belt conveyor systems, particularly in open-pit mining environments. By integrating severity, occurrence, and detection indicators, a 3D risk assessment matrix was developed. Using data from conveyor system maintenance, including downtime and failure occurrences, chi-square tests to analyze system reliability and mean downtime were applied. The methodology allows for a nuanced understanding of the frequency and severity of failures, enabling more informed decision-making about maintenance strategies. The paper highlights the economic implications of system failures and the potential for substantial financial savings through optimized maintenance planning.

AB - Although the mining industry is the oldest one, it is still a major source of pollution with more people hurt or injured than in any other industry, while social conflicts around it are worldwide spread. Namely, mining projects still have direct and indirect environmental impacts and seriously affect land, water, air, biota, and people, while mining equipment focused in this paper has the highest footprint. The reason for the lack of progress in mining industry is the most likely the fact that in current research streams technology-centered design dominates. Our novel Smart Miner concept aims to create a step toward smart, ergonomic and sustainable mining machinery workplaces. It proposes a paradigm shift from pure technology to a Human and Data-Centric Engineering, which could be easily transferred to other industries, and develops solutions for raising the level of environmental quality in complex interactions between phys- ical, behavioral and organizational processes field, by matching advanced operator I4.0&5.0 and society S5.0 standards.

An original idea approval route starts with mining machinery operator wellbeing in its microenvironment and its cyclical alignment with stakeholders in the value chain. After development of smart, ergonomic, non-invasive and reliable operator aid systems for regulation of physical environment job stressors - noise, human vibration, lighting, temperature, air quality, workplace layout issues etc., which solve environmental and human health issues and influence overall performance, research passes to operator macroenvironment determined by organizational contextual factors, which also impair sustainable development results. Micro and macro levels are planned to be connected and balanced by real time analytics to fit high sustainability performance indicators in novel, flexible and scalable system, aimed to increasing productivity and production together with reducing emissions and decrease of accidents rate.

AB - Quality of air in the cabin of transportation vehicle is of high importance due to increase in globalization that hinders rise of transportation of goods worldwide. The largest source of streets pollution in urban areas is vehicular combustion, constituted mainly of gaseous pollutants such as CO2, CO, oxides of nitrogen (NOx), ozone, and particles such as ultra-fine particulate matter (UFP). Drivers of heavy-duty vehicles (HDV) are spending both their working and free time in vehicle cabins, making then highly exposed to toxic gases and hazardous aerosols. Intensive industrial development is more concentrated in metropolitan areas, and since it still relies on fossil fuels energy, it results in high pollution of air with traf- fic-related air pollutants (TRAPs). Primary sources of UFPs in the urban environment near road sites are caused by HDV, and they enter cabin air through windows, accumulating in the cabin air and on the surfaces, resulting of up to three times higher concentration of TRAPs in cabin than outdoor air. Exposures to high CO2, NOx and UFP can significantly reduce decision-making performance and is main cause of premature deaths of HDV drivers. Sedimentation of UFP onto filter surfaces, long filter exposure times, and high temperatures within cabins cause decrease of air-flow within the filter and drastic decrease of filtering efficiency. By combining experimental results obtained from in-filed measurements performed in the city of Belgrade, during peak traffic hours, for filtration systems (AFS) placed at different positions within the cabins, obtained master present role of air filtration systems. Using analytical approach of experimental results, we propose mathematical model that describes AFS efficiency on cabin pollution mitigation. Predicted results are in close agreement with the experimental data showing that outdoor to cabin pollutants concentration is possible to estimate as it depends on and terrain design, filtration time and thermodynamic parameters within cabin. We hope that this research rises organizational attention to the health and welfare of HDV drivers.

AB - Previous research shows that Kaizen's benefits are multiple and evident,
but its practices in the supply chain have been sufficiently examined now.
Conversely, we are witnessing numerous issues in contemporary global
supply networks. In this survey, after conducting a literature review, three
research questions regarding Kaizen modes of usage were formulated and
tested on the sample of 195 enterprises that are part of the global supply
chain, located in 31 countries, and active in two different types of
industries – aircraft, and transportation. A combined approach containing
descriptive statistics, reliability, factor analysis, and statistical hypothesis
testing by Kruskal-Wallis one-way ANOVA and Mann-Whitney U tests
were used. Results show significant differences between Kaizen practices
applied in countries such as Italy, the United Kingdom, Canada, the USA,
Japan, and China, where national and corporate cultures differ. Kaizen
implementation significantly differs between companies operating in the
aircraft and transportation sectors, which is unsurprising since aircraft
industry has a higher formalization level. The goal to determine the
differences in Kaizen practices around the globe was fulfilled since
statistically significant differences indicate the importance of the
contextual factors and connect adverse and Kaizen events.

AB - Two-level risk mapping and assessment methodology was proposed with several criteria for risk prioritization (frequency of occurrence, downtime, level of danger, type of stoppage, cause of downtime, risk number). In a period of one year all stoppages, both planned and unplanned, were monitored and later on classified by type into: technological, mechanical, electrical, stoppages caused by the machine operator, external stoppages, which include stoppages of machine inactivity due to weather conditions and the like. The methodology proposed is oriented towards the calculation of risks to people, property, etc., which arise from various types of downtime. Then, based on the recording of data on stoppages of the observed machine, the structure of the share of individual stoppages was analyzed and appropriate measures to prevent
incidents/accidents were recommended. The main causes of stoppages are isolated based on the frequency of occurrence, the percentage of the downtime duration in the total time spent and the level of danger. The primary cause of stoppages according to the mentioned criteria is the rupture of the hose in the observed machine with percentage participation in the duration of mechanical stoppages of 25.17%, with a frequency of 25% and a degree of danger of 6, while repairing the rod clamp is the second causal factor singled out as important from the risk aspect. Thanks to this, it is possible to plan maintenance activities and manage risks in an adequate way. The proposal for further research is further performance prediction and the determination of optimum operating parameters for different working conditions.

AB - Risk management of engineering systems is of vital importance, but very often there
is no enough data to quantitatively evaluate risk and accordingly create risk management
strategy. Proper maintenance of excavators and bulldozers maximizes fuel efficiency and
reduces operating costs, as well as reduces equipment failure and enhances safety. Accordingly,
previous research opens avenue to analyze these two machinery types when working in mining
industry. This paper aims to create statistical comparisons on data collected about excavators’
and bulldozers’ as technological failure/stoppage, electrical failure/stoppage, mechanical
failure/stoppage, misuse, organizational failure/stoppage and external cause of
failure/stoppage. After performing descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing has not found
significant differences between technological failures/stoppages of excavators vs. bulldozers,
mechanical failures/stoppages between already mentioned machines or theirs hazard degrees
or total downtimes. Further research focus should be directed to the sample enlargement and
further analysis, which is expected to prove preliminary results.

AB - Risk based approach has been proven in generating utility in the mining industry by multiple authors. However, most of the previous research has focused on heavy machinery, neglecting the impact that auxiliary machines have in overall risk management. The following study aims to propose a risk assessment methodology for auxiliary machinery in open-pit mines based on the analysis of a hydraulic excavator maintenance data. The overall risk was defined in accordance with the FMEA method, as a product of three partial indicators: severity, occurrence and detection of failures. Failure type distribution and distinction were illustrated via Pareto chart with the goal to rate the detection indicator. The chi-square tests of downtime and time between failure data were following and enabled analytical determination of the system’s reliability and mean downtime, which led to evaluating the severity and occurrence of failures. Accordingly, framework for evaluation was proposed with a three dimensional risk assessment matrix as a result and proved on collected data.

AB - During the last couple of decades, there was a definitive increase in the need for process safety control due to working conditions and systems becoming more complex, up to a point where the existing methodologies could no longer provide satisfying results. Hence, the topic of this paper involves the development of an original methodology for risk assessment of pressure equipment, based on fracture mechanics and the influence of human and organizational factors. This methodology resulted from the systemization of existing knowledge in the filed of process safety, innovations and integration of existing tools and models for risk assessment, as well as from improvements in working with pressure equipment in general and combining of above approaches with fracture mechanics, which allowed the solving of main issues that existed in these fields. This was achieved by establishing and verifying new methodologies and models, with particular focus on simplicity and adaptability to practical application, along with solving of problems related to the lack of systematic and practical approach to assessing of the influence of human and organizational factors on risk. In order to verify the newly proposed methodology, a case study was conducted in Serbia, related to Bajina Bašta hydropower plant, which confirmed the accuracy and simplicity of the methodology in question. It was shown that the application of this methodology enabled a systematic approach to quantitative risk assessment for pressure equipment in any and all companies which work with such equipment, regardless of their size or field of work. Thus, it was concluded that the proposed methodology has offered valuable insights, both to the scientific and public communities, through its improvement of process safety.

The initial data that was used to develop the app was collected using the questionnaire in which employees, segmented in five different organizational levels (e.g. transport and mining machines operators, support workers, first line managers, middle level managers and top level managers), were assessing the present state and the importance of each of the investigated safety indicators.
Based on this initial database the starting measurement model was developed that was used to develop the application which calculate the resilience levels of the organizations, based on adequate MCDA methods and four resilience corners approach.

AB - For the production planning process to be successful, an enterprise's internal business processes
must be effective and efficient, while the DMAIC cycle is important aspect of practice-based continuous
improvement. In accordance to those facts, this preliminary research includes the first part of the DMAIC
methodology - “define“ and “measure“ tools, applied to a case study in automotive industry, with the aim of
improving production planning processes. Analysis in “define“ phase starts with SIPOC, continues with
calculation of critical indicators in “measure“ phase and is followed by Pareto charts. Research shows that
the existing method of manual collection of production data is not precise enough, and during two months
observation period, between 14 and 52 percent of planned production time on 9 observed machines, passed
as unnoticed downtime. Further data analysis showed that this time is 1.5 to 9 times higher than the total
reported downtime on individual machines. Results show that the further development of data collection
tools is crucial, and the recommendation is to move in the direction of automation of that process in order
to make the most of available technical resources, in “improve“ phase and to “control“ it by statistical
comparison of previous and new state indicators

AB - There are rare studies carried regarding the assessment of the anthropometric convenience of transport and mining machinery. The first aim of this paper is to examine if there are differences between transport and mining machinery operators from the aspect of foot controls, the second aim is to compare the most common causes of downtime and failure and the third aim is to compare if there are differences in the field of injuries at work of both machinery types. Samples of 31 transport and 65 mining machinery operators were examined. Analysis is done by using descriptive statistics, the Kolmogorov test for normality, Mann–Whitney U test, and Pareto analysis. Comparison of operators’ height and weight, vibrations feeling through the foot controls and its easiness to be reached and used/controlled and injuries rates have not shown statistically significant differences found between transport and mining machinery. Pareto analysis on failures and stoppages of both types of machinery found completely different causes in the field of “vital few”. Anyhow, since statistically proved facts show that there are no differences regarding safety and human factors issues it could be indicated to designers that there is the possibility of applying the same innovative solutions to both types of mechanization in the field of foot controls.

AB - For mining processes to operate safely, information about safety is crucial. Numerous authors pay attention to fostering a good safety climate without paying attention to safety communication across organizational structure, which motivates this survey. Accordingly, this paper aims to check the hypothesis whether there is a difference between the attitudes of managers, operators, and auxiliary workers in the mining industry regarding safety communication, since differences on their attitudes about safety communication issues have potential to cause safety performance. A survey of 123 respondents working in different positions in Serbian mining companies, which have evaluated the importance of communication as well as the current state regarding the quality of communication in their organizations, was conducted. After evaluating the data and conducting descriptive statistics, followed by the Mann-Whitney test, it was determined that there are no statistically significant differences in the attitudes of managers, operators, and support staff toward safety communication. This indicates that issues with an organization's safety performance are not brought on by the differences on safety attitudes at different hierarchical levels. Proposal for the future research is to examine other possible causes, such as cognitive biases in risk perception, safety training and education and similar, and to use larger sample that may confirm our hypothesis.

AB - The process of assembling micro components requires careful planning where precise and reliable data
collecting is necessary due to a short production cycle time. After determining the shortages of the
current data monitoring system, in this paper, by using the „Improve“ and „Control“ phases of DMAIC
cycle, the development and later testing of a new tool for automatic capture and analysis of data obtained
from the machine was done. SWOT analysis was used to establish the production site's and current
manufacturing execution system strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats, which were then
utilized to create the newly developed solution accurate and feasible. A tool calibration data was
obtained on 9 machines in automotive company's micro component assembly unit. To confirm the
accuracy of the data, a RunAtRate test was done on the machines, and by using hypothesis testing, the
initial reliability of the new solution was determined. Further testing and comparison revealed that the
newly proposed tool recorded 73-80% greater downtime and 40-50% more defective parts than the
previously installed system. Accordingly, the usefulness of the proposed Lean Six Sigma tool is
confirmed, and for periodic accuracy checks and further improve.ment, it is necessary to apply the PDCA
cycle.

AB - Heavy mobile machinery cabs and their equipment are still not well adjusted to operators, so it is not surprising that we are still witnessing huge consequences of accidents at sites where they operate. The checklist with 39 questions, based on the previous research, is formed, and its’ measurement structure has been tested on the sample of 102 transport, construction, and mining machines, including cranes, excavators, bucket wheel excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, backhoe loaders, trenchers, dump trucks, and scrapers by correlation analysis, Cronbach’s alpha, Spearman-Brown and Kendall’s W coefficient, exploratory factor analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis. The results validate the measurement structure of a checklist with only 17 items and five constructs. The results show that special attention should be put to the design of armrests and working conditions/exhaust gases, which are negatively correlated to cab interior space and task visibility. All other correlations between seat characteristics, the characteristics of armrests, whole-body vibration influences, reaching commands, the characteristics of cab interior space and environments, and interpersonal relationships are positive, which means that improvements to one area lead to improvements in another. Accordingly, the proposed model should be used for the fast, efficient, and cost-effective evaluation of ergonomics risks and as a guideline for further cab design improvements.

AB - Nowadays, fossil fuels are used in a clearly unsustainable way that can bring potentially catastrophic consequences. Electricity is currently delivered to end users by generation and energy transmission companies. Previous research shows that the development of modern circular economy sets a need for the re-orientation of socio and economic development of decentralized systems, including energy basis. In addition to being ecological, the use of renewable energy sources also has economic significance by contributing to energy independence. Citizens, industries, local and national authorities become interconnected within emerging novel renewable energy sourcing communities, through which they establish trade of energy and, most importantly, models of investing and reshaping the distribution of renewable energy. The modern portfolio management of renewable energy networking is aiming toward decentralized systems of trade, where the consumer becomes a producer (prosumer) within the network, itself managed by users. Excess energy produced in the micro-grid nets within the over-arching national and transnational energy grid should be accounted for and managed with blockchain technology for financial and structural security. The decentralization of the energy market requires the establishment of strict norms that will regulate the market and taxation of profits arising. The extensive literature review on blockchain in the energy sector reflects a very pragmatic and narrow approach to the topic, although it is evident that the distribution of energy within the blockchain would enable economic development through reducing cost and ensuring more secure energy trade. Blockchain technology embeds the related digital codes, in which information will be visible to all, but also secured from hacking and duplicating. However, there are challenges to this paradigm, not least the energy consumption of the extensive nodal mesh required to perform the necessary protocols. This paper aims to provide an overview of the application of blockchain technology and the need for the development of the regulatory system and of potential solutions to the challenges posed. By undertaking an energy consumption analysis of blockchain implementation from first electronic principles, which has not been constructed before in the literature, this paper’s conclusion stresses the future demand for reducing energy consumption and considers the latest findings in the quantum coupling of light signals as a potential for solving the enormous ledger duplication structure problem.

AB - The contingent/contextual approach to the theory and practice of the organization arose in the 60s of the previous century, and its verification and empirical improvement are still ongoing, with increasing topicality and the presence of an increasingly strong trend of quantifying the influence of contingent/contextual factors and the increasing complexity of research with the same aim - it is expected that by mastering the effect of given factors, the overall efficiency of the company can be increased and that standardization in this field can bring great benefits. So far, the best researched and quantified is the impact of company size and technology on organizational structure factors. However, a large number of interdependencies are still not resolved among contingent factors, such as: a) the connection of decentralization with other contingent factors - company size, environment, etc., b) the influence of digitalization on the range of management, c) the direction of the influence of the degree of mass production on the number of hierarchical levels, d) the impact of innovation as a part of strategy on the organizational structure and many others. Various authors try to solve the above-mentioned questions, but the conclusions between them have not been confirmed so far; what's more, numerous results are released to the scientific public, which are mutually contradictory, as shown in the tabular presentation in the paper. In particular, the contribution of the latest version of the ISO 9001 standard from 2015, which for the first time recognizes the context in the given area, should be highlighted. Finally, it can be concluded that the empirical verification and theoretical enrichment of the contingent theory has been going on for decades, with the presence of an increasingly strong trend of quantifying the impact of contingent factors and the increasing complexity of research with the same goal - it is expected that mastering the effect of contingent factors can increase the overall efficiency of the company.

AB - A company’s development performance and growth may be impacted by a wide range
of different factors, which unquestionably affect number of the employees in the loop. Taking into
account all influencing factors, companies would benefit if have possibility to predict the degree of
change in the number of employees in future period in order to adjust their internal strategy or to
make appropriate decisions that enable the survival and progress of the company in the market. The
aim of this research is to predict the change in number of employees based on current state of
contingency and quality management factors, using information obtained from a survey of 67
different companies from Serbia. In the first part of the research, a correlation analysis is used with
the aim to identify the specific contingency and quality management factors that are most closely
associated to the subject of interest, which is, in this case, degree of change in the number of
employes. The second part of the research involves feedforward neural network training for
prediction of the degree of change in number of employees based on feature extraction of main
factors. The training accuracy that proposed network achieved is 77.36%, while testing accuracy
amounts 71.43%.
