The development of new generation manufacturing systems and super-fast personal computers has stimulated a more frequent use of machine parts with free form surfaces in all engineering areas. The usage of free form surfaces is mostly inspired by either functional or aesthetic requirements, but also very often both. When it comes to the design and development of free form surfaces, CAD/CAM systems have proved themselves absolutely indispensable. This paper shows the procedure and the software developed for automatic selection of tool and cutting parameters for milling machine parts with free form surfaces using ball end mill.
