AB - There are rare studies carried regarding the assessment of the anthropometric convenience of transport and mining machinery. The first aim of this paper is to examine if there are differences between transport and mining machinery operators from the aspect of foot controls, the second aim is to compare the most common causes of downtime and failure and the third aim is to compare if there are differences in the field of injuries at work of both machinery types. Samples of 31 transport and 65 mining machinery operators were examined. Analysis is done by using descriptive statistics, the Kolmogorov test for normality, Mann–Whitney U test, and Pareto analysis. Comparison of operators’ height and weight, vibrations feeling through the foot controls and its easiness to be reached and used/controlled and injuries rates have not shown statistically significant differences found between transport and mining machinery. Pareto analysis on failures and stoppages of both types of machinery found completely different causes in the field of “vital few”. Anyhow, since statistically proved facts show that there are no differences regarding safety and human factors issues it could be indicated to designers that there is the possibility of applying the same innovative solutions to both types of mechanization in the field of foot controls.

AB - Heavy mobile machinery cabs and their equipment are still not well adjusted to operators, so it is not surprising that we are still witnessing huge consequences of accidents at sites where they operate. The checklist with 39 questions, based on the previous research, is formed, and its’ measurement structure has been tested on the sample of 102 transport, construction, and mining machines, including cranes, excavators, bucket wheel excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, backhoe loaders, trenchers, dump trucks, and scrapers by correlation analysis, Cronbach’s alpha, Spearman-Brown and Kendall’s W coefficient, exploratory factor analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis. The results validate the measurement structure of a checklist with only 17 items and five constructs. The results show that special attention should be put to the design of armrests and working conditions/exhaust gases, which are negatively correlated to cab interior space and task visibility. All other correlations between seat characteristics, the characteristics of armrests, whole-body vibration influences, reaching commands, the characteristics of cab interior space and environments, and interpersonal relationships are positive, which means that improvements to one area lead to improvements in another. Accordingly, the proposed model should be used for the fast, efficient, and cost-effective evaluation of ergonomics risks and as a guideline for further cab design improvements.

AB - As industrial systems represent a complex socio-technical system, it is necessary to analyse the impact of manager-operator-machine interaction on industrial safety, as categories of contextual factors. However, modern scientific literature indicates insufficient research on this topic. This paper has an aim to empirically analyse behavioural style and transport and mining machines operators’ attitudes in the safety climate context. Participants in this study were 28 crane’s and 65 mining machinery’s (excavators, bucket wheel excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, backhoe loaders, trenchers, dump trucks and scrapers) operators working in Serbian industrial companies. In the first step there is conducted descriptive statistics and followed by Kolmogorov’s and U* Mann-Whitney test to examine differences. Obtained results have shown that there were not statistically significant differences both between attitudes of operators on those two kinds of machines, namely, there are no statistically significant differences in terms of absenteeism due to poor working conditions, atmosphere of cooperation and togetherness among operators and the ways in which managers motivate and reward them. Between numbers of injuries at work happened by both machines’ types used there are no statistical differences, too. Also, further factor analysis has shown that examined operators’ and machines’ characteristics divide into two factors – one is focused to anthropometric characteristics presented by height and weight while another is focused on age of operator and machine and operator’s experience. It is recommended, in future research to enlarge sample, repeat statistical testing and analyse wider set of variables on examined matters in aim to discover pattern of anthropometric factors influence on behavioural factors.

AB - Although the biggest advancements could be expected from the mining industry as the
oldest one, it is still a major source of air pollution, there are more people hurt or injured than in
any other industry, while social conflicts around it are worldwide spread. The reason for the lack
of expected progress in the area is the most likely the fact that current research streams vary
barely focus to human and organizational factors, but technology-centered design dominates,
while risk management analysis are rarely applied. The probable reason is proper record keeping.
The aim of this paper is to present the data collected on downtimes of backhoe loaders, to propose
the methodology to be applied and show and analyze results obtained on its down time analysis
and risk management. This research analyzed the structure of downtime and consequences during
a period of one year of two backhoe loader working in mining site in Serbia. Downtimes were
classified as technological downtime, power / electricity downtime, mechanical downtime, misuse
due to abuse, organizational downtime and downtime due to external influences. In this research,
the frequencies of downtime were monitored by the stated categories of downtime. The
consequences of the identified delays were then assessed, and the risk calculated. By analyzing
the types of downtime by systems, it was determined that the priority action measures in order to
mitigate the risk of specific construction machines should be aimed at protecting workers during
technological operations of installing turbines, rear arms and the like. Although mechanical
downtime had the largest share in the risk calculation, the risk map for specific machines clearly
indicates that the technological procedures of assembly and disassembly are the most critical in
terms of risk.

AB - Nowadays, safety and sustainable business success cannot be viewed in isolation. Risk assessment is a
prerequisite for adequate planning of prevention of destruction of critical potentials, as well as preparation of a
strategy for response to failure in the context of prevention of consequences. An important part of all
construction equipment maintenance is proper record keeping, but it is not done often in practice although it is a
prerequisite of proper risk management. Proper maintenance of excavators maximizes fuel efficiency and
reduces operating costs as well as equipment failure. The aim of this paper is to present the missing facts, to

AB - Although Professor Vukan Dešić’s brilliance is evidently important on a global scale, unfortunately, not much has been written about his biography and contribution to the scientific field so far, and thus not much is known, as stated by Janko Cvijanović in the text “A Tribute to Professor Vukan Dešić 1906-1975” published in 2011[8]. This overview paper first aims to outline and consolidate all the biographical facts available today in libraries and archives, and then list the teaching, scientific and professional contributions made by Professor Vukan Dešić during his fruitful life. Nowadays, it is extremely important to emphasize the relevance of the pioneering contributions of Professor Dešić, because there can be no bright future without respect for the past. Bearing in mind that Professor Dešić opened up the path into a deeper understanding of the scientific organization of work, at least in the European area, as a sign of gratitude to our founder, we write this paper and dedicate the 8th International Conference of Industrial Engineering – SIE 2022 to him, pointing out especially to the following contributions of our “teacher”: 1) his contribution to the development of higher education through performing the functions of the Vice-rector, Dean and Rector at the University of Belgrade and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering; 2) his contribution to the development of railways as the general manager of the Yugoslav State Railways and assistant to the Minister of Railways, i.e. Transport; 3) the fact that, as early as in 1949, he developed the course in Scientific Organization of Work and founded the Department for Scientific Organization of Work at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Belgrade exactly 70 years ago; 4) the fact that he is responsible for the establishment of the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering, an initiator of the founding of the Faculty of Organizational Sciences and the Technical College of Mechanical Engineering; 5) his contribution to the development of scientific fields as a head and/or founder of a large number of institutes and scientific associations (e.g. Centre for Multidisciplinary Studies, Yugoslav Society of Mechanics); 6) his numerous scientific and professional contributions of tremendous importance, with special emphasis on the fact that he is the founder of the contingent theory of organization, the creator of an innovative Complex Analytical Method, which seriously raised the level of organization of the Yugoslav companies at the time, the forerunner of the invention of Ishikawa, and a serious critic of Taylor’s contributions, who refuted the premises laid by Henry Town as the foundations of management and organization.

abstract = "Although Professor Vukan Dešić’s brilliance is evidently important on a global scale, unfortunately, not much has been written about his biography and contribution to the scientific field so far, and thus not much is known, as stated by Janko Cvijanović in the text “A Tribute to Professor Vukan Dešić 1906-1975” published in 2011[8]. Centre for Multidisciplinary Studies, Yugoslav Society of Mechanics); 6) his numerous scientific and professional contributions of tremendous importance, with special emphasis on the fact that he is the founder of the contingent theory of organization, the creator of an innovative Complex Analytical Method, which seriously raised the level of organization of the Yugoslav companies at the time, the forerunner of the invention of Ishikawa, and a serious critic of Taylor’s contributions, who refuted the premises laid by Henry Town as the foundations of management and organization.",

AB - Research related to risk management of failures and stoppages in the operation of bulldozer is very limited, so this topic needs more attention. This study aims to identify all possible causes for bulldozer failures and stoppages before highlighting the most significant ones. Descriptive statistics are provided, followed by a scatterplot for the dissipation diagram between hazard rate and bulldozer failure and stoppages, and histograms of hazard rate and failures and stoppages for bulldozers. Then, for three categories, a Pareto analysis was performed on failures and stoppages frequency, time spent in failures and stoppages, and failures and stoppages risk level. The Pareto analysis revealed that the most important failures and stoppages in all three categories were caused by heating repair, oil change, bulldozer cleaning, tonsil adjustment, filter replacement, hose replacement and screw replacement. The step towards “maintenance free factories” should include planning of identified activities in work breaks as preventive rather than corrective activities

AB - The aim of this paper is to compare Serbian and Libyan anthropometric measurements, such as foot length, standing height, sitting height, lower leg length, upper leg length, shoulder width, hip breadth, arm length and body weight, on the basis of samples of 1197 Serbians and 400 Libyans which have been collected. Further statistical analysis have been conducted to explore the effect of large mixed data on the anthropometric measurements, and their patterns, which facilitates the interior space design of vehicles and cabins used by both males and females, in order to establish a model that could be fit to multi-users. The measurements of the sample for the Serbian
population have more statistically significant correlations than the Libyan sample has. Serbian sample has significant differences only in three measurements while there were reverse results for the Libyan sample. Absolute, significant differences were found between all compared anthropometric measurements at a significance level of p<0.001. The mean and median values and z test results show that the Serbian sample has higher values than the Libyan sample, excluding for shoulder width which has very close values.

AB - BACKGROUND: Previous research has shown that the collection and analysis of crane operators' anthropometric characteristics is very important for operators' comfort, health and working ability and also from the aspect of performance, productivity and safety. OBJECTIVE: The first aim of this survey is to collect up-to-date anthropometric data of crane operators in Serbia and to collect those data for the first time in Libya. The second aim of this survey is to compare the collected data. The third aim is to model the interior space necessary to accommodate operators in the cabins they operate in Serbia and Libya. METHODS: Standing height, sitting height, lower leg length, upper leg length, shoulder width, hip breadth, arm length, foot length and weight data were collected of 83 Serbian and 50 Libyan crane operators. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and tests for differences between variables were conducted to examine differences between Serbian and Libyan crane operators and enable further modeling. The modeling of the cabin interior was done using both univariate and multivariate operators' models from both samples. RESULTS: There are only four common correlations between variables for both samples. The only measurement without statistical differences is shoulder width. Serbian crane operators have statistically higher values of almost all measurements in comparison to Libyans. The minimal cabin interior space dimensions are 1207 x 1080 x 1884 mm for Serbian operators and 1106 x 1040 x 1790 mm for Libyan operators when using univariate approach, while multivariate approach provides more precise and comfortable accommodation within 1327 x 1123 x 1926 mm for Serbian operators and 1203 x 1090 x 1830 mm for Libyan operators. Accordingly, our survey shows that percentile models include less than the intended population proportion in the design problem with few dimensions and depends on correlations among them. CONCLUSIONS: A number of problems are solved through modeling the crane operator workspace and it has been shown that cabins with different dimensions have to be offered to Serbian and Libyan markets.

abstract = "BACKGROUND: Previous research has shown that the collection and analysis of crane operators' anthropometric characteristics is very important for operators' comfort, health and working ability and also from the aspect of performance, productivity and safety. AB - This paper proposes innovation through “translation” of phonocardiogram signal obtained from electronic stethoscope into an algorithm, procedure and software that gives an opportunity to each primary-care physician either in town or hardly reachable countryside to reliably and cost effectively diagnose mitral valve prolapsed (MVP) without engagement of resources such as highly specialized diagnostic methods that are available only in modern clinical centers, expensive equipment and complex training of experienced cardiologists for interpretation of results together with high maintenance costs analysis its cost-effectiveness. Till now very few research address the cost-effectiveness of various approaches to the patient undergoing medical evaluation, so this paper analyses the economic feasibility of MVP software application through cost-benefit framework. The pay-back period of the invested funds is 4 years and it represents a good investment, while critical sales price is 159 euros per software license and switching number of installations is 429 units.

Following detailed exploration of the available literature, data collection is conducted on 200 production enterprises in multinational supply chain. Upon this, further statistical examination is conducted by comparison of the companies in dependence of its locations - continents. Results show that there are significant differences on dimensions of organizational culture and applied quality improvement procedures depending of geographical location of companies. Accordingly, results of this paper prove that contextual approach promoted in ISO 9001:2015 has to be applied and organizations that operate in different countries and continents must decide how much to localize their organizational culture and related management practices to fit within the host country context.

AB - On the threshold of the 4th industrial revolution this survey is aimed to survey technology and employees behavior interaction, due to the fact that previous research has shown that this topic is not surveyed enough. For instance, recent advances in ICT have allowed manufacturing enterprises to use remotely controlled decentralized manufacturing processes and have led to development of different types of interfaces in the framework of industry 4.0. This paper examines data collected in 119 industrial companies. Modern technology latent variable is described by technological dimensions such as level of automation, level of IT application, and technological level against competitors, while employees behavior concept is described by employees' pro-activity/reactivity, interpersonal relations, collectivism/individualism and decentralization. Statistical examination included descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, factor and reliability analysis. Results show that variables are appropriately described with significant correlation between examined constructs. It could be concluded that upgrading of technological levels forces employment of proactive people with soft culture in industrial companies.

AB - Anthropometric data are essential for designers of products, while hand anthropometric measurements are of special importance due to the fact that grasp enables different manipulation tasks. Literature review shows that differences on anthropometric characteristics of the hand based on laterality in Serbian context have not been examined till now, so this study tested it on the sample containing 110 subjects - 23 left-handed and 87 right-handed. Hand anthropometric measurements include 30 anthropometric dimensions measured on each examined participant. Dimensions are taken by capturing the imprints of the subjects' outstretched hands. Collected data were subjected to descriptive statistics, t-test, Kolmogorov test and Mann-Withney U* tests. Also, 5th and 95th percentiles are calculated on all dimensions. Results show that there are no statistically significant differences based on laterality in Serbian context. Accordingly, hand tools and many other equipment, which are controlled by means of Serbian operator could be designed in the same manner both for workers whose dominant had is left and right. Also, percentiles values are calculated and should be taken into account in design processes. It is recommended, in future research to enlarge sample, repeat statistical testing and analyze hand grasp possible issues.

AB - The crane cabin chair according to the present invention provides comfortable position for an operator both in operating and non-operating regimen. The chair is characterized by ergonomically designed seat and leg support system, suitable for wide range of crane operators (including tall operators, which are the most vulnerable). Ergonomically designed chair has short length seat, with forward slope of 10°, adjustable horizontally and fixed on telescopic mechanism that enable vertical adjustment and the backrest with mechanisms that enable its' inclination and tilting. Leg support systems, containing two carrying, sliding and one supporting transparent frame, during work period is folded under the seat, and during the rest period simultaneously with backrest inclination could be extended to desired length in manner that operator is in lower risk of MSDs and has good vision field.

AB - Crane operators’ job is extremely demanding. They work long hours in constrained
workspaces in awkward posture. Their neck extension, trunk flexion and repetitive arm
movement are associated with an increased risk of developing neck and shoulder pain that
leads to reduced working capacity, quality and safety. The comfortable operator posture could
not be achieved without considering the anthropometric criteria to analyze aspects of seat
comfort, visual displays locations, pedal controls, reaches etc. When proposing novel,
anthropometrically assessed and adjusted seat solutions, it is important to analyze pedal brake
force exerted. In this paper 68 crane operators participated in survey, with task to test novel
seat solution and corresponding exerted pedal brake force. Mark 10 EK3 200 ergonomic test
kit was used to measure pedal brake force. Examined variables included: height and weight
(body mass index), pedal brake force average value, deviation of each three measurements
from average value and absolute measurement error. After descriptive statistics, Spearman's
correlations are calculated. Besides proving novel solution, there also has been found
statistically significant correlation between body mass index and mean value of force, as well
as between BMI and absolute measurement error. It is recommended, in future research to
enlarge sample and repeat statistical testing.

abstract = "Crane operators’ job is extremely demanding.

AB - The collection and analysis of anthropometric characteristics for various passenger car user populations is a very important predecessor of the design process. The first aim of this survey is to collect up-to-date anthropometric data for male passenger car drivers in Serbia and to collect those data for the first time in Libya. The second aim of this survey is to compare the collected data and enable further modeling using both univariate and multivariate operators' models from both samples. Anthropometric measurements on standing height, sitting height, lower leg length, upper leg length, shoulder width, hip breadth, arm length, and foot length were collected for 921 Serbian and 300 Libyan male drivers. Results show that, for Serbian male drivers, a correlation between variables exists in 67.85% cases, while for Libyan male drivers, a correlation between variables exists in 39.28% cases. The comparison of mean values between variables for Serbian and Libyan male drivers showed that, beside shoulder width, all others have significantly higher values for Serbians than for Libyikans. Consequently, there are different interior space dimensions of the vehicle obtained: for Serbian drivers, interior space dimensions amounted to 1500 x 561 x 1230 mm and for Libyan drivers amounted to1400 x 591 x 1155 mm which are useful to passenger car designers in eliminating existing anthropometric inconsistencies.

AB - Today’s globalization trends, internationalization and fast technological changes point out that all companies which want to act in sustainable way have to adapt to participate on the global, international market. Scholars have carried out numerous studies on the perception of barriers to exporting, and, although it is well known that exporting prevents SMEs failure, till now little consensus exists on the topic. Metal industry products are important sector of each economy. However, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina have small shares in export to the EU. As a response to this need, the aim of this paper is to survey the formal requirements and barriers to export products of metal industry in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina to the EU market and to compare the practices and results in both countries’ metal sector companies. A total of 116 companies have participated in survey. Collected data are undergone to different statistical tests. In accordance with survey results, recommendations are given to Serbian and BIH companies, how to overcome barriers and expand to the EU market. The findings from this study have important implications for both Serbian and BIH entrepreneurs and policy makers. Our results may help managers and entrepreneurs to assess more accurately their chance of success in international markets before they decide to go abroad. Also, policy makers should not only devote resources to the creation of new exporters but also need to care about the survival of new exporters especially in their starting period in order to sustain export growth.

AB - BACKGROUND Experimentation by means of Taguchi’s orthogonal arrays is frequently used both in exploration and industrial practice, as the way of application of Taguchi’s off-line quality control. In addition, traditional factorial designs are in use for the same purpose. Both approaches have certain advantages and disadvantages in their application. It is commonly accepted that Taguchi’s orthogonal arrays are fractional factorial designs, for two-, three-, four- and five-level factorials. The main advantage of Taguchi’s orthogonal arrays is that they are based on the matrix approach in experimentation. There are no differences between Taguchi’s orthogonal arrays and traditional factorial designs with two-level factors, and, sometimes, with three-level factors, but, until now, it has not been proved that they are unique for more than three level factors. FROM TAGUCHI… In the first part of this chapter, designs are viewed as full factorial designs, Taguchi’s orthogonal arrays as a closed design and traditional arrays as an open factorial design. The process of development procedures and corresponding equations for the allocation of factorial effects in matrix columns are presented, and they are common for both approaches. The procedure consists of the identification of columns for the main effect factors, i.e., basic columns. This is followed by the placement of interactions. It is especially important in cases with more than two-level factors, where there are partitions for all interactions. This methodology has been developed for any number of factor levels, i.e., for sk designs where s = 2…, k also = 2…. The examples of allocations of factorial effects are also presented.. .. AND BACK The second part of the chapter discusses some methods of Taguchi’s post-analysis of experimental results, which the authors consider as the most useful in practical applications. Those post-analyses include the determination of the optimal factor settings for the obtained results, as well as the contribution ratio, followed by Pareto analysis. All described methods are presented by the examples from two case studies, and they are applicable to both approaches.

In that aim anthropometric measurements of 193 Serbian and 50 Libyan female drivers have been collected using standard anthropometric instruments and compared using statistical methods - descriptive statistics with Kolmogorov test for normality, linear regression and correlation analysis and comparison of measured anthropometrics using z test. Results obtained in this study are useful to passenger car designers aimed to compete on autonomy level 3 and show that there exist significant differences between Serbian and Libyan female drivers. Future research on other rarely available anthropometric data for other nationalities is recommended, due to globalization trends and constant migrations.

Cranes are extremely important component in many different industrial operations today. Previous researches have highlighted the need of such equipment to be safely operated and easily maintained, while associated human errors should be considerably reduced. Hence, human centered issues have to be analyzed first and according to those conclusions certain innovations are necessary. This survey offers new crane cabin design based on univariate and multivariate approaches applied on operators' anthropometric data in aim to enable their ergonomic convenience. Later, design issues are solved, through static and dynamic calculations using finite method elements in that context. Finally, crane cabin design in the light of Industry 4.0 concept is further analyzed together with inventions that are helpful there. Accordingly, we can conclude that in crane cabins development process proposed innovations are needed and very beneficial.

AB - This paper is a part of ongoing research on passenger car drivers' and crane operators' anthropometric measurements data collected in aim to make comparison, explore ergonomic adaptation and fi nally improve safety. It represents one of the rare explorations containing the Libyan male drivers and crane operators' data, and accordingly it is one of the fi rst researches in anthropometric fi eld on Libyan population. Herein, statistical analysis on Libyan 300 male drivers and 50 crane operators collected data shows that male drivers are taller, and have higher sitting height as well as upper leg length values, while crane operators have slightly wider shoulders and hips. Both Libyan groups have the same arm and foot lengths. Apart of Libyan male car drivers and crane operators, research includes also and Serbian car drivers (921 Serbian male drivers) compared with crane operators (83 crane operators). Obtained data show that Serbian male car drivers have signifi cantly larger standing height and upper leg length values, while foot length is signifi cantly lower for drivers than for crane operators. Passenger vehicle and crane cabins designers can benefi t from this survey.
