Modeling of two-phase flow and heat transfer in the vertical steam generator

In this paper, a numerical model for simulation of two-phase flow thermal-hydraulics in
the vertical steam generator is being presented. The applied model is based on: continuity,
momentum and energy conservation equations, written for each phase and applied to the shell side
flow. Interphase transfer phenomena are being modeled using the closure laws. Analysis of heat
transfer process between the primary and secondary fluid is being performed, including the effects
of nucleate boiling, subcooled boiling, and forced convection mechanisms. Additionally, effects of
usage of different correlations for modeling of interphase friction force, presently found in
commercial CFD codes, are being presented and comparatively analyzed. Results obtained by the
numerical simulation are compared with measured data that is found in the referenced literature and
the satisfying accuracy is being achieved. The presented model serves as the supportive
construction tool and offers detai...led visualization of thermal-hydraulics phenomena in the vertical
steam generator.
