AB - Failure analysis of welded joint with multiple defects was performed taking into account the effect of all defects, not just a dominant one. Four cases of multiple defects in welded joint under the uniaxial tensile loading were investigated using extended Finite Element Method. Two-dimensional Finite Element Models were made according to the tensile specimens with initial crack located in a critical area of welded joint. For each multiple defects case, numerical simulation was performed with three initial crack depth. Engineering Critical Analysis was made using Failure Assessment Diagrams for each defect that was determined as critical for its welded joint case. Numerical simulation showed that the geometry of the most prominent one from a point of view of structural integrity. It was concluded that the vertical misalignment in combination with a secondary defect, had the most adverse effect which can lead to failure of welded structure.

AB - This paper deals with damage analysis of gear ring after manufacturing process, just before in-service period. Tooth gear ring segments were made of 40MnCrSi3V low-alloyed cast steel, which chemical composition and mechanical properties were given in table 1 and 2, respectively. Concerning parent material characteristics, in this case low-alloyed cast steel 40 MnCrSi3V, inspection and control of gear segments were necessary to be performed after manufacturing. Non-destructive testing method with magnet particles (MT) of fluorescent suspension of particle size 3 µm was performed for potential defects detection. Surface indications were observed on 8 out of 12 gear segments on these new parts, where the lengths of the cracks goes up to 110 mm. Some of the observed defects were shown in Fig. 1. Defects were located in segments main body the gear teeth, its main body etc. Taking into account aforementioned, observed defects on new gear ring segments were caused in manufacturing process i.e. by casting process and inadequate cooling rate.

AB - Tire models are widely used in research in the field of vehicle dynamics and noise, and especially in the simulation of their movement under the action of forces and moments. In general case, we distinguish theoretical models defined on the basis of tire construction and empirical or semi-empirical models based on experimental tests. In addition, a combination of these two types of models can also produce tire models. In practice, there is a very wide range of mathematical tire models defined using finite element analysis, by approximation of polynomials of different degrees, by approximation of magic formula, etc. In this paper, an attempt is made to calculate non-stationary lateral characteristics of tires on the basis of experimental stationary lateral characteristics, using two-parameter higher level polynomials. This polynomials define the tire lateral characteristics, and take into account their non-uniformity. More specifically, the lateral characteristics are approximated as a function of the dynamic change of the slip angle, radial load due to tire non-uniformity and time.

AB - Event Data Recorders (EDRs) have been used for the purpose of investigating traffic accidents for more than 20 years. Some countries have regulated their application by law, and they are a valid evidence during investigations and reconstructions. However, recording devices are used as a source of information, not as a database from which it is possible to reconstruct the event. Investigations using only recording devices are still not possible due to the some phenomena that exist, and due to the constructional features of the devices. Scientists from Japan and Poland tested the accuracy of the data from the devices and performed reconstructions of accidents. Both teams have established that it is possible to perform reconstruction only in simple situations, such as a straight-line crash of one vehicle into another. When there are several participants in a crash, or a crash was preceded by a maneuver, it is not possible to determine what really happened. Further development of data recording devices is necessary, in order to increase their efficiency during the reconstruction of traffic accidents.

AB - The paper presents developed 3Dnet-HET, a distributed hydrologic model coupled with the discrete channel network concept for groundwater circulation simulation in the karst environment. The hydrologic part is driven by the spatially distributed precipitation input and characteristic air temperatures to produce surface runoff and groundwater infiltration as a result. This represents input for the “horizontal water balance” module in which the groundwater flow is simulated by the system of discrete conduits representing known groundwater paths. In this study, the model is applied for simulation of the Dabarsko polje water balance in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the river Bregava catchment runoff. The model is firstly calibrated based on recorded water levels in the Dabarsko polje and flow discharges at the Bregava spring. Obtained model is utilized to analyze the Dabarsko polje water balance and possible effects of the planned hydropower plant “Dabar”. Results indicate a high flow variation and necessity of integrated real-time water management of the whole Trebišnjica system.
