AB - Structural sandwich panels made of two thin steel facings that are bonded to a thick mineral wool core are often used as roofing material. This paper explores an application of numerical simulations in the investigation of structural behaviour of long span, continuous roof sandwich panels with profiled faces. Because of the required higher load-bearing capacity and strict deflection limitations, roof sandwich panels usually have one of the cover faces strongly profiled. A finite element analysis and an experimental study of a long span sandwich panel (with an inner strongly profiled and a flat outer face) in two-span configuration with transverse loading were conducted with a special attention given to the failure modes and bearing capacity prediction. The results obtained from the experiment confirmed the finite element analysis results.

AB - Fully automated electrically powered stacker cranes are the most common transportation devices used in automated high bay warehouses. When high throughputs are attained, the amount of the electric energy used is high. Taking this into account, together with relatively high rack configuration the energy saving by employing the regeneration of potential energy during the lowering of the stored goods seems to be a promising choice. In the paper real life data for deployment of four stacker cranes in high bay warehouse of bigger dairy is introduced and analysed. The cranes' working cycles are determined and their energy consumption is estimated. Finally, the probable energy and costs savings are determined taking into account the regenerated energy for crane operations and lower energy consumption for refrigeration purposes.

AB - Order picking is the process of retrieving items from the warehouse in response to a specific customer request. The design of an order picking system is often complicated and complex due to a large spectrum of external and internal factors, which influence the design choices. The most common objective of order picking systems during the design phase is to maximize the service level subject to reduce constraints such as labour, machines and capital. Therefore, the main objective of our paper is to present different policies for routing order pickers in one-block warehouse. Regarding the proposed routing policies, the effects on the order picking system performance will be presented.

AB - This paper presents simplified life cycle assessment (LCA) of a bucket
wheel excavator (BWE) belt conveyor. Conducted analysis should provide
insight in most of the issues concerning sustainability and environmental
properties of the belt conveyor. This paper also provides recommendations
for improvement of the belt conveyor based on previous studies and
sumarized results based on analysis of complete conveyor presented here.
It should also serve as a starting point for complete LCA of the belt
conveyor. The aim of complete LCA is to provide more detailed review of
environmental properties of the belt conveyor and possible improvements
of its energy efficiency, energy and cost savings. All of these analysis
should serve as a basis for establishing methodology for LCA studies of
any BWE or similar types of belt conveyors.

AB - Truck mounted hydraulic cranes are widely used in the timber and in the waste disposal industry. They have a specific design, where dead weight, size in the folded position and the position of the gripper in the folded position are of particularly importance. Functionality of the crane is therefore expressed with load handling capabilities and also with the functionality during road transportation of the payload, when the crane is in the folded position on the truck. For handling
of heavier loads, nowadays mainly two types of cranes are used - the K cranes and the Z cranes. The main advantage of the K cranes is higher load capacity in comparison with the Z cranes when cranes of approximately the same weight are compared. On the other hand the main advantage of the Z cranes is their capability of folding in position, transvers to truck length. In the paper the kinematics of the mechanisms of the characteristic size K and Z cranes are analysed and mutually compared. The main accent is on the discussion about their load capacity.

The electric motor (EM) is the only component of a belt conveyor that consumes electric energy. Simplified LCA was conducted with the Ecodesign Assistant (EA) and the Ecodesign PILOT (EP) software tools. The EM was recognized as D type product, which is "use intensive" product. Analysis with the EP considers suggested strategies for improvement of the product with the emphasis on the electric energy efficiency improvement.

AB - This paper deals with the simplified life cycle assessment (LCA) of a bucket wheel excavator (BWE) conveyor
belting. Belting is the most important component of a belt conveyor. Simplified LCA was conducted with the Ecodesign
Assistant (EA) and the Ecodesign PILOT (EP) software tools. Conveyor belting was recognised as ABE hybrid type
product, whose 'raw material', 'manufacture' and 'end of life' stages are significant in its life cycle. After the second
iteration, the conveyor belting was recognised as a 'raw material' and 'manufacture' intensive product. Further analysis
considered strategies for possible product improvement suggested by the EP tool.
This particular analysis of conveyor belting is part of a complete LCA of the BWE belt conveyor which should
provide a basis for establishment of the methodology for conducting LCA studies of a BWE or similar types of belt
conveyors.

AB - Conveyors are machines which typically operate continuously during long periods of time. Even a small increase in energy efficiency leads toward considerable energy savings and therefore improved sustainability. The energy is consumed to overcome dissipative effects and for possible lifting of transported goods. It can be saved only by reducing the dissipative effects. In the paper an example is introduced of two designs of the production machine chain conveyor. The effect of the changes of the design on the energy consumption is established. The dissipative effects are defined using analytical approach which is verified by means of measurements. Improved sustainability in the case of the second design is proven and discussed.

AB - The goal of this paper is to present and evaluate the latest trends in the cargo handling equipment (CHE) industry, aimed at mitigating the environmental impact of container terminal operations and contributing to the sustainability of ports. The most common machines for handling containers are described and dealt with separately, with a focus on electric CHE, usually referred to as 'zero emission' CHE. In a separate chapter, recommendations on methodologies suitable for investigation of the environmental footprint of CHE without on-site measuring are reviewed. The life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology as a tool for comparison of conventional and 'zero emission' technology is emphasised with examples. The conventional diesel rubber-tired gantry (RTG) crane and utility tractor rig (UTR) are compared with an electric RTG and UTR using an LCA approach.

AB - This paper presents the results of the study dedicated to the problem of the bucket wheel excavator two-wheel bogie (TWB) strength. Two variants of the TWB structure were analysed: the originally designed and the redesigned. Three calculation models for stress state identification were used for each of the variants. The first does not iclude the influence of the track wheel axle on the lateral loads distribution. The second model includes the mentioned influence while the third considers the track wheel axle as a structural part of the TWB. Validation of the FE models is done by FE simulation of the experiment carried out on an originally designed testing bench. The obtained results fully clarify the occurrence of cracks in the original TWB structure, as well as the considerable impact of the track wheel axles on the TWB structure stress state.

AB - This paper describes current status of modeling energy usage patterns for
PCs, provides insight in their energy consumption, energy costs and CO2
emission. It also provides possible solutions for improving energy
efficiency and energy savings. The study involved analysis of two different
mode settings (High Performance and Power Saver mode) of same
computer and gaming test case study. Usage patterns for both modes were
modeled based on Intel®'s EEP methodology. Workload was simulated
with StressMyPC freeware software. PC energy consumption while
executing workload was measured with Trotec® BX11 measuring device
during 15 days testing period, 8 hours a day. Computer and monitor were
separately observed.
