AB - This paper looks into the spatial dispositions of the classroom and its immediate surroundings in elementary schools, with the goal of defining a broad learning space, in accordance with modern intentions in pedagogy. The starting assumption is that the learning space may offer versatility and a variety of options in the educational process. In the development of the spatial model two key contributing factors have been taken into account: the implications of the modern educational process and potential spatial characteristics. Various levels of spatial interrelationship are considered between the classroom and the adjacent classroom, the break-out space, communication area, social activity zones, and the outdoor classroom. Accordingly, by using the modelling method, a conceptual spatial model of the classroom and its immediate surroundings is defined such that it can receive specific applications in the design of elementary schools.

AB - Recently, by following the results on characterization of positive quadrature formulae by Peherstorfer, we proposed a new (2l + 1)-point quadrature rule (G) over cap (2l + 1), referred to as a generalized averaged Gaussian quadrature rule. This rule has 2l + 1 nodes and the nodes of the corresponding Gauss rule G(l) with l nodes form a subset. This is similar to the situation for the (2l + 1)-point Gauss-Kronrod rule H2l + 1 associated with G(l). An attractive feature of (G) over cap (2l + 1) is that it exists also when H2l + 1 does not. The numerical construction, on the basis of recently proposed effective numerical procedures, of (G) over cap (2l + 1) is simpler than the construction of H2l + 1. A disadvantage might be that the algebraic degree of precision of (G) over cap (2l + 1) is 2l + 2, while the one of H2l + 1 is 3l + 1. Consider a (nonnegative) measure ds with support in the bounded interval [a, b] such that the respective orthogonal polynomials, above a specific index r, satisfy a three-term recurrence relation with constant coefficients. For l >= 2r -1, we show that (G) over cap (2l + 1) has algebraic degree of precision at least 3l + 1, and therefore it is in fact H2l + 1 associated with G(l). We derive some interesting equalities for the corresponding orthogonal polynomials.

AB - The paper presents a realistic and necessary improvement of the existing current-voltage model for surrounding-gate MOSFETs. The basic model exploits the closed-form solution of Poisson's equation and drift-diffusion model of carrier transport. The model proposed in this paper does not ignore the effect of mobility degradation due to electric field in the channel. The effects of channel length modulation and carriers' velocity saturation are discussed as well.

AB - Geometry analysis of the axial fan impeller, experimentally obtained operating characteristics and experimental investigations of the turbulent swirl flow generated behind the impeller are presented in this paper. Formerly designed and manufactured, axial fan impeller blade geometry (originally designed by Prof Dr-Ing. Z. Protic(dagger)) has been digitized using a three-dimensional scanner. In parallel, the same impeller has been modeled by beta version software for modeling axial turbomachines, based on modified classical calculation. These results were compared. Afterwards, the axial fan operating characteristics were measured on the standardized test rig in the Laboratory for Hydraulic Machinery and Energy Systems, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Belgrade. Optimum blade impeller position was determined on the basis of these results. Afterwards, impeller with angle 22 without outlet vanes, was positioned in a circular pipe. Rotational speed has been varied in the range from 500 till 2500 rpm. Reynolds numbers generated in this way, calculated for axial velocity component, was in the range from 0.68.10(5) till 2.5.10(5). Laser Doppler anemometry measurements and stereo particle image velocimetry measurements of the three-dimensional velocity field in the swirl turbulent fluid flow behind the axial fan have been performed for each regime. Obtained results point out extraordinary complexity of the structure of generated three-dimensional turbulent velocity fields.

AB - The interest in biomaterials surface technology has led to an investigation of rigid gas permeable contact lens inner surface using scanning probe microscopy for measurement. Topography and phase images were recorded in order to investigate surface roughness and properties after an extended period of contact lens wearing. Analysis is based on fractal approach incorporated with MatLab software for image processing. The fractal dimension, calculated by skyscrapers method, is used for surface identification and subsequently for surface behavior explanation. The authors' aim is to point out that time is merely a commercial category for rigid gas permeable contact lens replacement and that only significant changes in surface properties render such replacement necessary.
