JLB (cleavage lower bound toughness) assessment performed by testing of a single specimen represents a reliable method for evaluating of the lower limit based on one or more fracture toughness results, with considerable scatter. This method can be used to assess he lower limit in the transition area via single specimen testing for each required temperature. Method gives the best estimates for small specimens, which are characterized by significant result scatter and might be considered of upper bound reliability. In this paper, the fracture probabilities of specimens in function of fracture toughness were determined as well, and it could be concluded that the widest specimens are the most likely to be broken for the same values of the fracture toughness.
