THE APPLICATION OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN SPACE EXPLORATION

There is a growing interest in cosmic space in the world. Many countries have joined the space race
driven by different motives and ambitions. To achieve desired goals, they intensified technological development,
particularly focusing on exploiting the potential provided by the application of artificial intelligence (AI). After
explaining the basic concept of artificial intelligence, the authors in this paper explore its application as part of
space exploration. The analysis shows that technology based on artificial intelligence is widely applied within
complex cosmic missions and follow-up operations and that there is a strong possibility that the application
range could expand further in the future. In addition to evident examples from the practice and research
examining various application possibilities, as evidenced by considerable investments in the sector, as well as the
special attention that some countries give to the aerospace industry.
