Design of the questionnaire for the assessment of the comfort of Urban city buses

Abstract

The comfort of buses is an important component that contributes to the overall quality of urban bus transport. For the assessment of the comfort of the interior of buses, it is necessary to use an adequate instrument. Analysis of the literature on this subject has shown that there is not a tool that allows a comprehensive assessment of comfort of the interior of buses for urban passenger transport. Most of the questionnaires only partially involve this aspect, within a broader context of the analysis of urban bus transport quality. Considering this, a new questionnaire is presented here, which in a comprehensive way incorporates various components that affect the comfort of passengers. This ergonomic questionnaire contains 8 sections related to the bus interior comfort and 50 questions. In addition, this questionnaire contains the anthropometric aspect of comfort, which is not considered by any other questionnaire. The application of this questionnaire enables researchers and supervisors to detect various defects in the design of the bus interior. Results that can be obtained, based on the application of this questionnaire, can be of great benefit to firms that design buses, as well as to companies and institutions participating in the organization of public bus transport.
