Corrosion Damage and Repair Welding of Pressure Vessels
Abstract
Corrosion damage of two pressure vessels is shown in this paper. Both vessels were joined by a system of connected pipes, and one of them contained water-air as a working fluid, whereas the other contained only air. Due to inadequate anti-corrosion protection of inner vessel walls, corrosion developed within them, in part due to the fact that the working fluids (air and water-air) contribute to occurrence of corrosion. Both pressure vessels were made using the same materials. The mantle was made of hot-rolled structural steel S235JRG2 sheets, whereas the lids were made of P265GH steel. After the damages have been removed, the damaged surfaces were repaired. The manual arc welding (MAW) procedure was selected for the purpose of repair welding, in accordance to the prescribed technology. Also requirements that must be fulfilled in order to successfully perform the selected repair technology and ensure that the repaired vessel can be put back in exploitation are presented.
