AB - In recent years, the development of deep learning models that can generate more accurate predictions and operate in real-time has brought both opportunities and challenges across the various domains of robotic vision. This breakthrough enables researchers to design and deploy more challenging tasks on intelligent mobile robots, which require emphasized abilities of learning and reasoning. In this paper, a new method for intelligent robot control, based on deep learning and reinforcement learning is proposed. The fundamental idea of this work is how the UAV equipped with a monocular camera can learn significant information about the object of interest in the context of its localization and navigation. For such purpose, the object detection system based on Tiny YOLOv2 architecture is employed. Furthermore, bounding box data generated by a convolution neural network is utilized for depth estimation and determining object boundaries. This information has shown how the state-space dimensions can be significantly reduced, which was essential for further implementation of the Q-learning algorithm. In order to test the proposed framework, a model is developed in MATLAB Simulink. The simulation, which covered different scenarios, was carried out on the UAV within the 3D scene rendered by Unreal Engine. The obtained results have demonstrated the applicability of the proposed methodology for depth estimation, gathering information about the object, object-driven navigation, and autonomous localization and navigation.

AB - Risk based approach to assess structural integrity and life of pressure vessel has been presented, starring from EU PED 2014/68 and API 581, ending with use of basic fracture mechanics parameters. In the scope of risk matrix, structural integrity has been tackled by use of the Failure Assessment Diagram (FAD), while structural life was assessed by means of Paris law, using fatigue crack growth rate as relevant parameter. Several case studies have been provided to illustrate this comprehensive approach, including penstock and air storage tanks in Reversable Hydro Power Plant, and two spherical storage tanks, one for vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), the other for ammonia. Besides the assessment of integrity and life, including some important issue like over-pressurizing, roles of engineers and managers in this process is defined and explained.

AB - In recent years, quadrotors are one of the most popular platforms for the development of unmanned aerial vehicles, and their application trend is rapidly increasing for both commercial and research purposes. Their main advantages compared to other types of flying vehicles are the ability to hover, minimal operating space, vertical take-off, and landing capability, as well as smaller overall dimensions. However, their breakthrough into the market is due to their longer flight time and the fact that today they can carry much more payload. This paper aims to present the basic idea behind the conceptual development of the quadrotor, with special reference to aerodynamic effects that are important for this type of aircraft. It will be shown that, although thrust force is represented by simplified equations in literature, in the general case it depends on the vehicular velocity and its angle of attack. Therefore, its expressions will be different and will depend on flight mode, as is shown in the paper. Furthermore, it will be presented that less power is needed for the same thrust force when the quadrotor flights near the ground. The main advantages of the quadrotor concept will be explained, where it will be shown that blade flapping and the gyroscopic effect can be significantly suppressed due to the opposite direction of rotation of the rotor. The kinematic model is given and the formulated dynamic model is based on Newton-Euler formalism.

AB - This work presents total fatigue life prediction methodology of aircraft structural components under general load spectrum. Here is presented an effective computation procedure, that combines the finite element method (FEM) and strain-life methods to predict fatigue crack initiation life and fatigue crack growth model based on the strain energy density (SED) method. To validate computation procedure in this paper has been experimental tested specimens with a central hole under load spectrum in form of blocks. Total fatigue life of these specimens, defined as sum of crack initiation and crack growth life, was experimentally determined. Crack initiation life was computed using the theory of low cycle fatigue. Computation of crack initiation life was realized using Palmgreen-Miner’s linear rule of damage accumulation, applied on Morrow’s curves of low cycle fatigue. Crack growth life was computed using strain energy density (SED) method. The same low cyclic material properties of quenched and tempered steel 13H11N2V2MF, used for crack initiation life computation, were used for crack growth life computation. Residual life estimation of cracked duraluminum aircraft wing skin/plate 2219-T851 under multiple overload/underload load spectrum was considered too. Presented computation results were compared with own and available experimentally obtained results.

AB - Hot water boilers are most commonly used devices in thermal and industrial plants for heat production. Boilers elements are exposed to high pressures and temperatures during boiler operation. Non-stationary working regimes of boiler may lead to breakdowns and fatigue of boiler elements. There are numerous cases of breakdowns of such units, which lead to reduced reliability and safety of the plant. In order to avoid this state, certain investigation should be made that would examine the influence of different regimes on the boiler structure. Lack of available data concerning the temperature as well as stress-strain field in boiler elements led us to perform such kind of experiment. This paper presents results of numerical analysis performed on the modelled boiler. Validation of the numerical model was performed based on experimental results obtained using DIC (Digital Image Correlation) method by using Aramis system. The character of parameters change, such as strain and stress, occurring in the critical zones of boiler elements can be verified both by experimental and numerical results. In this paper the novel approach of experimental and numerical analysis is presented. The method can be used and conducted in similar units for testing on different loads or working regimes, as well as to improve the safety and reliability of similar pressure vessel units.

AB - associated with crane- related operations in different industrial fields. We used survey methods to analyse hundreds of worldwide data records over five years. A database has been made with the aim to focus on the main causes of accidents in various industrial contexts and in different countries. The outcomes actually indicated that most of the events arise due to wrong load handlings and placement, poor visibility while moving loads, etc. Cranes' dangerousness has significant relevance in chemical process industry and the intermodal transport, where accidental events could generate domino effects plus undesired release of hazardous substances. This complex analysis presented will allow commenting about future research trends and safety aspects in this area. We also expect that the outcomes can help in the area of risk prediction and of risk characteristics estimation.
