AB - Bridge constructions are developing rapidly as they are necessity in the transport network. The Passenger Boarding Bridge (PBB) provides passengers with means to embark and disembark a ship through weather protected tunnels. It is obvious that the endurance and safety of such structures are of paramount importance. It has been shown that forces and moments at three-tunnel boarding bridge supports were high in the critical cases, as well as stresses in pins and lugs. The aim of this research is to analyze crack propagation in the damaged supporting part of the PBB. After determination of critical components to demonstrate how dangerous the appearance of the crack could be and to evaluate the fatigue life of the damaged supporting part, numerical simulations based on the improved finite element method (FEM) were carried out. To do this, the determination of actual loads was conducted with special consideration. The predicted number of cycles to complete failure was low, indicating the fact that special attention has to be paid on the design of PBB’s critical supporting components.

AB - We aimed to assess the near infrared spectroscopy as a method for non-invasive on-line detection of hyperglycemia from spent hemodialysis effluent. We used partial least squares regression and several machine learning algorithms: random forest (RF), logistic regression, K-nearest neighbor (KNN), support vector machine (SVM), decision tree classifier, and Gaussian naive Bayes (NB) to classify normoglycemia from hyperglycemia. These classifier methods were used on the same dataset and evaluated by the area under the curve. The serum glucose levels were presented in the form of a binomial variable, where 0 indicated a glucose level within reference range and 1 a glucose level beyond the normal limit. For this reason, the methods of machine learning were applied as more specific methods of classification. RF and SVM have shown the best classification accuracy in predicting hyperglycemia, while decision tree and NB showed average accuracy.

AB - Most structural elements that represent parts of equipment and machines in the process industry are subjected to strength calculations. Structural materials and welded joints typically contain flaws and microcracks, from which cracks are initiated. Exploitation conditions can lead to the occurrence of cracks, even in cases when there are no flaws in the material, typically at locations with stress concentration. Penetration of two cylinders is the most commonly encountered form of geometric discontinuity of cylindrical surfaces which results in stress concentration. On a pressure vessel with two nozzles of different geometries, critical areas (i.e. stress concentration areas) are determined by experimental 3D Digital Image Correlation (DIC) method. Then, the numerical analysis of the equivalent 3D model is performed and the obtained results are comparable to experimental values. Since the fatigue cracks are expected in the high stress areas, in one of them - next to the nozzle in the numerical model - a crack has initiated. Then, crack growth is simulated using extended finite element method (XFEM). The aim of this paper is to show that it is possible to predict the crack growth direction and critical length of the crack which can occur in the pressure vessel, based on values of stress intensity factors (SIFs) evaluated in the numerical simulation.

E2.253 and according to the harmonized European standard EN 13445 that is subject to Pressure equipment directive PED 97/23. Also illustrated is a comparative analysis of calculation procedures for cylindrical shells and results for parts constructed from the same material and geometry. Presented are comparative calculations for two pressure vessel types, according to the domestic and European standard.

AB - The purpose of this paper is to show polymer waste as a raw material or otherwise usable material derived from a partial separation of communal waste. This paper describes the possibilities of polypropylene re-use through recycling with addition of glass powder, from the point of view of toughness caused by impact load. Standard test specimens, made of basic material - polypropylene, with addition of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25% and 30% of glass powder with granulation less than 0,5 mm, have been tested through six processing cycles. The measured values gave a possibility of forming patterns for changes of the observed material with different content of additives, through processing cycles, which can be helpful in further research and analysis.
