Developing thermal insulation cement based mortars with recycled aggregate in accordance with Net Zero principles

AB  - The performance of thermo insulation rendering mortars with alternations in ratios
of powdered cordierite and talc was examined. The goal was to confirm that recycled
kilnware cordierite can be reapplied in the mortar design without significant deterioration in
performance in comparison with OPC mortar. Differential thermal analysis was employed for
examining thermally induced reactions. The ca vitation erosion, in testing sequences ranging
from 30 to 120 minutes, was used to assess the compa ctness of the mortar structure. The
physico mechanical properties of experimental mortars were investigated. The morphologies
of the mortar tablets upon cavi tation were studied using a scanning electron microscope. It
was established that cordierite and talc filler in amounts up to 20% enhance microstructural
packing and mechanical strengths due to improved cementation and therefore contribute to
cavitation er osion resistance. Hig her amounts of talc cause structural degradation and mass
loss during cavitation tests. Reducing manufacturing costs, energy consumption, and
greenhouse gas emissions are the main objectives of t he production of this waste based
constr uction composite, as the reuse of waste materials can help achieve a number of
Sustainable Development Goals.

AB  - The effect of the shielding gas arc welding process on the cavitation resistance of the three-component aluminum alloy AlMg4.5Mn and its welded joints was investigated. Welding was performed using the GTAW and GMAW processes in a shielded atmosphere of pure argon. After the welding, metallographic tests were performed, and the hardness distribution in the welded joints was determined. The ultrasonic vibration method was used to evaluate the base metal’s and weld metal’s resistance to cavitation. The change in mass was monitored to determine the cavitation rates. Quality menagment of protective coating based on zirconium silicate

AB  - The composition and production procedures of refractory coatings based on zirconium silicate for the protection of metal
structures in conditions of wear, cavitation and corrosion were investigated in the paper. The composition of the coating was defined
with a filler based on zirconium silicate, a binder based on epoxy resin, organic additives and an organic solvent. A method for quality
control of obtained coatings was investigated using the ultrasonic vibration method with a stationary sample according to the ASTM
G 32 standard.
The following methods were used to characterize the obtained filler samples: X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) and scanning electron
microscopy (SEM). The change in the mass of the samples as a function of the cavitation time was monitored and the cavitation rate
was determined. The formation and development of damage to the coating surface was monitored using a scanning electron
microscope. The obtained test results showed a satisfactory resistance of the protective coatings to the effect of cavitation, with small
damage to the coating surface and a cavitation rate of 0.6 mg/min. Tests have shown that the application of the ultrasonic vibration
method is suitable for a quick assessment of the quality of protective coatings during synthesis and a forecast of their resistance and
stability during exploitation in the protection of equipment parts in mining and metallurgy.

AB  - In the paper, samples of protective coatings based on pyrophyllite were examined. The initial sample of pyrophyllite was obtained from the Parsović ideposit, Konjic, Sarajevo, AD Harbi  BiH. Pyrophyllite samples were subjected to micronizing grinding to a filler grain size of 20 μm. XRD, SEM and optical microscopy methods were used to characterize the obtained fillers based on pyrophyllite. The optimal composition of protective coatings based on pyrophyllite and the manufacturing process were determined. The resistance of refractory coatings to the effect of cavitation was experimentally determined using the ultrasonic vibration method with a stationary sample according to the ASTM G32 standard. Based on the value of the cavitation rate, the analysis of the formation and development of damage to the surface of the samples, the possibility of applying a protective coating in the conditions of exploitation in which the occurrence of corrosion and cavitation is expected was assessed.

AB  - The paper presents the results of synthesis and charac-terisation of refractory coatings based on various fillers intended for the protection of metallic structures. Refractory fillers applied are based on mullite, cordierite, zirconium silicate, and pyrophyllite. Refractory filler samples are treated by micronization grinding down to 15 m filler particles. Methods as XRD, SEM, and optical microscopy are used for characterisation. Performed tests determined the optimal composition of protective coatings and manufacturing pro-cesses. According to standard ASTM G32 an ultrasonic vibra-tional method with stationary sample was used for charac-terising the obtained coatings. The goal of the research was to determine the coating quality and its applications in metallic surface protection in conditions of wear, corrosion, cavitation, and high temperature. All coatings were tested under the same conditions. A comparison of cavitation resis-tance is given for tested coatings. Coating quality is evalu-ated based on cavitation loss rate and on the analysis of sample surface damage formation and development under effects of cavitation.

abstract = "The paper presents the results of synthesis and charac-terisation of refractory coatings based on various fillers intended for the protection of metallic structures. Refractory fillers applied are based on mullite, cordierite, zirconium silicate, and pyrophyllite. Refractory filler samples are treated by micronization grinding down to 15 m filler particles. Methods as XRD, SEM, and optical microscopy are used for characterisation. Performed tests determined the optimal composition of protective coatings and manufacturing pro-cesses. According to standard ASTM G32 an ultrasonic vibra-tional method with stationary sample was used for charac-terising the obtained coatings. The goal of the research was to determine the coating quality and its applications in metallic surface protection in conditions of wear, corrosion, cavitation, and high temperature. All coatings were tested under the same conditions. A comparison of cavitation resis-tance is given for tested coatings. Coating quality is evalu-ated based on cavitation loss rate and on the analysis of sample surface damage formation and development under effects of cavitation.",

AB  - The paper investigates the composition and procedures for the production of refractory coatings based on cordierite for the protection of parts of equipment in metallurgy and mining. An ultrasonic vibration method with a stationary sample according to the ASTM G32 standard was used to determine the resistance properties of the obtained protective coatings. The aim of the study was to determine the quality of coatings and the possibility of application for the protection of metal surfaces in conditions of cavitation, wear and corrosion. The change in the mass of the samples as a function of cavitation time was monitored. Cavitation velocity was determined as an indicator of coating resistance under cavitation loads. The occurrence and development of coating surface damage were monitored using a scanning electron microscope. Based on the value of cavitation velocity and analysis of surface damage morphology, cavitation resistance of the coating was determined. The results showed a satisfactory degree of resistance to cavitation of the tested refractory coatings based on cordierite and the possibility of their application for the protection of parts of equipment that will be exposed to cavitation loads during exploitation.

AB  - This paper presents the results of research on coatings based on basalt for use in Lost foam casting process. These
coatings have not been used in practice so far. The coating compositions and the synthesis process were studied. Test series of
casting aluminum alloy castings were made. Positive results of testing the surface, structure and properties of the obtained castings
are shown. The possibility of using basalt for the synthesis of coatings in foundry will enable great savings in the production of
castings. This is significant considering that Serbia has significant reserves of this type of mineral raw materials

AB  - Pirofilit je mineralna sirovina pogodna za izradu šireg spektra proizvoda i primenu u različitim granama privrede (građevinarstvu, poljoprivredi, industriji hartije). Tehnologija prerade stena pirofilita je ekološki čista, a proizvodi dobijeni tehnološkom preradom pirofilita nisu kancerogeni. U radu su ispitivani uzorci pirofilita sinterovani na temperaturi 1150 ºC. Polazni uzorak pirofilita dobijen je iz ležišta Parsović-BiH. Eksperimentalno je određena otpornost ovog vatrostalnog uzorka na dejstvo kavitacije primenom ultrazvučne vibracione metode sa stacionarnim uzorkom prema standardu ASTM G32. Na osnovu vrednosti kavitacione brzine i analize morfologije oštećenja površine određena je otpornost na dejstvo kavitacije ispitivanog uzorka na bazi pirofilita i procenjena mogućnost njihove primene u hidrodinamičkim uslovima eksploatacije u kojima se očekuje pojava kavitacije.

Determination of cavitation resistance of glass- ceramics based on basalt

AB  - The paper examines the resistance to the effect of cavitation of raw basalt samples from the Vrelo-Kopaonik deposit and basalt-based glass-ceramics obtained by melting and casting of the basalt aggregate. A change in the sample mass in function of the cavitation time was monitored for the evaluation of cavitation resistance. The level of degradation of the surface of the sample was quantified using the image analysis. The change in the morphology of the sample surface with the test time was followed by scanning electron microscopy. In the case of raw basalt samples it is evident that the incubation period in the early phase of cavitation damage is short, because the period without mass loss is almost negligible. According to the selected test conditions in the first 15 min, the mass loss of these samples is up to 15 mg, for 120 min exposure is 88,5mg, with a cavitation rate of 0,7 mg/min and total surface area damage of 35%. Analyzing the progression of erosion samples of glass-ceramics, it can be concluded that the loss of mass is small, in the first 15 min the mass loss is 1,29 mg, for 120 min exposure is 3,53 mg, with a cavitation rate of 0.03 mg/min and total surface damage of the sample surface of 12%. The higher erosion rate of the raw basalt samples compared to glass-ceramic samples based on basalt can be interpreted by the rough structure of the olivine-pyrroxene basalt from Vrelo-Kopaonik deposit, compared to the compact structure of the obtained glass-ceramic samples, with glass and fluid texture, very great hardness. Research has shown that the process of obtaining samples of glass-ceramic greatly influences cavitation resistance, especially relaxation cooling processes that eliminate internal stresses and reduce brittleness of samples. It has been shown that glass-ceramic samples based on olivine-pyroxene basalt from the test deposit can be applied in conditions in which high cavitation loads are expected.

AB  - The paper examines the resistance to the effect of cavitation of raw basalt samples from the Vrelo-Kopaonik deposit and basalt-based glass-ceramics obtained by melting and casting of the basalt aggregate. A change in the sample mass in function of the cavitation time was monitored for the evaluation of cavitation resistance. The level of degradation of the surface of the sample was quantified using the image analysis. The change in the morphology of the sample surface with the test time was followed by scanning electron microscopy. In the case of raw basalt samples it is evident that the incubation period in the early phase of cavitation damage is short, because the period without mass loss is almost negligible. According to the selected test conditions in the first 15 min, the mass loss of these samples is up to 15 mg, for 120 min exposure is 88,5mg, with a cavitation rate of 0,7 mg/min and total surface area damage of 35%. Analyzing the progression of erosion samples of glass-ceramics, it can be concluded that the loss of mass is small, in the first 15 min the mass loss is 1,29 mg, for 120 min exposure is 3,53 mg, with a cavitation rate of 0.03 mg/min and total surface damage of the sample surface of 12%. The higher erosion rate of the raw basalt samples compared to glass-ceramic samples based on basalt can be interpreted by the rough structure of the olivine-pyroxene basalt from Vrelo-Kopaonik deposit, compared to the compact structure of the obtained glass-ceramic samples, with glass and fluid texture, very great hardness. Research has shown that the process of obtaining samples of glass-ceramic greatly influences cavitation resistance, especially relaxation cooling processes that eliminate internal stresses and reduce brittleness of samples. It has been shown that glass-ceramic samples based on olivine-pyroxene basalt from the test deposit can be applied in conditions in which high cavitation loads are expected.

AB  - This paper presents the results of research on coatings based on basalt for use in Lost foam casting process. These
coatings have not been used in practice so far. The coating compositions and the synthesis process were studied. Test series of
casting aluminum alloy castings were made. Positive results of testing the surface, structure and properties of the obtained castings
are shown. The possibility of using basalt for the synthesis of coatings in foundry will enable great savings in the production of
castings. This is significant considering that Serbia has significant reserves of this type of mineral raw materials.

AB  - Pirofilit je mineralna sirovina pogodna za izradu šireg spektra proizvoda i primenu u različitim granama privrede (građevinarstvu, poljoprivredi, industriji hartije). Tehnologija prerade stena pirofilita je ekološki čista, a proizvodi dobijeni tehnološkom preradom pirofilita nisu kancerogeni. U radu su ispitivani uzorci pirofilita sinterovani na temperaturi 1150 ºC. Polazni uzorak pirofilita dobijen je iz ležišta Parsović-BiH. Eksperimentalno je određena otpornost ovog vatrostalnog uzorka na dejstvo kavitacije primenom ultrazvučne vibracione metode sa stacionarnim uzorkom prema standardu ASTM G32. Na osnovu vrednosti kavitacione brzine i analize morfologije oštećenja površine određena je otpornost na dejstvo kavitacije ispitivanog uzorka na bazi pirofilita i procenjena mogućnost njihove primene u hidrodinamičkim uslovima eksploatacije u kojima se očekuje pojava kavitacije.

AB  - U radu je analizirana morfologija kavitacionog oštećenja martenzitnog nerđajućeg čelika. AB  - U radu su prezentirani rezultati sinteze nove vrste vatrostalnih premaza na bazi bazalta za zaštitu
metalnih konstrukcija u uslovima delovanja kavitacije. Polazni uzorci bazalta dobijeni su iz ležišta Vrelo
- Kopaonik. Vatrostalni punioc na bazi bazalta dobijen je drobljenjem i mlevenjem izabranih uzoraka
bazaltnih stena. Za karakterizaciju dobijenih uzoraka punioca korišćene su metode: rendgenska
difrakciona analiza (XRD), skenirajuća elektronska mikroskopija (SEM) i optička mikroskopija.
Istraživanjem su definisani sastavi premaza na bazi bazalta sa vezivom na bazi epoksi smole, organskim
aditivima i organskim rastvaračem. Svojstva otpornosti zaštitnih premaza nanesenih na metalne
površine ispitivana su primenom ultrazvučne vibracione metode sa stacionarnim uzorkom prema
standardu ASTM G 32. Da bi se ocenila otpornost površine uzorka na dejstvo kavitacije ispitivana je
površina uzorka pre i za vreme testiranja. Površine uzoraka snimane su na skenirajućem elektronskom
mikroskopu u cilju praćenja i analize morfologije oštećenja površine. Za ocenu oštećenja površine
uzoraka primenjena je kompjuterska analiza slike prema programu Image Pro Plus. Dobijeni rezultati
ispitivanja pokazali su visoku otpornost slojeva premaza na dejstvo kavitacije, sa malim gubicima mase,
malim oštećenjima površine premaza i kavitacionom brzinaom 0,1 mg/min.

AB  - U radu je ispitivana otpornost pod dejstvom kavitacije uzoraka sinterovanog pirofilita. Polazni
uzorak pirofilita iz ležišta Parsović- BiH mleven je u vibracionom mlinu na granulaciju 20μm,
presovan je i sinterovan na temperaturama (ºC): 1000; 1100; 1200. Za procenu kavitacione
otpornosti praćena je promena mase uzorka u funkciji vremena delovanja kavitacije. Primenjena je
ultrazvučna vibraciona metoda sa stacionarnim uzorkom prema standardu ASTM G32. Izračunate
su kavitacione brzine za sve uzorke, kao osnovni pokazatelj otpornosti materijala pod dejstvom
kavitacije. Promena morfologije površine uzorka sa vremenom ispitivanja praćena je primenom
skenirajuće elektronske mikroskopije. Na osnovu vrednosti kavitacione brzine i analize morfologije
oštećenja površine određena je kavitaciona otpornost ispitivanih uzoraka na bazi pirofilita. Dobijeni
rezultati ukazuju da uzorci sinterovanog pirofilita imaju zadovoljavajuću otpornost na dejstvo
kavitacije i mogu se primeniti u uslovima manjih kavitacionih opterećenja.

AB  - The paper presents the results of synthesis and characterization of new refractory coatings based on basalt and epoxy system. Coatings are intended to protect the surfaces of parts of equipment and various structures in civil and mechanical engineering and metallurgy which are exposed to wear, corrosion, or cavitation during exploitation. Coating composition, procedures for preparation of components from coating composition, synthesis procedures, and application of coatings are investigated. Several methods are used to characterize the coating: X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), optical microscopy and ultrasonic vibration method with a stationary sample according to ASTM G32 standard. Material resistance to the action of cavitation is determined using the ultrasonic method. In order to monitor the formation and development of surface damage on samples under the effect of cavitation, the morphology of surface coating damage is analysed using scanning electron microscopy. Results show high resistance of the tested basalt-based coatings under the action of cavitation, with low cavitation rate (0.04 mg/min), low mass losses of coating and minor surface damage during exposure. This indicates the possibility of applying this type of refractory coating for the protection of various metallic and non-metallic structures in conditions of wear and cavitation.

AB  - The cavitation erosion resistance of the basalt samples from Vrelo, Kopaonik deposit was investigated. The cavitation erosion test was performed using an ultrasonic vibratory cavitation testing method in accordance to the ASTM G32 standard. To measure the cavitation resistance, a change in the sample mass in function of the cavitation time was monitored. The alternations of the samples’ surface morphology with the passing time were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy. The level of the surface degradation was quantified using image analysis software. The results indicate that basalt posses a good cavitation resistance, which implicates that this raw material can be utilized in extreme exploitation environment.

AB  - U radu je istraživano dobijanje vatrostalnih punioca na bazi različitih mineralnih sirovina, a pre svega pirofilita, mulita, kordijerita i cirkona. U cilju dobijanja vatrostalnih punioca visokih svojstava i primene u sintezi novih oblikovanih i neoblikovanih vatrostalnih materijala, vršena su sistematična istraživanja procesa pripreme mineralnih sirovina postupcima prečišćavanja, mlevenja i mehaničke aktivacije. Mlevenje i mehanička aktivacija punioca vršena je u visokoenergetskim mlinovima sa polazne veličine zrna 100μm do veličine zrna 15μm. Posebna pažnja tokom istraživanja posvećena je ispitivanju uticaja mehaničke akrivacije punioca na reološka svojstva dobijenih vatrostalnih premaza za primenu u livarstvu. Karakterizacija dobijenih punioca vršena je primenom rendgenske difrakcione analize i skenirajuće elektronske mikroskopije, a kvalitativna mineraloška analiza i analiza oblika i veličine zrna punioca urađena je pod polarizacionim mikroskopom primenom imerzione metode i kompjuterskog programskog paketa Ozaria 2.5. Rezultati ispitivanja mogućnosti primene dobijenih vatrostalnih punioca za izradu livačkih premaza pokazali su da je veličina zrna punioca 15-20μm optimalana za postizanje zadovoljavajuće reologije primene premaza. Zadovoljavajuća svojstva premaza postignuta su primenom optimalnih sastava premaza i procesa njihove izrade.

AB  - Mikrolegirani čelici se primenjuju za izradu različitih elemenata opreme u metalurgiji i rudarstvu. Zbog zahteva koje oprema treba da ispuni i sigurnosti koju treba da obezbedi, vrše se različita ispitivanja ove vrste konstrukcionih materijala.U radu je ispitivano ponašanje mikrolegiranog čelika S355M u uslovima dejstva kavitacije. Za ispitivanje je primenjena ultrazvučna vibraciona metoda sa stacionarnim uzorkom. Praćena je promena mase uzoraka u funkciji vremena dejstva kavitacije.Morfologija oštećenja površine analizirana je primenom skenirajuće elektronske mikroskopije.UtvrĎen je mehanizam nastajanja i razvoja oštećenja površine uzoraka pod dejstvom kavitacije.Procenjena je mogućnost primene ove vrste materijala u rigoroznim uslovima eksploatacije koji su prisutni u metalurškim procesima.
