AB - The widely recognized insect known as the honey bee (Apis mellifera)
has a beneficial impact on both the environment and human life, making it important to
protect them not just for ecological reasons but also for the economic and social
advancement of countryside regions. Their existence is so essential that the recent
decrease in honey bee hives has caused a growing interest in them. One of the reasons
for bees' decline in population is infestation with a parasite known as Varroa
destructor. In order to effectively treat the V. destructor infestation, it is critical to
monitor the amount of infestation in hives. While there is at present no specific sensor
for this job, continuous and discrete monitoring of hive infection levels as well as other
critical bee colony characteristics, such as temperature and humidity, is wanted. The
use of chemicals by apiarists is a method of controlling the infestation that is the most
common strategy. Substitute tactics include the use of organic compounds, organic
products like essential oils, and biotechnological techniques like mite trapping.
Therefore, successful therapy and preventing harsh chemical use can reduce bee
mortality and economic losses.

AB - Ultrasonics is new science that is being intensively developed in recent years. Sound velocity is a valuable engineering tool and non-destructive, non-invasive, non-intrusive technique of measurement. The authors were highly motivated to collect data from as many research papers as possible in order to see the possibilities and examples of applying this technology. The various effects of ultrasound were discussed and outlined in a context of different uses to accelerate or support agricultural production processes like: the effects of ultrasound waves, the commercial and diagnostical applications possibilities. The field of biotechnical engineering is very multidisciplinary and, accordingly, there is a diversity in approaches and possibilities of applying ultrasound. The overall conclusion of our work is that the use of ultrasound in biotechnical research brings various benefits, and in some cases, it is extremely supported and recommended. Also, there is great flexibility in the ways in which this technology can be applied, which leaves engineers a lot of freedom in expressing creative solutions and applications.

AB - Bee pollen provides proteins, lipids, vitamins and minerals in bee nutrition. Bee
pollen also has a significant nutritive value as a supplement to human nutrition. Fresh bee pollen
must be dried in order to reduce water activity for the development of various microorganisms.
Convective drying is common method for bee pollen dehydration. In this paper, several drying
temperatures (40, 50 and 60◦C) were investigated during the 3 hours convective hot air drying.
Several drying models used in literature were fitted to experimentally obtained drying curves in
order to find most suitable one. The best fit was achieved with Two-term (for 60◦C) and Hii et al.
(for 40◦C and 50◦C) drying models. The coefficient of determination was the primary criterion for
selecting the best model to describe the drying curves.

AB - The successful implementation of chemical protection depends on two main factors.
The first factor relates to the selection of the compound and its application in adequate time, while
the second factor relates to the technical functionality of the parts of the machines used for the
application of the protective liquid, i.e. the nozzle. The technical functionality of the sprayer
elements, the proper tuning (calibration) and the correct selection of the nozzle all have a great
influence on the proper functionality of the sprayer elements. The proper technical functionality of
the sprayer is a prerequisite for the effective application of the protective liquid, for the financial
savings and the environmental protection as well as. In our practice, a particular problem is the fact
that agricultural producers do not perform regular annual controls on both the nozzles themselves
and the other elements of the sprayers.
This paper presents a comparative analysis of several types of sprayers, which have the same
type of nozzles, but with different factory declared flow. 25 sprayers were tested and divided into
four groups according to the exploitation period. In the first group of sprayers the nozzles were
within the factory declared flow rate (100% correct), while the fourth group of sprayers had half of
the nozzles (50% defective) for replacement. This research shows that the length of the exploitation significantly influences on the technical functionality of the sprayers. In order for as many sprayers as possible to meet the technical standards of EN 13790 to be applied in practice, it is necessary to regularly check the technical functionality of the nozzles, and all other elements of the sprayers by the users themselves, and periodically also by the authorized laboratories.
