AB - The multi-objective optimization (MOO) of a planetary gearbox is a challenging optimization problem, which includes simultaneous minimization of a number of conflicting objectives including gearbox volume, contact ratio, power loss, etc., and at the same time satisfying a number of complex constraints. This paper addresses this complex problem by proposing a modified hybrid algorithm, named Multi-objective Hybrid Butterfly Optimization and Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm (HMOBPSO), which integrates PSO and Particle Swarm Optimization (BOA) algorithms with the aim to improve the performance with respect to the considered problem. The proposed approach solves the non-convex Pareto set and provides vital insights for lowering gear weight and efficiency and avoiding early failure. The experimental analysis employs numerical simulations to determine the Pareto optimal solutions to the formulated MOO problem. The results show that the proposed method offers significant improvements in terms of gearbox size, efficiency, and spacing compared to the conventional methods. In addition, an assessment of the optimization performance of the proposed HMOBPSO algorithm has been conducted by comparing it to other established algorithms across several ZDT and DTLZ benchmark problems, where it demonstrated its effectiveness.

AB - The doctoral dissertation investigates the synthesis of a proportional-difference-sum (PDS) type control system based on the characteristic polynomial of the full transfer function. The full transfer function makes it possible to obtain accurate results in terms of cancellation of equal zeros and poles, obtaining the characteristic polynomial and determining the full response of the system. At the beginning, the relative stability area in the space of adjustable parameters of the control system is determined so that damping coefficient ζ has the value required in advance. This was done in the case of two adjustable parameters using the examples of PD and PS control systems. In addition, an area of relative stability was found in the case of three adjustable parameters of the PDS control system. In the next step, the method of conditional optimization is implemented using an expression for the output error that includes the simultaneous influence of nonzero initial conditions and the external output, which is made possible by applying a full transfer function. Thus, the optimal parameters of the PDS type linear control systems are found for which the performance index, in the form of the sum of squared errors, has a minimum value.
In the second part of the dissertation, the previously developed method of conditional optimization of linear discrete systems is extended and applied to the class of nonlinear discrete systems, in the form of Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy systems. For this purpose, the property of the TS fuzzy system was used that the dynamics of a nonlinear system can be expressed using several linear (linearized) systems. The nonlinear Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model, which credibly describes the behavior of the system over the entire output space, is obtained by interpolating several linear mathematical models. A synthesis of a PDC (parallel distributed compensation) control system using the same membership functions as the nonlinear Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model of the plant was performed. Such control system interpolates several local linear control systems. Thanks to the theory of the complete transfer function, the most general and realistic case of conditional optimization of the local linear control systems is considered, where the output error is the result of the simultaneous action of nonzero initial conditions and external input. The optimal parameters for three local linear proportional-sum (PS) controllers at zero and nonzero initial conditions were determined, considering the requirement that all individual closed systems have the required damping coefficient ζ. Synthesis of a PDC controller that uses the same membership functions as the fuzzy TS plant model is made in two cases. In the first case, the PDC controller is composed of three local linear PS controllers whose parameters are determined at zero initial conditions. In the second case, the PDC controller consists of linear controllers whose parameters are determined at nonzero initial conditions.

AB - This paper addresses the problem of time difference of arrival (TDOA) based passive target localizationand proposes an improved chaos-driven hybrid differential evolution (DE) algorithm and butterfly optimization algorithm (BOA), named ICDEBOA, to solve this complex optimization problem. The proposed algorithm consists of a new mutation strategy with the mechanisms of the BOA algorithm incorporated into the DE algorithm. To boost optimization effectiveness, chaos theory is employed to adjust the control parameter values. The considered localization problem is formulated using the maximum likelihood estimator. To perform the accuracy comparison, the convex constrained weighting least squares algorithm is applied to the considered localization problem as the widely used method in literature. The statistical analysis shows that the proposed modifications to the ICDEBOA algorithm improve its optimization performance, as demonstrated by the improved performance on the CEC2014 benchmark problems. The ICDEBOA algorithm is also shown to be more robust than existing algorithms in noisy environments. Numerical simulation results show that the proposed ICDEBOA algorithm meets the CRLB and achieves better performance than the CWLS, DE, and BOA algorithms.

AB - The study proposes a novel method for synthesis of a discrete-time parallel distributed
compensation (PDC) controller for the nonlinear discrete-time Takagi–Sugeno (TS) fuzzy plant model. For each of the fuzzy plant model linear subsystems, a local linear first order proportional-sum (PS) controller is designed. The algebraic technique is used in two-dimensional parameter space, utilizing the characteristic polynomial of the row nondegenerate full transfer function matrix. Each system’s relative stability is accomplished in relation to the selected damping coefficient. The supplementary criterion is the minimal value of the performance index in the form of the sum of squared errors (SSE). However, unlike the traditional technique, output error is influenced by all simultaneous actions on the system: nonzero inputs and nonzero initial conditions. The full transfer function matrix of the system allows for the treatment of simultaneous actions of the input vector and unknown unpredictable initial conditions. In order to show the improvement caused by the application of a new optimization method that considers nonzero initial conditions, a comparison of PDC controllers designed under zero and nonzero initial conditions is given, where the system in both cases starts from the same nonzero initial conditions, which is often the case in practice. The simulation and experimental results on a DC servo motor are shown to demonstrate the suggested method efficiency.

compensation (PDC) controller for the nonlinear discrete-time Takagi–Sugeno (TS) fuzzy plant model. AB - Even though, it is mostly used by process control engineers, the temperature control remains an important task for researchers. This paper addressed two separate issues concerning model optimization and control. Firstly, the linear models for the three different operating points of the heat flow system were found. From these identified models a Takagi-Sugeno model is obtained using fixed membership functions in the premises of the rules. According to the chosen objective function, parameters in the premise part of Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model were optimized using the grey wolf algorithm. Furthermore, by using the parallel distributed compensation a fuzzy controller is developed via the fuzzy blending of three proportional + sum controllers designed for each of the operating points. In order to evaluate performance, a comparison is made between the fuzzy controller and local linear controllers. Moreover, the fuzzy controllers from the optimized and initial Takagi-Sugeno plant models are compared. The experimental results on a heat flow platform are presented to validate efficiency of the proposed method.

AB - The paper presents a new approach to the design of the classical PD controller for the plant in the closed loop control system. Proposed controller has two unknown adjustable parameters which are designed by the algebraic method in the two dimensional parameter space, by using the newly discovered characteristic polynomial of the row nondegenerate full transfer function matrix. The system relative stability, in regard to the chosen damping coefficient is achieved. The optimality criterion is the minimal value of the performance index and sum of squared error is taken as an objective function. The output error used in the performance index is influenced by all actions on the system at the same time: by nonzero initial conditions and by nonzero inputs. In the classical approach the output error is influenced only by nonzero inputs. Experimental results confirm that by taking into account nonzero initial conditions, an optimal solution is obtained, which is not the case with the classical method where optimization is performed at zero initial conditions.

AB - In this paper, we have considered tip interference and radial interference of internal involute spur gears. Equations of tooth profiles are provided and operating constraints for internal gears are defined. The undercutting and interference of the teeth profiles are the main problems for the practical application of internal gears in planetary gear trains, which requires particular attention in the design of planetary gear trains. The problem of avoiding interference of internal involute spur gears is especially challenging. Therefore, it is necessary to create the corresponding geometric models and express the above requirements by the corresponding functional constraints to verify the engagement condition. The developed geometrical model of the tooth surfaces is most helpful in the analysis of meshing interference, contact, and stress analyzing, manufacturing, measuring, and optimizing internal gear sets. The numerical results are tested by computerized simulation of the meshing of internal involute spur gears.

AB - This paper considers the problem of formulating the non-linear optimization model for determining the optimal parameters of planetary gearbox, which is solved using a metaheuristic optimization algorithm. To determine the optimal parameters of the planetary gearbox it is necessary to formulate complex objective functions and minimize them, which is often a conflicting problem. To solve this complex optimization problem, in this paper we propose to employ metaheuristic algorithms, which characterize pseudo-randomness and the ability to find the global optimal solution to the multimodal optimization problems. The proposed metaheuristic method is based on the Genetic Algorithm (GA) which is hybridized with the local-search Nelder-Mead method. For the considered optimization problem, the appropriate software is implemented in the MATLAB software package, to verify the results. Inside the considered optimization module, we have defined the appropriate objective functions and constraints which determine the construction of the planetary gearbox. The optimal parameters of the planetary gearbox obtained using the proposed metaheuristic algorithm are compared with the results obtained using several well-known algorithms in the literature. The simulation results of the proposed optimization method indicate a significant improvement in planetary gearbox performance compared to the parameters obtained with well-known algorithms.

AB - Accurate localization of target based on time difference of arrival (TDOA) measurements is of crucial importance in a large number of different military and civil applications, especially in security systems, radars, sonars etc. This paper focuses on the determining the position of a target from a set of TDOA measurements obtained on several receivers whose positions are known. The considered target localization problem is formulated as the optimization problem, where the corresponding objective function is obtained based on least squares (LS) method. Due to the complexity of the considered problem, the resulting objective function is highly nonlinear and multimodal. Therefore, to solve this complex optimization problem this paper proposes the hybridization of Genetic Algorithm (GA) with well-known Gauss-Newton (GN) method. The performance of considered hybrid algorithm is investigated and compared to well-known conventional optimization algorithms in solving the considered TDOA based localization problem. The simulation results of the proposed optimization method indicate a significant improvement in localization accuracy compared to well-known algorithms.

AB - This paper considers the problem of finding the position of a passive target using noisy time difference of arrival (TDOA) measurements, obtained from multiple transmitters and a single receiver. The maximum likelihood (ML) estimator’s objective function is extremely nonlinear and non-convex, making it impossible to use traditional optimization techniques. In this regard, this paper proposes the chaos-enhanced adaptive hybrid butterfly particle swarm optimization algorithm, named CAHBPSO, as the hybridization of butterfly optimization (BOA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithms, to estimate passive target position. In the proposed algorithm, an adaptive strategy is employed to update the sensory fragrance of BOA algorithm, and chaos theory is incorporated into the inertia weight of PSO algorithm. Furthermore, an adaptive switch probability is employed to combine global and local search phases of BOA with the PSO algorithm. Additionally, the semidefinite programming is employed to convert the considered problem into a convex one. The statistical comparison on CEC2014 benchmark problems shows that the proposed algorithm provides a better performance compared to well-known algorithms. The CAHBPSO method surpasses the BOA, PSO and semidefinite programming (SDP) algorithms for a broad spectrum of noise, according to simulation findings, and achieves the Cramer–Rao lower bound (CRLB).

AB - The present paper studies the impingement of compressible air jet on a flat plate primarily from the aspect of its application in the domain of pneumatic metrology, i.e. in cases of small distance between the jet nozzle exit and the flat plate. Besides this direct application in the area of pneumatic metrology, the distance between the nozzle exit and the flat plate has been considerably increased and the case of a free jet was analysed with a view to compare the results applicable in various domains. This experimental study demonstrates that the structures of a free jet and this special case of an impingement jet are totally different. In the pressure distribution of the impingement jet, pressure discontinuity above the flat plate may occur, which is shown to be the result of low intensity shock waves and transonic flow. The experimental results show that the pneumatic sensitivity of a pneumatic comparator is a function of the supply pressure and the internal orifice diameter, as well as that the impingement air jet is a typical case of non-isentropic flow.

abstract = "The present paper studies the impingement of compressible air jet on a flat plate primarily from the aspect of its application in the domain of pneumatic metrology, i.e. in cases of small distance between the jet nozzle exit and the flat plate. The experimental results show that the pneumatic sensitivity of a pneumatic comparator is a function of the supply pressure and the internal orifice diameter, as well as that the impingement air jet is a typical case of non-isentropic flow.",

Furthermore, parameters for the controller were optimized using grey wolf optimizer. In addition to the classical controller, fuzzy PID like controller has also been designed and optimized using the same optimization algorithm. Experimental results obtained on the tank system are provided.

AB - Dynamic systems operate under the simultaneous influence of both the initial conditions and the input vector. There is neither physical nor mathematical justification for ignoring the initial conditions, e.g., in the control optimisation. This paper gives a response to the following question: Is a set of controller parameters which is optimal for the operation of a control system under zero initial conditions also optimal for its operation under non-zero initial conditions? The paper presents a new approach to the design of a classical proportional-differencesum (PDS) controller for a plant in a closed loop control system. The system relative stability with respect to a desired damping coefficient is accomplished. The minimal value of the performance index in the form of the sum of squared errors is the optimality criterion. Unlike the classical approach, the output error used in the performance index is influenced by all actions performed on the system at the same time.

AB - The study investigates the influence of the load distribution on lubricant film thickness between the rolling elements and raceways of the deep groove ball bearing using the conventional theory of elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) with an applied original mathematical model of load distribution between the rolling elements developed by the authors. A presented mathematical model takes into account the influence of bearing operational load and internal geometry (number of balls and radial internal clearance) on lubricant film thickness between balls and raceways. The analyses show that the lubricant film thickness between the balls and raceways decreases with the decrease of the number of balls, a decrease of bearing load and increase of radial internal clearance, due to the increase of inequality of load distribution. The obtained analytical results can be useful for bearing design development as well as in analyses of lubrication conditions of rolling elements bearings in general.

AB - This paper considers the problem of constrained multi-objective non-linear optimization of planetary gearbox based on hybrid metaheuristic algorithm. Optimal design of planetary gear trains requires simultaneous minimization of multiple conflicting objectives, such as gearbox volume, center distance, contact ratio, power loss, etc. In this regard, the theoretical formulation and numerical procedure for the calculation of the planetary gearbox power efficiency has been developed. To successfully solve the stated constrained multi-objective optimization problem, in this paper a hybrid algorithm between particle swarm optimization and differential evolution algorithms has been proposed and applied to considered problem. Here, the mutation operators from the differential evolution algorithm have been incorporated into the velocity update equation of the particle swarm optimization algorithm, with the adaptive population spacing parameter employed to select the appropriate mutation operator for the current optimization condition. It has been shown that the proposed algorithm successfully obtains the solutions of the non-convex Pareto set, and reveals key insights in reducing the weight, improving efficiency and preventing premature failure of gears. Compared to other well-known algorithms, the numerical simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithm shows improved optimization performance in terms of the quality of the obtained Pareto solutions.

AB - The load distribution of simultaneously meshed gear teeth pairs has a significant influence in determining the relevant stress for the working capacity calculation of cylindrical gear pairs with respect to surface and volume strength. According to conventional calculation procedures, the influence of the boundary-ideally uniform load distribution, when all simultaneously meshed teeth pairs are equally engaged in the load transfer, on the teeth flanks stress state is taken into account by approximate expressions for contact ratio factor Z epsilon. In addition, this factor is not defined, no assumptions were given on the basis of which approximate expressions were determined, and no procedure for determining these expressions was disclosed. This paper defines a factor on the basis of which an analysis of the boundary-ideally uniform load distribution can be carried out. By observing the contact lines in the meshing area, when one and two or two and three meshed gear teeth pairs are alternating during the meshing period, a set of analytical expressions is developed to describe the boundary-ideally uniform load distribution of simultaneously meshed gear teeth pairs. Based on the developed analytical expressions, the limiting values of the gear teeth flank stresses can be determined more precisely and the degree of accuracy of the approximate expressions for the contact ratio factor which are given in conventional calculation procedures can be tested. The analysis carried out in this paper can be used for more accurate considerations of all cylindrical gear pairs occurrences which depend on load distribution, such as: load capacity, mesh stiffness, vibration, noise, energy efficiency, etc.

AB - This paper contains elements of a comprehensive research devoted to the dynamic behavior of radial ball bearings in real working conditions. The general motivation for this topic comes from the requirements for high performance operation of bearings within complex mechanical systems, defined in many industrial branches during the last decades. The discussion of the fundamental postulates of the approach used for analyzing the vibration response of rolling ball bearings in order to select the optimal working conditions is given. The certain simplifications and reductions used for analyzing the radial ball bearings are explained. The developed procedure can be used for research of influence of different damages and variable operation conditions on the rolling bearings dynamics. The detail analyses of the dynamic behavior of rolling bearings are performed for particular types of radial ball bearings in two case studies: For the damaged outer raceway surface in accordance with real fatigue damage shapes and dimensions and, for variable working temperature. Obtained results are shown by comparative diagrams of vibration and phase plane portraits. Presented results could be a base for more widely research of nonlinear dynamics of radial ball bearings with different damages and for the application of phase plane analysis in order to choose the optimal operation conditions.

the problem concerning liquid level control. Effective control
of a system depends largely on the accuracy of the
mathematical model that predicts its dynamic behavior. In
this paper the Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model for the coupledtank system was acquired based on empirical technique.
Furthermore, a metaheuristic algorithm was used as an

system is presented for the speed control in direct current -
DC motor. Nonlinear functions of dead zone, Coulomb and
viscous friction were investigated and used for obtaining the
mathematical model. The effectiveness and the comparison
between linear and nonlinear control signal have been
confirmed using Matlab/Simulink software. From the
conclusions, based on the experimental results, it is easy to

AB - The liquid level control remains an important task for research and is used by process control engineers. Linear models for the tank system were obtained based on empirical techniques. From these identified linear models Takagi-Sugeno model was obtained and later a fuzzy controller was designed based on the parallel distributed compensation method (PDC). A comparison was made between local linear PI controllers and the parallel distributed compensation controller. The evaluation criteria which was considered in this paper is the step response. In addition to all of the above stated, the whale optimization algorithm is implemented to fine tune parameters and to obtain optimized Takagi-Sugeno plant model. Moreover, the PDC from optimized model is compared to the first parallel distributed controller, which was based on identified models.

AB - In this paper a comparison between three different
types of trained VGG convolutional neural networks (CNNs) is
proposed for the classification of a pediatric chest X-ray image
data set. A deep convolutional neural network with an
architecture resembling the VGGNet is presented using dropout,
decay and data scaling. Since the dataset had a class imbalance,
this was solved using a simple method called data scaling. The
training of the neural network was done using small batches with
a binary cross entropy loss function. The same neural network
was then implemented adding batch normalization layers, and
comparisons were made. Furthermore, the chest X-ray dataset
was also trained using transfer learning with a pre-trained
neural network VGG16 on the ImageNet dataset. Later on
juxtapositions were made on using both techniques. Additionally,
in applying these methods we were able to achieve a classification
with the accuracy higher than 0.95 and 0.97 for the training and
validation datasets, whilst incorporating only 30 epochs.

classification of COVID-CT (CT_COVID, CT_NonCOVID)
image data set. Four different types of deep convolutional
neural networks are proposed, two with the architecture
resembling the VGGNet, one resembling the LeNet-5 and
one using transfer learning. In addition, neural networks
utilized the following techniques: decay, dropout and batch
normalization. Since we needed to combat a significantly
small dataset, we used data augmentation in order to
transform and expand our dataset. Moreover,
juxtapositions were made when observing the results given
by these four neural networks, as well as the affect made by
two different optimizers. The training of the neural
networks was done using small batches with a binary cross

AB - This paper presents the development of a methodology for calculating radial ball bearing vibrations. First, analytical and numerical models were developed and then, the obtained results were experimentally verified. In the experiment, a test rig for a dynamic testing of bearings subjected to an external load was used. Special attention was paid to the analysis of the total bearing deformations and stiffness, being the main parameters that define the dynamic behaviour of a bearing. In order to determine total deformations of a ball bearing as an assembly, a finite element model of the bearing was developed. The results obtained from the new methodology for a particular ball bearing type have been verified by experimental results. The obtained correlations of the experimental and the numerical results are about 2.5%. Based on the calculations and the experimental testing of the chosen ball bearing type, under conditions of a variable radial load, the analysis of the influence of the radial load on the dynamic behaviour of a ball bearing was performed. The analysis of the obtained results showed that the vibration amplitude increases with a similar multiple factor as loads increase.

Based on the calculations and the experimental testing of the chosen ball bearing type, under conditions of a variable radial load, the analysis of the influence of the radial load on the dynamic behaviour of a ball bearing was performed. The analysis of the obtained results showed that the vibration amplitude increases with a similar multiple factor as loads increase.",
