For most of golden jewels the desired property is the shining surface. From the other point of view, high level of shining leads to great reflectance of impinged beams from a surface. It means that when a laser beam is used, it will be reflected, sometimes up to 97%. Such a reflectance produces very low absorptivity, and from point of view of laser beam welding this behavior is not acceptable. Such problem does not exist in other welding techniques, for example in gas welding as one of the oldest and still dominant techniology in jewel production. Anyhow, in last decades, the laser beam technique has shown an increased application, also for welding or engraving the golden jewels. Many problems regarding to application of laser technique in golden jewels production has not yet well explained. Here is made an atempt to explain and solve problems regarding high reflectance of laser beams from a shining golden surface.
