AB - BACKGROUND: There are recent studies using new industrial workers' anthropometric data in different countries, but for Serbia such data are not available. OBJECTIVE: This study is the first anthropometric study of Serbian metal industry workers in the country, whose labor force is increasingly employed both on local and international markets. The metal industry is one of Serbia's most important economic sectors. METHODS: To this end, we collected the basic static anthropometric dimensions of 122 industrial workers and used principal components analysis (PCA) to obtain multivariate anthropometric models. To confirm the results, the dimensions of an additional 50 workers were collected. The PCA methodology was also compared with the percentile method. RESULTS: Comparing both data samples, we found that 96% of the participants are within the tolerance ellipsoid. According to this study, multivariate modeling covers a larger extent of the intended population proportion compared to percentiles. CONCLUSIONS: The results of this research are useful for the designers of metal industry workstations. This information can be used in dimensioning the workplace, thus increasing job satisfaction, reducing the risk of injuries and fatalities, and consequently increasing productivity and safety.

AB - Export of products and services on EU market can bring great benefits, but also sets requirements to companies which are not easy to meet. Metal processing industry today is the main exporter in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIH). However value of import significantly exceeds value of the export. Therefore, there is a need to increase export to EU market. The aim of this paper is an empirical examination of the export possibilities to EU market, conducted on a sample of 24 metal complex companies in BIH. Obtained results indicate that adequate marketing strategy is a minor influential factor for export to EU market. Also the research shows that a significant number of companies is not familiar with new approach directives, as well as with procedures for conformity assessment. Most of the surveyed companies have an opinion that there is not enough number of adequate laboratories and institutions for export assistance. Also, the lack of capital for export financing in the companies as export barrier is significant. This topic should be further researched, as it is very important for companies' growth and development in BIH.

AB - Differences in total factor productivity of privatised and newly-founded private companies in Serbia are empirically estimated in this paper. On the panel data from a sample of 900 firms in three regions - Vojvodina, Central Serbia and Belgrade, it is found that majority foreign owned companies, as well as export-oriented and newly-founded businesses which did not undergo the process of ownership transformation recorded higher productivity than the average productivity in these regions. Regional inequality in companies' performance elasticity to foreign capital, exports and market concentration is also empirically proved.

AB - This study examines the impact of quality tools on financial performances using a sample of 119 Serbian industrial firms. Factor and reliability analysis are used to show that quality tools may be classified into three primary categories: quality tools for reviewing current conditions (for decision making), quality tools for analyzing current conditions (for problems solving) and quality tools for production planning and control (for improvement). The relationships between these 3 groups of quality tools and financial performances were tested using the stepwise regression analysis. It was concluded that the first group of quality tools (quality tools for reviewing current condition, e.g. for decision making) has significant impact on most of the dimensions of financial performances, while for the second and third group there is no statistical support. Influence of the first group of quality tools on sales revenue is statistically significant at a p lt 0.01 significance level while it's influence on company profit and total revenue per employee are statistically significant at p lt 0.05 significance level. The model ranged from 4% to 7%.

AB - An efficient way to collect, analyze and transfer the project information, as well as tracking and coordination of information exchange are crucial for successful project finalization in industrial companies. Project members and teams have to be able to communicate the status of on-going project or projects, and a proper software solution can greatly improve the management of information among them. An overview is given on the development of a new software solution for project management, mainly for use in industrial environment. The main concern is application in everyday engineering practice in various, mainly distributed companies. Having this in mind, special care has been devoted to development of appropriate tools for tracking, storing and analysis of the information about the project, and in time delivering to the right team members or other responsible persons. The proposed project management solution is Internet-based and uses LAMP/WAMP (Linux or Windows - Apache - MySQL - PHP) platform. Main advantages of this software are simple usage, quick implementation, easy system maintenance, short training and only basic computer skills required from operators.
