Aluminium alloys have attractive physical-mechanical properties and due to this their application in the production of internal combustion engines is increasingly present. This especially refers to the engine cylinder blocks and engine cylinder liner – piston system that is the heart of internal combustion engines. However, most of those alloys do not have satisfactory wear resistance. At this moment, one of possible solutions to improve tribological characteristics of aluminium alloys are coatings deposited on parts of the cylinder liner-piston system. This paper examines plasma deposition process and laser treatment of coating materials.
