USERS BEHAVIOR INFLUENCE ON ENERGY CONSUMPTION FROMDISTRICT HEATING SYSTEM

Abstract

This paper presents the results of measured heat consumption for heating in apartments incharacteristic buildings in New Belgrade, which is supplied by district heating systems.Measurements of heat consumed for heating began in the heating season 2002/03, aftersubstation reconstruction and installation of thermostatic valves and allocators on radiators.Special attention is paid to the apartments of the same type, size, geometry, orientation andposition in the building and have the same installed radiator capacity, nevertheless theydiffer in annual energy consumption for heating. In some flats, heat consumption is aboveaverage, while there are some flats, which from year to year have heat consumption belowthe average values. For this reason, the simulation of heat consumption for heating is donefor a base model that is calibrated according to the average measured heat consumption,using weather data for a typical meteorological year in Belgrade. Other models, includingthe behavior of users and maintaining different levels of thermal comfort are givenconcurrently with the basic model. A comparative analysis shows the differences in energyconsumption for heating per year in the function of users’ behavior. Additional, theanalysis of the costs for heating is done by using consumed energy data in comparison withthe price of heating per square meter of flat.
