AB  - Parts with free form surfaces are commonly used in wide area of engineering, not only in mechanical
engineering. When it comes to the area of mechanical engineering, the main problem is how to produce such
parts. One of the commonly used methods is milling with ball end mill cutter on 3, 4 or 5 axis mill machines.
A usual approach for production of such parts is to generate NC code in some of commercial CAM software
and afterwards load it on CNC machine. In this paper is presented the software for automatic technology
design which is developed at the department of production engineering of the Faculty of Mechanical
engineering in Belgrade, Serbia. Based on loaded CAD models of the final product and workpiece which will
be used for production software automatically gives the NC code for machining according to implemented
machining strategies. The core of software is a module for machining simulation process which allow
multicriteria optimization method for machining. Verification of the generated NC code was done on
horizontal machining center and after that measurement of machined part where was verified quality of
machined part in predefined tolerances

AB  - The ball end cutter is a commonly used tool for rough machining free-form surfaces. This paper presents a procedure for rough machining parts with free-form surfaces on 3-axis machines. To achieve this, a model for predicting cutting forces is developed and implemented in a software solution for automatic technology design. This software solution has been previously tested and described. The procedure enables the optimal utilization of the tool while considering the maximum allowed cutting force for the selected tool diameter. The tool diameter is automatically determined based on the analysis of the surface geometry and is chosen to be smaller or equal to the minimum surface radius. The software solution includes an input of the part CAD model in STL file format and a tool database specific to the machine used. After upgrading the software with new strategies for rough machining, the generated NC code was tested on a CNC machine, and manufacturing was performed within the specified tolerances and surface roughness. The research was conducted at the Department of Production Engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Belgrade, where this topic has been actively studied for many years and is still under development. The described software solution is beneficial as it allows users to operate with minimal knowledge of CAM systems.

AB  - The paper presents the results of to date investigations in the field of ornamental stone micro-cutting using the examples of granite and marble originating from the stone varieties of Serbian location. The diamond grain - machined stone (the "Josanica" granite and the "Plavi tok" marble) interaction was analyzed. The analysis also embraced the changes of the normal cutting force as a function of cutting speed and grain penetration depth in the chosen stone. Based on the grain traces (cracks) that occurred on the surface of the machined stone, the critical cutting depths, at which brittle cutting occurs, were established for the mentioned stones. The presented analysis is to be used for the grinding process optimization as a dominant ornamental stone machining technology with the aim of obtaining quality machined surfaces and preserving the stone surface structure and color.
