AB - This book is mainly based on the material initially published in Serbian, in 2021, by the University
of Belgrade, Faculty of Mining and Geology, under the title Mathematical Physics (Theory and
Examples). For the purpose of this book the material from the Serbian edition was reviewed,
amended, and translated, with new material added in two final chapters in the second volume.
We have divided text into two separate volumes:
Mathematics of Physics - Analytical Methods and
Mathematics of Physics - Numerical Methods.
The first volume consists of 8 chapters:
- The first 7 chapters were written by Dragoslav Kuzmanovic, Dobrica Nikolic and Ivan
Obradovic, and correspond to the text from Chapters 1-8 of the Serbian edition, translated
by Ivan Obradovic.
- The material of Chapter 8, which is of a monographic character, corresponds to the material
of Chapter 9 in the Serbian edition, but was thoroughly reviewed and rewritten in English
by Mihailo Lazarević.

Ovo drugo izdanje udžbenika predstavlja doradjen udzbenik "Matematička fizika", Naime, dodata su nova poglavlja: "Frakcioni izvodi" (M. Lazarević) i, u numerickom delu, "Zapreminski elementi" (N. Mladenović). Pored ovog, izvrsene su manje izmene u nekim delovima knjige (dodat Gram-Smitov postupak ortogonalizacije, proširen deo o Eliptickim integralima, dotate neke specijalne funkcije, ...). Dodati su i novi zadaci, za koje smatramo da bi bili zanimljivi studentima Geofizike.

AB - Authors analyze stress-strain distribution within slope using the shear stress reduction technique based on finite element method, which was previously confirmed to provide approximately the same results as the Janbu's corrected limit equilibrium method. Results obtained indicate that the largest vertical displacements occur at the slope base and crest, while central part of the slope is exposed to the largest horizontal displacements. Normal and shear stress show maximum values in the middle part of the slope. It was also determined that separate stress-strain relations could be derived for the exact upper and lower part of the rupture surface.
