to oštećenje izaziva.
Ponašanje i pouzdanost materijala u eksploataciji i Кorozija materijala i
mehanizama oštećenja mašinskih konstrukcija i efekti do kojih oni dovode,
knjizi posvećena posebna pažnja osnovama mikroskopije i načinima njene
Posebnu zahvalnost autori duguju laboratoriji „Tehnički centar-Inspekt“
ekspertiza, odakle i potiče najveći broj neverovatno lepih mikrofotografija
Rajičiću, dr Aleksandru Maslareviću, naučnom saradniku, i dr Biljani Anđelić,

pojave oštećenja i lomova.
Svaku sugestiju od strane čitalaca i korisnika ovog udžbenika, u smislu
poboljšanja njegovog kvaliteta, autori će rado čuti i prihvatiti.

AB - Hydrogen damage includes a wide range of environmental types of failure, hydrogen assisted mechanical degradation processes, and hydrogen-material interactions, including hydrogen embrittlement (HE) and material microstructural changes, caused by the presence of hydrogen in metals. Hydrogen embrittlement of iron, steel, and their alloys is extremely interesting phenomena as these materials are widely used in many industrial applications. The coexistence of different HE mechanisms and their simultaneous effects in metallic materials, including steels, is still not well documented, while recognition of the dominant mechanism, one or more, is an extremely challenging and a crucial problem [1]. The implementation of methods for evaluation, control, and prevention of hydrogen assisted mechanical degradation processes and HE in metals, as well as, development of the future practically-applicable industrial predictive model requires that the variables relevant to the application be incorporated into the basic concept that define all necessary successive steps (5-step approach) for the industrial application [2]. The global 5-step approach in prevention of hydrogen assisted mechanical degradation processes and hydrogen embrittlement in metals for the practical industrial application consists of following steps: (1) phenomenology analysis of hydrogen related degradation (multiscale modeling and simulation of HE phenomena); (2) hydrogen sources and entry into metal/component; (3) structural integrity (SiM) model and (4) predictive maintenance (PdM) model which should provide basis for future (5) reliable and accurate HE damage prediction of different industrial components.

AB - Hydrogen damage includes a wide range of environmental types of failure, hydrogen assisted mechanical degradation
processes - hydrogen embrittlement (HE), and hydrogen-material interactions, including material microstructural changes,
caused by the presence of hydrogen in metals. The connection between microstructure-based behaviors of materials and the
effects of hydrogen on its macroscopic measurable properties is of the utmost importance in order to provide a unified model
for HE in metallic materials, including steels.
The simultaneous activity and synergistic interplay of the hydrogen-enhanced localized plasticity (HELP) and hydrogenenhanced
decohesion (HEDE) mechanisms of HE (HELP+HEDE) was recently detected and confirmed trough simulations
(modeling), and also experimentally, in the case of different materials, such as low carbon steels, dual-phase steels, ultra
high strength steels, advanced high-strength steels, martensitic steels, martensitic stainless steels, nickel, and nickel-based
alloys. This complex interaction dependence between the simultaneously active micro-mechanisms of HE, degree of
mechanical properties degradation, hydrogen concentration/distribution, and temperature is particularly pronounced in the
case of industrial components that are exposed to hydrogen during operation at different temperatures and from different
sources.
This paper presents an overview about the simultaneous activity and synergistic interplay of HELP+HEDE mechanisms in
metallic materials and an in-depth study of the model based on the correlation of mechanical properties to scanning electron
microscopy fractography analysis of fracture surfaces in the presence of simultaneously active hydrogen embrittlement
micro-mechanisms (HELP+HEDE) in a low carbon steel.

AB - The simultaneous activity and synergistic interplay of the hydrogen-enhanced localized plasticity (HELP) and hydrogenenhanced
decohesion (HEDE) mechanisms of hydrogen embrittlement (HE) was fully confirmed for the first time in low carbon
grade 20 - St.20 (or 20G, equivalent to UNS G10200, AISI 1020) steel specimens (boiler tubes) in situ enriched and embrittled by
hydrogen during boiler exploitation in a thermal power plant (TPP), and not only through lab experiment, simulation or modelling.
The proposed HELP+HEDE model of HE in low carbon steels is based on the correlation of mechanical properties to SEM
microscopy fractography analysis of fracture surfaces in the presence of simultaneous action in a cooperative manner of the
HELP and HEDE micro-mechanisms of HE depending on the local concentration of hydrogen in the investigated steel. Also, the
effect of hydrogen on the material mechanical properties and ductile to brittle fracture transition resulting from the concurrent
and synergistic (HELP+HEDE) or competing action of HELP and HEDE mechanisms of HE is discussed. The effects and
correlations between microstructure, fractographic observations (light microscopy and scanning electron microscope - SEM)
and macro-mechanical testing data (tensile testing, impact strength on instrumented Charpy machine and hardness) are also
considered. This paper also gives an overview of the application of a model for structural integrity analysis of boiler evaporator
tubes in TPP made of low carbon steel exposed during operation to a local corrosion process and multiple hydrogen assisted
degradation processes. The proposed model enables enhanced predictive maintenance of industrial component systems.

AB - A large number of contemporary studies about hydrogen embrittlement confirmed the multiple effects of hydrogen and activity of the different hydrogen embrittlement mechanisms in low carbon steels. However, critical evaluation and quantification of the synergy between the hydrogen-enhanced localized plasticity (HELP) and decohesion-based (HEDE) mechanisms, and their combined effect on macromechanical properties, still does not exist. This paper focuses on a structural integrity models for hydrogen embrittlement of low carbon St.20 (AISI 1020) steel in the

AB - Modified 2.25Cr1Mo steel, known as a relatively new
generation, grade T24 heat resistant steel (7CrMoVTiB10-
10), is extensively used as a material for fabrication of water
walls panels - evaporator tubes in supercritical boilers of a
new generation in thermal power plants. A special
advantage of T24 steel is low carbon content and the
optimal content of alloying element which simultaneously
provides its good weldability and heat resistance. For
elements up to 10 mm of thickness, made of T24 steel
standards not foreseen previous and subsequent post-weld
heat treatment (PWHT). However, after a series of problems
encountered with welded joints, practice has shown that
some kind of heat treatment is necessary, in order to reduce
the susceptibility to hydrogen induced stress corrosion
cracking (HISCC). This paper deals with the microstructural
characterization of both base material and welded joint of
boiler tube (dimension 44,5x7,1 mm), made of T24 steel,
before and after PWHT. The aim of this paper is to evaluate
the effect of this type of PWHT on microstructural changes
and its possible impact on the susceptibility to cracking of
T24 welded joints.

AB - The parts of machines and structures are often exposed to
the action of aggressive corrosive environments, which in a
short period of time can provoke the loss of their integrity. It
is well known that for extending service life, the protection
of exposed structure zone by coating is frequently used. One
of the possible protection methods is hardfacing the stainless
steel of appropriate chemical composition and suitable
thickness on the surface of the parts that are made of
structural steel whose corrosion resistance is extremely low.
Due to a number of advantages, the plasma transferred arc
(PTA) surfacing process has found significant use in the
field of surface protection as well as surfacing buffer layers
for very different materials. The goal of this paper is to
determine the dependence of plasma arc welding process
parameters and characteristics of welded layer made of
stainless steel 316L, regarding selection of optimum process
parameters. Investigations were carried out on structural
steel S235JR which surface is hardfaced by powdered 316L
stainless steel with varying amounts of heat input. In this
investigation, heat input depended only on welding current
that was changed, while the other parameters of the process
were constant.

AB - The emission of nitrogen oxides (NOx) during combustion of fossil fuels is considered as one of the major sources of environmental hazards. As a result, the limitations of concentration of nitrogen oxides in fuel gases are regulated. The implementation of low NOx burners in pulverized coal-fired boilers has led to a rise in the fireside corrosion rate of the waterwall boiler tubes in some power plants. Under normal combustion conditions, an oxidizing atmosphere helps formation of a protective oxide scale on the surface of the boiler tubes, thus impeding gaseous corrosion. However, the use of low NOx technology changes the combustion environment, resulting in the presence of reduction gases characterized by large amounts of CO and H2S. In areas of reducing atmosphere, a porous, non-protective scale is produced on the waterwalls that could leads to significant metal loss per year due to corrosion. In order to better understand the mechanisms and kinetics of the fireside corrosion, it was determined that, in addition to the type of atmosphere formed during fuel combustion, coal composition has an important role in the occurrence of fireside corrosion. The aim of this paper is to analyze the possibility of occurrence of fireside corrosion, i.e., determine the corrosion potential of domestic coals and identify possible problems that could occur during combustion using low NOx technologies.

AB - Stress calculation of steam pipeline is presented, focused on the welded joint. Numerical calculation was peiformed using the finite element method to obtain stress distribution in the welded joint made while replacing the valve chamber. Dissimilar materials were used, namely steel 10CrMoV9-10 according to EN 10216-2 for the valve chamber, the rest of steam pipeline was steel X20, whereas the transition piece material was steel X22. Residual stresses were calculated, in addition to design stresses, indicating critical regions and necessity for post-weld heat treatment.

AB - The contact lens industry and market have displayed a high level of dynamism in the past few decades, and have evolved into a rapidly changing field in which science and everyday practice constantly interact. This work presents the comparative research of characteristics of the basic (commercial) material and nanophotonic materials which were obtained by incorporation of fullerene nanoparticles and its derivate in basic material for soft contact lenses. Basic contact lens material was sintetized of monomer 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), and fullerene and its derivates were used due to their good transmission characteristics in ultraviolet, visible and near infra-red spectrum. For the purposes of characterization of materials for soft contact lenses Optomagnetic Spectroscopy (OMS) was used. OMS is based on difference between diffusely reflected white light and reflected polarized white light. This research contributes to applied optical science and biomedical application industry.

AB - Heat resistant martensitic steel X20CrMoV121 (DIN) is extensively used in the last few decades as a material for tubing systems and pipelines in thermal power plants. Long term behaviour of this material is well known and understood. X20CrMoV121 is found to be reliable for prolonged service at elevated temperatures. Main disadvantage is poor weld-ability, apart from other properties of great importance for tubing systems. Failure of the tubing system during service requires quick replacement of damaged parts. In situ repair welding of martensitic steels is always problematic since it requires special welding techniques usually difficult to perform in short time during forced outages. Here we report on the repair welding procedure for the outlet superheater in two 600 MW lignite power plant units. The super heater is made of X20CrMoV121 (DIN). Outlet temperature and pressure in the super heater system are 540°C and 18.6 MPa. The local thinning of tube walls is found to be the main damage mechanism of the super heater during prolonged service. Highly erosive lignite combustion particles are identified as the main reason for wall thinning.
A serious problem is the long required period for repair welding of damaged martensitic X20CrMoV121 steel. The solution was cold welding involving repair welding by austenitic electrode with high nickel and chromium content. This technique has many advantages as short welding time, no need for special atmosphere and preheating treatment, relatively easy welding process, etc. Repaired joints are usually replaced during next overhaul, but for investigation purposes some are maintained in service over 10 years. Intensive characterization of base and filler material of repair welds after 10 years service is reported in this paper.

AB - Thick walled components such as high pressure (HP) steam turbine casings operating under high parameter conditions are subjected to a complex stress state. As a result of that stress state, some parts of HP turbine casing undergo to the creep fatigue caused by the combination of thermal fatigue resulted from repeated start/stop operation and the creep which occurs during long-term operation at high temperature and high-pressure. It is well known that domestic thermal power plants have been in use over 100000 h which means that significant cost is required not only for maintenance, but often for renewal of equipment. Based on comprehensive investigation, the results of residual life assessment of one high pressure steam turbine casing, which belongs to the older turbine generation, taking into account simultaneous action of thermal fatigue and creep, are presented in this paper. Also, the critical flaw crack size of HP turbine casing is determined because this parameter has a strong influence on casing integrity and residual life. The results of residual life assessment provide not only a basis for further maintenance, but also estimated time for reparation or renewal.

AB - Changes of mechanical properties and microstructure of specimens, which
were taken from pipelines, made of heat resistant steel 1Cr0.25Mo0.25V after
approximatelly 200000 hours of service at temperature of 540°C and stress 70MPa are considered in this paper. Also, the initial specimens, made of same steel that had not been at service were investigated. Results obtained by different experimental technique show that microstructural degradation had been dominant process during prolonged service in creep conditions, which lead to the changes of mechanical properties. Microstructural degradation and damages, like creep cavities and oxidation on internal surface of pipe, were observed. The changes of mechanical properties and significant decrease of hardness and micro hardness during service are explained by different processes that take place during microstructural degradation.

AB - From the point of view of damage, mismatched welded joints often used in the
production of the equipment, primarily pipes, are always critical sites in the system. Very often the problem is due to welding of different types of low-alloy and high-alloy steels. The selection of additional material presents a problem since the material can match only one of the steels in the mismatched joint, usually the low-alloy one. On the other hand, the selected material determines the properties of the welded joint by controlling the metallurgical processes that lead to the development of different phases with different characteristic properties. The existing experience with welding steel X10CrMoVNb91 in mismatched joints indicates that some of the phases that are formed can have negative effects on the exploitation capability of these joints. This work considers the development of different phases during formation of joints whose one component is steel X10CrMoVNb91 that is widely used in thermal power plant equipment.

AB - Based on the analysis of the exploitation behavior of domestic thermal power plants it was concluded that the failures on the boiler tubing systems is due to erosion by flying ashes and that it is the main cause for the boiler tube failure especially in the evaporator and economiser surfaces. Current boiler tube erosion protection methods can be classified into three basic categories: a) welding overlay; b) thermal spraying (metallization) and c) mechanical protection. Welding overlay and thermal spraying procedures are successfully implemented on the clean boiler tubings prior to installation, although the same procedure with qualitative preparation (cleaning) can effectively be used even with the boiler tubings that were in the operation for a period of time. On modern thermal power plants in the world, thermal spraying method is widely used for the protection against erosion, abrasion and corrosion. Despite being inexpensive, mechanical protection methods are generally not used in the modern systems because of limited lifetime, difficulties during dismantling and reduced heat transfer on the protected tubings. In order to reduce the number of outages (direct material saving) and thus improve the operational reliability, availability and competitiveness, the use of modern erosion protection methods is of high priority.

abstract = "Based on the analysis of the exploitation behavior of domestic thermal power plants it was concluded that the failures on the boiler tubing systems is due to erosion by flying ashes and that it is the main cause for the boiler tube failure especially in the evaporator and economiser surfaces. In order to reduce the number of outages (direct material saving) and thus improve the operational reliability, availability and competitiveness, the use of modern erosion protection methods is of high priority.",

AB - The service life of thick-walled power plant components exposed to creep, as is the case with pipelines of fresh- and reheated steam, depend on the exhaustion rate of the material. Plant operation at elevated temperatures and at temperatures below designed temperatures all relates to the material exhaustion rate, thus complicating remaining life assessment, whereas the operating temperature variation is a most common cause in the mismatching of real service and design life. Apart from temperature, the tube wall stress is a significant variable for remaining life assessment, whose calculation depends on the selected procedure, due to the complex pipeline configuration. In this paper, a remaining life assessment is performed according to the Larson-Miller parametric relation for a Æ324×36 pipe bend element of a fresh steam-pipeline, made of steel class 1Cr0.3Mo0.25V, after 160.000 hours of operation. The temperature history of the pipeline, altogether with the pipe bend, is determined based on continuous temperature monitoring records. Compared results of remaining life assessment are displayed for monitored temperature records and for designed operating temperature in the same time period. The stress calculation in the pipe bend wall is performed by three methods that are usually applied so to emphasize the differences in the obtained results of remaining life assessment.

AB - The problem of boiler tube erosion is a very complex problem and present in practically all fossil fuel power plants burning low heating value coals irrespective of their particular design and operating characteristics. Predicting the rate of material degradation processes due to operating conditions is the essential feature for assessing the remaining lifetime. This clearly includes the knowledge of the type and kinetics of erosion phenomenon. In order to follow the erosion process and provide a reliable prediction of erosion rate and thus tube time to failure, models taking into account all relevant effects have to be developed. In this paper the is presented results of testing carried out on the evaporator hopper tubes of 350MW unit exposed to erosion and were used to assess their remaining life.

AB - Service reliability and maintenance of the major pipeline systems is still not
consider to be important issue in the country. The explicit methodology have been developed that can answer more or less accurately the crucial question of how long certain part of the pipeline can be in reliable service. This methodology is generalized approach, and can be fully applicable to the system of interest only if all specific characteristics of the examined system are taken into account, including type of fluid, specific track, expected service life, etc. In this paper, the example of how methodology for reliability assessment of the pipeline is demonstrated for the case of the magistral pipeline in fossil fuel plant, together with the example of how obtained results of the applied methodology in addition to some other measures can be used to enhance maintenance.
