AB - An additional attention must be payed to the energy efficiency of refrigerated vans transporting perishable foodstuffs, because inefficient operation of refrigeration units installed on these vehicles increases fuel consumption and exhaust gases emissions. The amount of fuel consumed by mechanical refrigeration unit drive can be reduced in many ways. This paper is analysing the impact of thermal insulation quality on the fuel consumed by mechanical refrigeration unit installed on a typical van. The results of the research show that by choosing better-quality thermal insulation around € 420 can be saved annually on fuel consumed by mechanical refrigeration unit driven by vehicle's engine while transporting deeply frozen fish at -20 °C (or other foodstuffs at given temperature). If the van is transporting raw meat (for example) at 0 °C annual savings can be around € 110. When the van is used for transport of deeply frozen fish the investment will pay off after 3.5 years of vehicle exploitation, while if the raw meat is transported the investment will pay off after approximately 14 years. The analysis includes the price of insulating the van, current fuel price in Serbia, as well as the average monthly temperatures in the territory of Belgrade, Serbia.

AB - The current state of vehicle technology development has been characterized by the production of a very wide range of different types and categories of vehicles. Modern vehicles are characterized by a great complexity of fitted parts and mechanisms. These facts inevitably lead to the intensive development of legislation that cover the entire field of the automotive industry, as well as its harmonization at the international level. From the very beginning of harmonization, Yugoslavia has played a very active role in the development and implementation of the Regulations adopted within the United Nations, the Economic Commission for Europe. As the legal successor, Serbia continued on that path, but due to the situation in the previous 30 years, the activities within the harmonization of regulations have been significantly slowed down, primarily with the European legislation. The paper presents the current state of harmonization of regulations in Serbia with European legislation, as well as certain inconsistencies that occurred during the application of national regulations and performed comparative analysis. Also, an overview of the plan for harmonization of legislation has been given, and some examples of non-compliance are pointed out, which should be overcome with the proposed harmonization plan.

AB - This paper presents an experimental investigation of the heat dissipation from stationary brake discs concentrated on four disc designs: a ventilated disc with radial vanes, two types of ventilated discs with curved vanes (a non-drilled and cross-drilled disc), and a solid disc. The experiments were conducted on a purpose-built thermal spin rig and provided repeatable and accurate temperature measurement and reliable prediction of the total, convective and radiative heat dissipation coefficients The values obtained compare favourably with computational fluid dynamics results for the ventilated disc with radial vanes and solid disc, though the differences were somewhat pronounced for the ventilated disc. The speeds of the hot air rising above the disc are under 1 m/s, hence too low to experimentally validate. However, the use of a smoke generator and suitable probe was beneficial in qualitatively validating the flow patterns for all four disc designs Convective heat transfer coefficients increase with temperature, but the values are very low, typically between 3 W/(m(2)K) and 5 W/(m(2)K) for the disc designs and temperature range analysed. As expected, from the four designs studied, the disc with radial vanes has the highest convective heat dissipation coefficient and the solid disc the lowest, being about 30 % inferior. Convective heat dissipation coefficient for the discs with curved vanes was about 20 % lower than for the disc with radial vanes, with the cross-drilled design showing marginal improvement at higher temperatures.

AB - Modern technology has made electric vehicles more accessible, which is important for the preservation of the environment. Although eco-friendly, from the standpoint of pedestrian safety, they may be baleful. The low levels of noise emitted by electric vehicles at speeds lower than 20 km/h are not sufficient for the pedestrian to become aware of the approaching vehicle based on sound. The topic of this paper is the research of sounds used to warn pedestrians of an incoming electric vehicle, while the goal is to single out the most suitable applicable sound based on an unique self-developed multiparameter methodology (which has been experimentally proved). The paper contains the results of the experiments, both of selecting the most suitable applicable sound and driving-range testing.

AB - The goal of this paper is to analyse the collected data on energy efficiency of electric vehicles from researches done by other authors and also to summarise all the factors affecting it. The majority of data available are obtained through simula-tions – therefore the emphasis in this paper will be placed on experimentally acquired data. The results of the analysis will be used for the planned e-bus eco-driving project for the purpose of Belgrade’s public transportation system. Currently there are only 5 (ultracapacitor type) e-buses operating in Belgrade city public transport, which makes only 0.2 % of all vehicles in rolling stock (making 16 % together with other electric-powered vehicles – trams and trolleybuses), but there are plans to acquire new 80 electric buses. With the rise of the number of electric vehicles, appropriate training of drivers is gaining more and more importance, and the results of the presented analysis make the basis for such training. This will hopefully increase the range of the buses used and help save the energy spent by public transportation, thus giving a little contribution to global fight for cleaner planet.

AB - Limited reserves of oil and the increasing environmental effect of its usage as a motor fuel represent global issue related to the constantly increasing number of motor vehicles. Therefore, the reduction of the fossil fuel consumed and the emission produced in internal combustion engines is the primary goal of the development of motor vehicle propulsion systems. In that sense, the present and the future of motor vehicles relies on hybrid drive systems, electric drive systems and drive systems which use hydrogen as a fuel (either by its combustion or by production of electric energy with the help of fuel cells). In this paper, the authors have presented the aforementioned motor vehicle propulsion systems by explaining their function and design, their basic elements and their functions. Authors have also analysed advantages and disadvantages of the mentioned propulsion systems in comparison to conventional internal combustion engine based systems, both technically and environmentally speaking, but also in relation to available infrastructure and energy resources.

AB - This paper analyzes the influence of damping ratio on the behaviour of the suspension system.
Different tests have been carried out to simulate different types of vehicle movement. Simulations were performed in CarSim 8 software for the vehicle with chosen characteristics. Appropriate conclusions are drawn on the basis of conducted simulations, i.e. the differences in the behavior of the suspension system and the vehicle depending on the selected damping ratio are shown. Selected damping ratios correspond to two chosen damping levels of the damper: a higher and lower value of damping ratio. Symmetrical damper characteristic is used, as in the most theoretical analyzes.

AB - One of the directions for making cleaner and more economic vehicles is to adopt electric vehicle concept. The paper shows current design concepts for electric vehicles worldwide, as well as current sources for supplying vehicles with electric energy. It describes a conversion of one vehicle so that it can be powered by electric motor. The results of tractive and dynamic characteristics calculation and vehicle stability simulation, before and after the conversion, are shown. Obtained results and influential factors are analysed so they can be optimised in order to influence the final characteristics of the converted vehicle. The conclusion is that the complete optimisation process should be performed before the beginning of vehicle conversion in order to avoid undesirable effects, i.e. undesirable characteristics of converted vehicle and high conversion costs.

AB - The results of tests according to Regulation (EU) No 65/2012 regarding gear shift indicators on 59 different vehicles are analyzed. Primary parameters were the vehicle speeds at which the gear shift is indicated through gear shift indicator (GSI), and based on their deviation from standard gear shift points defined for type I emission tests in UNECE Regulation No 83, it is concluded that standard gear shift points need to be revised. Relative fuel savings when shifting according to GSI instructions compared to standard gear shift points were analyzed (average 5.2%, maximum 19.9%). It is also shown that automaatic transmission gave bigger fuel saving when manual mode is used according to GSI, compared to manual transmission, also used with GSI. It is concluded that statistical analysis on how drivers follow GSI instructions may be used to improve current test procedures for GSI efficiency, fuel consumption measurement and emission tests.

AB - The manner of gear shifting is one of the main factors affecting the fuel efficiency of motor vehicles. Potential savings resulted from optimized gear shifting led to introduction of gear shift indicators in passenger vehicles as an obligation from year 2012. The effects of gear shift indicators usage are still not studied enough. That was the motive for the authors to conduct the experiments to justiji their usage, both from the economic and ecological standpoint. The presented results come from the tests conducted on FIAT 500L vehicle to determine the fuel consumption using the new European driving cycle, but for three different gear shift patterns:- (1) as defined in UNECE Regulation No, 83,(2) as indicated by vehicle's gear shift indicator, and (3) based on the average vehicle speed values collected from gear shift indicators of 35 passenger vehicles of different makes, types, and characteristics. Maximum difference in fuel consumption recorded in tests done using three different gear shift patterns is 18.7%.

AB - Yugoslavia was one of the first countries to accede to ATP agreement in 1975. The Republic of Serbia confirmed the Agreement on 5 December 2011 and was the first in the region to implement it in practice. Implementation of the Agreement could not be carried out without the birth pangs, for many reasons - old equipment, absence of road checks, counterfeit certificates and more. However, the number of equipment registered or built in Serbia and complying with the Agreement is getting bigger every day. This paper presents the experiences of Serbia's only ATP testing station obtained through testing of the equipment in use. Furthermore, 117 collected times needed for special equipment to reach the temperature declared by their class are analysed and compared between the boxes of different ages, taking into account the capacity of the refrigeration unit.

This paper presents the experiences of Serbia's only ATP testing station obtained through testing of the equipment in use. Furthermore, 117 collected times needed for special equipment to reach the temperature declared by their class are analysed and compared between the boxes of different ages, taking into account the capacity of the refrigeration unit.",

AB - Warranty is a powerful marketing tool, but it always involves additional costs to the manufacturer. In order to reduce these costs and make use of warranty's marketing potential, the manufacturer needs to master the techniques for warranty cost prediction according to the reliability characteristics of the product. In this paper a combination free replacement and pro rata warranty policy is analysed as warranty model for one type of light bulbs. Since operating conditions have a great impact on product reliability, they need to be considered in such analysis. A neural network model is used to predict light bulb reliability characteristics based on the data from the tests of light bulbs in various operating conditions. Compared with a linear regression model used in the literature for similar tasks, the neural network model proved to be a more accurate method for such prediction. Reliability parameters obtained in this way are later used in Monte Carlo simulation for the prediction of times to failure needed for warranty cost calculation. The results of the analysis make possible for the manufacturer to choose the optimal warranty policy based on expected product operating conditions. In such a way, the manufacturer can lower the costs and increase the profit.

AB - Whole-body vibration has negative effects on passengers' comfort, health and safety. The objective of this study is to reduce these negative effects by optimising the control of an active suspension system according to the simulated behaviour of suspension system and collected data on the effects of vibration on passengers' body. Quarter-car model is created to simulate the behaviour of the suspension system in MATLAB. The parameters of suspension system components, both passive and active, are varied together with road profile parameters to obtain the set of correlations between these parameters and vehicle response. This data set is later used to train a backpropagation neural network which will serve as a controller for the active suspension system. Active suspension system controller created this way will operate based on the criteria of lowering the negative effects of whole-body vibration. Desirable vibration parameters are defined according to the collected data from the literature. The ability of the trained neural network to control the suspension system in a desired way is tested by simulating the quarter-car model behaviour in a series of predefined driving cycles. These cycles are created in such way to take into account a different road profiles (including the type and quality of road surface and road gradient) and different traffic conditions (urban and extra urban). When given the desired range of whole-body vibration frequencies, neural network model created for the purpose of this paper is efficient in more than 92% of operating time for all predefined driving cycles. When changing the desired range of vibration frequencies during driving, time needed for suspension system to adapt never exceeds 0.43 seconds. The effectiveness of the presented method is limited by the operating range of suspension system active components. Another limitation is the use of quarter-car model – further investigation will incorporate the tests on physical model, and later, on a real vehicle. The presented paper introduces the use of pre-collected data on vibration effect on human body as a guide for controlling the active suspension system. Additionally, there is a possibility to set the suspension system to conform to individual requests of the passengers. The task of the methodology presented is to reduce the negative effects of vibration induced by road unevenness on passengers' bodies. Neural Network model proved as an efficient tool for the optimisation of suspension system by retaining the vibration amplitudes and frequencies in a range least harmful to the passengers.

AB - Influence of whole-body vibration on reaction times was studied on a specially developed rig, with the subjects being exposed to no vibration, and vibration frequencies of 1, 5, 20 and 50 Hz. The shortest reaction times for both, sound and visual stimuli were measured for no vibration of the seating platform. The most detrimental influence was observed at vibration frequency of 5 Hz, with reaction times typically increasing between 50 and 70 ms. The shortest reaction times were always measured at the beginning of tests and the longest at the end. The increases in reaction times with elapsed time were typically more pronounced when subjects were exposed to sound stimuli. Equally, under the same conditions, reaction times to sound stimuli were longer than to visual stimuli (by approx. 60 to 100 ms). In all cases, changes in standard deviation values follow the same pattern as average reaction times.

AB - In recent years, the motor vehicle industry has shown a tendency of replacing electro-mechanical components by mechatronic systems with intelligent and autonomous properties. The integration of hardware components and implementation of advance control function characterize this replacement. In this text, we have applied the system approach and system engineering methods in the initial phase of vehicle active suspension development. An emphasis has been placed upon the interrelations between computer-aided simulation and other elements of development process. The benefits of the application of active suspension simulation are numerous: reduction of time to market, the new and improved functions of mechatronic components/devices, and the increased system reliability. In suspension model development, we used CAD/ CAE tools, as well as the multipurpose simulation programs. For simulation, we used the quarter-car model. The modeling was carried out through the state-space equation, after which we designed two variants of controller for the suspension system - proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller and neural network controller.

Merenjem opterećenja pneumatika, i kasnijom integracijom izmerenih vrednosti u razvijeni softverski modul, obezbeđuje se precizno definisanje otpora povođenju na određenom kontaktu vozila i puta. Istraživanje podrazumeva integraciju matematičkog modela, mehaničkih, elektronskih i informacionih tehnologija u cilju obezbeđivanja sveobuhvatnog sagledavanja ponašanja pneumatika u pogledu definisanja otpora povođenju.
AB - This paper demonstrates the approach to determination of cornering stiffness as the most important parameter of motor vehicle steering and stability systems through integration of empirical models and real exploitation parameters. The approach is based on the analysis of a tire mathematical model, identification of key real exploitation parameters and integration of a mechatronic system for tire load monitoring. Measurement of tire load and subsequent integration of measured values into developed software module provide a precise definition of cornering stiffness for a certain vehicle and road contact patch. This research assumes integration of a mathematical model and mechanical, electronic and information technologies with the aim of comprehensive understanding of tire behavior in terms of cornering stiffness determination.

AB - Warranty is a powerful marketing instrument for the manufacturer and a good protection for both the manufacturer and the customer, but it always involves additional costs to the manufacturer. This paper deals with the warranty forecasting by estimating the future warranty returns in order to anticipate associated costs. The warranty prediction model is based on a Weibull analysis and a Monte Carlo simulation. Data gathered through the accelerated life-cycle analysis of 20 light bulb units of the new type were used as an input for the Weibull analysis to obtain the parameters needed for the simulation. MATLAB simulation algorithm was developed especially for this purpose. Warranty analysis was done for three variants of fully renewing combination free replacement and pro-rata policy and for several combinations of warranty period and free replacement period lengths. The results showed the relation between the parameters that define the policy and associated cost to the manufacturer. Presented simulation algorithm proved to be a fast and reliable tool for warranty cost analysis.

AB - Product development risk increases more and more every day and one of the factors that affect this risk is product warranty. Warranty is a powerful marketing instrument for the manufacturer and at the same time a good protection for both the manufacturer and the customer, but it always involves additional costs to the manufacturer. These costs depend on the product reliability and the warranty parameters. This paper deals with the optimization of these parameters for known product failure distribution to reduce the warranty costs to the manufacturer while retaining the promotional function of the warranty. Combination free replacement and pro‐rata warranty policy is chosen as a model and the length of free replacement and pro‐rata policy periods are varied, as well as the coefficients that define the pro‐rata cost function. Warranty costs are obtained in two ways ‐ by using analytical equations and by simulation. The obtained results are shown and discussed and some concluding remarks are given.

AB - The implementation of various electronic subsystems in passenger cars and different kinds of on-road and off-road vehicles is constantly expanding. Accordingly the new vehicles, instead of being mechanical systems, become advanced mechatronic systems whose development and testing call for a new approach. Possibility of using data available on vehicles network seems to be extremely powerful tool on it. The paper deals with a new approach for service load data measurement and acquisition as a helpful tool in development and testing of vehicles. Based on complexity of the system and different communication protocols on the vehicles' networks it was found as extremely practical solution to make approach which will be based on standards which are widely accepted by the industry. The new approach is based on hardware and software platform oriented to the main vehicle controllers with the task to acquire data which exist on the network and which are relevant to the transmission service load. The said hardware as well as software utilities have to enable computer based monitoring of the vehicle systems behaviour and in that way to be the tool for new vehicles development. The new system was tested in real service. It was found that the system can enable significantly less time of vehicle instrumentation before testing and accurate data acquisition.

AB - This paper shows elaborated theoretical-experimental method used to optimize dynamic behavior of modular superstructures of firefighting vehicles. Harsh exploitation conditions under which firefighting vehicles operates and special requirements for this type of vehicles require dedicated approach to optimization of superstructures in terms of stress, deformation, fatigue, noise, comfort and effectiveness. Optimization implies selection of optimal shapes, materials, dimensions, mountings, suspension, damping and insulation of modules to attain optimal dynamic behavior of superstructure. Method described in this paper can be divided into two interconnected parts - theoretical and experimental. Theoretical part consists of numerical modeling of superstructure variants and calculation of their responses to dynamic excitations using FEM, whose results are later validated through experiments. Experimental part of this method is based on excitation of superstructure physical models with, for this purpose specially developed, mechanical exciter, monitoring of superstructure response and changing of the input parameters in the design of superstructure to create the superstructure with best possible dynamic characteristics. Natural frequencies of structures, important in terms of resonant zones, are obtained using bump tests and FFT analysis. This method has proved suitable for optimization of dynamic behavior of modular superstructures such as those of firefighting vehicles. Complete testing installation used in this method is illustratively shown in this paper. Also, there are guidelines for further development and improvement of this method.

Takođe, date su smernice za dalje aktivnosti, razvoj i unapređenje ove metode., This paper shows elaborated theoretical-experimental method used to optimize dynamic behavior of modular superstructures of firefighting vehicles. Also, there are guidelines for further development and improvement of this method.",
